Dollywood appears to have made quiet changes to its plans for 2026.
The Tennessee theme park has spent the last several years cementing itself as one of the most celebrated destinations in the industry. Between record-breaking attendance, expanding seasonal events, and award-winning attractions, Dollywood has increasingly positioned itself alongside Disney and Universal in conversations about Americaās top theme parks.

Some of its more recent additions have only accelerated that momentum. Big Bear Mountain debuted as the parkās longest roller coaster, while the Dolly Parton Experience transformed a large section of the property into a museum-style celebration of the country music iconās life and career. Dollywood has also continued dominating the Golden Ticket Awards, repeatedly taking home Best Guest Experience honors.
Now, however, attention has shifted toward a project that still has not opened.
NightFlight Expedition was announced as the largest single-ride investment in Dollywood history, with the park committing more than $50 million to the attraction. The indoor experience promises a hybrid dark ride, family coaster, and water adventure themed to the Smoky Mountains.

Dollywood Quietly Alters NightFlight Expedition Timeline
Back in September, Dollywood stated that NightFlight Expedition was āanticipated to open in Spring 2026.ā The attractionās official webpage similarly told guests the ride would ātake flight in Spring 2026.ā
That wording has now disappeared.
In recent days, references to āSpring 2026ā were quietly removed from Dollywoodās website. The attraction page now lists only ā2026,ā with no seasonal timeframe attached.

Theme park fans quickly noticed the change online. One social media post comparing screenshots from earlier this month alongside the updated version asked: āLooks like Dollywood has removed the word āSpringā from Nightflight Expeditionās page on their website. The screenshot on the left was from Friday, May 15 and on the right is from today. When do you think it will open?ā
The change has fueled growing speculation that the attraction may no longer meet its original target.
According to recent visitors, Dollywood employees operating the parkās train attraction have also adjusted their language when discussing the project. Guests claim operators are now encouraging visitors to return ālater this seasonā rather than ālater this spring.ā
That wording has sparked theories that Dollywood is now aiming for a summer or fall debut.

āSummer or early fall now seems like a more realistic timeframe for the ride completion,ā one Reddit user wrote. āTo add, the final pieces of track were put into place over the last two days, with no more remaining track [lying] around the building.ā
Another guest was even less optimistic.
āI was there ten days ago, and I thought there was no way [NightFlight] would be ready anytime soon,ā they wrote. āIād say 3 months would be fast. I wouldnāt be surprised if it opens in late fall.ā
Others have urged Dollywood to address the timeline directly.
āThey should save themselves stress and just say āsince this is the first of its kind, [there have] been setbacks and unexpected delays. We will try and vet this open by summer or fall,āā another fan posted.
Dollywood’s Largest Ride Investment Still Moving Forward
Despite the apparent delay, construction on NightFlight Expedition appears to be progressing rapidly.
Once completed, the attraction will place riders inside custom amphibious vehicles traveling through glowing caverns, mountain rapids, and nighttime scenes inspired by the Smokies. Dollywood previously described the ride as a first-of-its-kind experience for the park.

The project also represents a major milestone for Dollywood as it continues expanding beyond its traditional coaster lineup.
Dolly Parton herself previously praised the attraction during its announcement phase in 2025.
āIām just so proud that Dollywood has grown so much in its first 40 years that weāre able to add a ride like NightFlight Expedition,ā Parton said. āI have no doubt itās going to be a huge part of Dollywoodās next 40 years.ā
She added: āWeāre always trying to take the natural beauty of the Smokies and make it part of everything weāre doing in the park, and theyāve definitely been able to do it with this ride.ā
For now, Dollywood has not publicly announced a revised opening date.
The park remains in the middle of one of its busiest operating seasons, with large crowds continuing to visit Pigeon Forge for summer events, live entertainment, and major attractions like Wildwood Grove and Big Bear Mountain.
Dollywood has also continued rolling out operational changes across the resort in recent weeks. Its Splash Country water park recently transitioned to a fully cashless system, with guests now required to use cards or mobile payments throughout the property.
NightFlight Expedition may still arrive before the year ends.
