Local authorities have issued a fire weather watch for the Central Florida area this week, including parts of Walt Disney World Resort. Here’s what families should know before heading to Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney Springs.
Fire Weather Watch Issued For Walt Disney World Resort Area

Beginning May 7 at 12:00 p.m., both Orange and Osceola counties are under a fire weather watch from the National Weather Service Melbourne. Wind and other weather conditions could cause fires to spread across parts of Central Florida, including the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs. One resident, @KittyWiddy, shared a screenshot of the mobile alert they received on X (formerly Twitter):
Imagine wanting to place AI data centers all over Florida. Every year we have drought conditions that lead to fire weather conditions. Just got this warning today.

People in the area should expect southwest-moving winds with sustained gusts of 15 mph, frequent gusts of 25 mph, and humidity between 25% and 35%. The low relative humidity is below average for Central Florida, and combined with the wind, can cause difficult-to-control fires that start and spread rapidly. Inclement weather is expected to last from the afternoon into the evening, ending around 8:00 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to increase over the next few days, making for an unseasonably hot early May in Central Florida. A peak is expected in the 90s on Thursday, nearing the all-time high record for that date. Thankfully, temperatures are expected to cool down a few degrees beginning on Friday and throughout the weekend.

The National Weather Service recommends that those in the affected counties (Orange, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, and Brevard) avoid outdoor burning, open flames, campfires, and outdoor grills. Vehicles should be kept off dry grass, and used cigarettes should be properly disposed of in fireproof receptacles.
What Will Change at Walt Disney World Resort?
Operations at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs are expected to continue normally. However, families should take precautions, as high temperatures could cause heat stroke or other serious medical conditions for dehydrated Walt Disney World Resort guests. Light clothing is highly recommended.

The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and other Disney Resort hotels may modify outdoor entertainment offerings and amenities, like bonfires and s’more-making, due to the fire weather watch on May 7. Guests should speak with the Front Desk about any questions regarding changes to Disney Resort offerings during their stay.
