Kylo Ren fans, unite – we’re finally getting a sequel to The Last Jedi.
Released in 2017, The Last Jedi is one of the most divisive entries in the entire Star Wars franchise. Rian Johnson’s film split audiences over its treatment of legacy characters, particularly Luke Skywalker, whose disillusioned portrayal sparked years of backlash across the fandom.

The film also took major swings with Kylo Ren, pushing Adam Driver’s conflicted villain closer to center stage than ever before. His dynamic with Rey (Daisy Ridley) dominated online conversation after release, with fans still debating the pair’s connection, the Supreme Leader twist, and that throne room team-up nearly a decade later.
That divide only deepened with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), which faced backlash for walking back several of The Last Jedi’s biggest choices and rushing Kylo Ren’s redemption arc before killing Ben Solo off almost immediately.
Fans were even more furious when reports later surfaced about a scrapped pitch titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, which would reportedly have followed the character after the sequel trilogy, with Driver and Steven Soderbergh attached to the idea before it was dismissed by former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Chairman of Disney Entertainment Alan Bergman.

That’s what makes the latest Star Wars update so exciting.
Kylo Ren-Focused Project on the Way
Marvel is returning to Kylo Ren with a new limited comic series titled Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren.
The project will continue exploring Ben Solo’s final years as Supreme Leader, focusing on the increasingly unstable state of the First Order and his power struggle with General Hux and Allegiant General Pryde.

Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren serves as a follow-up to 2020’s Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, which chronicled Ben Solo’s transformation into Kylo Ren and his takeover of the Knights of Ren. It also makes good on a promise at the end of Legacy of Vader (“The Reign Ends. The Fall Begins. Kylo Ren… Will Return“).
Writer Charles Soule and artist Will Sliney are both returning for the new run. Marvel’s description teases a far more ruthless version of Kylo, with the character using fear and violence to force control over a fractured First Order after the events of The Last Jedi. The publisher also framed the comic as a major turning point not just for Kylo, but also for Hux and Pryde ahead of The Rise of Skywalker.

The full logline (via IGN) reads:
Kylo Ren returns from devastation, wielding total fury! As Generals Hux and Pryde tear the First Order apart with treacherous ambition, Kylo cuts through their schemes with merciless clarity. His wrath forges unity through fear and unleashes a Supreme Leader neither general can escape…nor survive disappointing. A pivotal turning point for Kylo, Hux and Pryde and essential reading for every Star Wars fan.

Soule said the character’s story always felt much larger than what audiences saw onscreen, adding that revisiting Ben Solo again “just feels right” after previously covering his rise and reign. Sliney echoed that sentiment, revealing the pair had quietly discussed a “Fall of Kylo Ren” project for years following the strong fan response to their original series.
Exactly what The Fall of Kylo Ren will add to the sequel trilogy timeline remains unclear, though the series appears set to explore several key gaps between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Launching with the first of five issues on August 12, 2026, the comic is also expected to delve deeper into Kylo Ren’s unstable reign over the First Order, his growing conflict with Hux and Pryde, and the final stages of Ben Solo’s transformation before the end of the Skywalker saga.
When Will Kylo Ren Return to the Big Screen?
Despite Ben Solo’s death in The Rise of Skywalker, speculation surrounding Adam Driver’s return to Star Wars has only grown louder in recent months. While fans previously assumed Driver was reluctant to return to the series, the news of The Hunt for Ben Solo renewed hopes that Ben Solo may in fact return to a galaxy far, far away.

Much of that discussion has centered on Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Rey movie. First announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023, this is set after the sequel trilogy and will reportedly follow Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. That premise alone has fueled years of speculation that Ben Solo could somehow factor into the story, particularly given the unresolved Force dyad connection established between the two characters in the sequel films.
While updates on the project have been few and far between since 2023, recent developments have some fans excited that it’s finally coming to fruition.
Ridley recently dropped out of an upcoming project, while a casting call by a known casting director for the franchise kickstarted a search for two young actors for a project filming later this month.

Most notably, John Boyega – who starred alongside Ridley as Stormtrooper-turned-Force-sensitive-ally Finn – recently confirmed that he’s talked to Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni about possibly returning to the franchise.
