Universal Orlando Resort has spent the last several years transforming Universal Studios Florida into something dramatically different from the park longtime fans remember. Classic attractions have disappeared, entire sections of the park have changed identities, and newer thrill rides now dominate much of the resort’s attention. But amid all those changes, one attraction has continued standing almost untouched: E.T. Adventure.
Now, even that ride appears to be seeing operational cutbacks.

According to Inside Universal on X, Universal Studios Florida delayed the opening of both E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land today until 11 a.m., despite the park officially opening an hour earlier.
“At least for today, E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land will open at 11am; an hour after the park’s official opening time. @UniversalORL”

For many guests, that might sound like a small operational adjustment. But for families visiting Universal Orlando, especially those with very young children, this is actually a pretty significant development.
E.T. Adventure Holds a Massive Role at Universal Studios Florida
E.T. Adventure is not just another attraction sitting quietly in the corner of the park. It currently holds a unique place in Universal Studios Florida history.
With Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show temporarily closed for a major reimagining, E.T. Adventure is now the only remaining Opening Day attraction operating at the park. That alone makes it important to longtime fans and park historians. The attraction has survived decades of park evolution while nearly everything around it has changed.
But beyond nostalgia, E.T. Adventure also serves a major operational purpose.
The attraction has one of the shortest height requirements in the park (34 inches), making it one of the few rides many smaller children can experience. Universal Studios Florida has increasingly shifted toward larger thrill attractions and motion-based experiences, which naturally limits options for families traveling with toddlers or younger kids.
That is where DreamWorks Land was supposed to help balance things out.
DreamWorks Land Being Delayed Makes the Situation Worse
DreamWorks Land was designed specifically to give younger children more to do inside Universal Studios Florida. The area includes family-friendly experiences, character interactions, play spaces, and attractions geared toward smaller guests.
But when both DreamWorks Land and E.T. Adventure stay closed for the first hour of park operations, it creates a noticeable issue for families entering the park early.
For guests with children under 34 inches tall, attraction options become extremely limited during that first hour.
That matters because many families strategically arrive at rope drop specifically to take advantage of lighter crowds, cooler temperatures, and shorter waits before the parks become packed later in the day. If the rides their children can actually experience are unavailable, that early park access suddenly becomes much less valuable.
And unlike thrill-seeking adults who may simply move on to another attraction, families with very small children often do not have the same flexibility.

Universal Has Reduced Attraction Hours Before
Over the years, guests have seen reduced operating hours for attractions during slower seasons, delayed openings for certain lands, and occasional staggered schedules designed to manage staffing and attendance levels.
Universal has especially leaned into operational flexibility following the opening of Epic Universe, as the company continues balancing staffing, attendance patterns, and guest flow across its growing resort footprint.
That being said, E.T. Adventure should not be one of those attractions with a reduction. This is not some low-capacity seasonal attraction tucked away in the back of the park. It is arguably one of the most iconic attractions Universal Orlando still operates. For many guests, riding E.T. Adventure has become a tradition passed down between generations.
Parents who rode the attraction as kids now bring their own children to experience it.
That emotional connection matters.
The Timing Could Frustrate Families
From a guest perspective, the frustration is understandable.
Theme park tickets continue getting more expensive every year. Many families only get one day inside Universal Studios Florida during their vacation. When guests pay premium prices, they generally expect attractions to operate during the full posted park hours unless weather or technical problems interfere.
Closing a major family attraction for the first operational hour changes that expectation.
And while one hour may not sound dramatic on paper, that first hour is often one of the most valuable parts of the day. Wait times remain lower, pathways are less crowded, and families try to accomplish as much as possible before the midday rush arrives.
Losing access to both E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land during that window removes a huge portion of what younger children can actually experience.
A Bigger Sign of Universal’s Direction?
Some fans are already wondering whether this could signal a broader shift in how Universal operates its older attractions moving forward.
Universal Orlando is clearly investing heavily in new technology, bigger franchises, and large-scale expansions. Epic Universe represents the company’s future, while Universal Studios Florida continues evolving around more modern intellectual properties.
At the same time, classic attractions have slowly become harder to find across the resort.
That is part of why E.T. Adventure has become so beloved in recent years. It represents a version of Universal Studios Florida that largely no longer exists. The ride still feels personal, practical, emotional, and surprisingly simple compared to many modern attractions.
Seeing it effectively moved to a partial-day schedule, even temporarily, immediately catches fans’ attention.
Especially because once operational reductions begin at theme parks, fans often start worrying about what could eventually come next.
For now, Universal has only adjusted the schedule “for today,” according to the report shared online. But the move still sparked major conversation among longtime Universal Orlando fans who view E.T. Adventure as one of the resort’s most important remaining classics.
