There are few things more deflating in a Disney vacation than walking up to an attraction you have been looking forward to, one that might have been the anchor of your entire day’s plan, only to find it surrounded by construction walls with a sign informing you that it is temporarily closed for refurbishment. Or arriving at a store you have been meaning to visit for years, only to discover it closed permanently last week. Disney parks around the world are constantly evolving, with attractions cycling through refurbishments, transportation systems going offline for maintenance, dining locations and retail spaces turning over, and occasional permanent closures that mark the end of something guests have loved for years. Keeping track of all of it is genuinely difficult, and the guests who do the work of checking closure announcements before they travel are consistently the ones who arrive with adjusted expectations and a plan rather than disappointment.

April 2026 brought a significant number of new closure announcements from Disney parks worldwide, covering everything from a permanent closure at an iconic overseas park to temporary transportation disruptions at Walt Disney World resorts to the end of a beloved Disney Springs retail location. Eight closures in total were announced this month, and knowing about all of them before your next visit is the difference between a day that unfolds as planned and one that requires real-time improvisation.

Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea Closing Permanently

The most significant closure announced in April is the permanent closing of Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea, which will shut its doors for the last time on September 14, 2026. Aquatopia is a trackless water ride that sends three-person watercraft spinning through an outdoor pool in unpredictable directions, and it has been an opening day attraction at Tokyo DisneySea since the park first welcomed guests. The Oriental Land Company announced the closure as part of its plans to reimagine the Port Discovery section of the park. For guests who have Tokyo DisneySea on their bucket list, September 14 is the date to plan around if riding Aquatopia before it disappears permanently is a priority.

Boat Dock at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Closer to home, the boat dock at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be closed for routine maintenance from May 11 through late June 2026. Guests staying at the Polynesian will not have access to boat transportation to Magic Kingdom during this window, so the Monorail will be carrying more of that traffic. Guests planning to use boat transportation between the resort and Magic Kingdom during that period should plan the Monorail instead.

Boat Dock at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

The docks and boats at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge are also offline, with a refurbishment closure running from April 13 through May 1, 2026. Boat transportation between the Magic Kingdom and the Wilderness Lodge is not available during this time, with Disney running buses as a replacement. For guests who love the boat ride as part of the resort experience, the bus is a functional alternative even if it lacks the scenic appeal of the water route.

Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course

Golfers with Disney World trips on the horizon should note that Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course will be closed for refurbishment from approximately May 4 through early fall. The closure covers an extensive renovation that includes newly reimagined contouring and elevations, upgraded irrigation systems, and improved drainage. Guests who want to golf during the closure still have access to three other golf courses on Disney property near Magic Kingdom at the Shades of Green hotel.

Kiddie Pool Deck at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

The Kiddie Pool Deck at Disney’s Pop Century Resort was briefly closed from April 13 through late April for routine maintenance. The closure was short-term and should be resolved by May, but families with young children staying at Pop Century should confirm the pool deck status before their arrival if their visit falls in the immediate near-term window.

Shore at Disney Springs Closing Permanently

Disney Springs is saying goodbye to another tenant with the permanent closure of Shore, a clothing store that closes on April 30, 2026. This follows the permanent closures of Sprinkles Cupcakes and Francesca’s at Disney Springs earlier in the year, continuing a pattern of retail turnover at the shopping district. Disney has not announced what will be replacing Shore in the space it currently occupies, so guests who have been planning to visit the store should act before or on April 30.

Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland

West Coast Disney visitors heading to Disneyland need to know that Pirates of the Caribbean is closing for refurbishment starting May 4, 2026. No reopening date has been announced yet, which means guests planning Disneyland trips in May and beyond should check the closure status as their travel dates approach. Pirates of the Caribbean is consistently one of the most visited attractions at Disneyland, and its absence from the lineup is the kind of closure that requires itinerary adjustments for most guests who consider it a must-do.

Vacation Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Vacation Fun, An Original Animated Short with Mickey and Minnie at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is temporarily closed starting April 29. Disney has indicated the attraction will reopen later this year, without providing a specific timeline, so this is a closure to monitor for updates as the summer progresses. Guests planning to include the animated short in their Hollywood Studios day should note that no return date has been confirmed yet.
