There’s a predictable rhythm to Disney vacation planning, especially for fans who keep a close eye on fall travel. Around this time of year, attention usually shifts toward Halloween season at Walt Disney World—and more importantly, the room-only resort discounts that can make those trips far more affordable.

This year, though, the conversation feels a little more complicated.

We’re in mid-April, and while Disney has already released its first wave of fall savings, many guests are still waiting for the next round—specifically the discounts that cover the heart of Halloween season.

What’s Already Been Released

Disney did roll out a meaningful room-only resort discount earlier this year with its “Save Up to 30% on Rooms in Late Summer and Early Fall” offer.

That deal includes:

  • Select Disney Resorts Collection hotels
  • Most arrivals from July 30 through October 3, 2026
  • Stronger savings tied to longer stays, particularly five nights or more

That timeline is important.

It means that all of August and September are currently covered under a room discount, if it’s available. So for guests planning early Halloween trips or aiming for lower crowds before October, there is still a path to savings.

However, availability is already tightening. Many of the most desirable resorts and room types under this promotion have been picked over, leaving fewer options for those just starting to plan.

Where the Real Gap Begins

The actual gap starts right after that window closes.

Beginning October 4, there are currently no room-only resort discounts available. That’s where things get tricky, because this stretch includes some of the most in-demand travel dates of the entire fall season.

Late October is when Halloween at Disney World is fully in full swing. Party nights are frequent, seasonal offerings are everywhere, and crowds tend to peak as families plan trips around school schedules and the holiday itself.

And right now, those dates don’t have a traditional room-only discount attached to them.

Not All Savings Are Equal

That said, it wouldn’t be accurate to say there are no savings options for late October.

Disney’s Free Dining offer does extend into that window, specifically targeting arrivals from October 19 through October 31, 2026. For many families, that’s a major deal—sometimes even more valuable than a percentage-off room discount when you factor in the total cost of meals across a multi-day stay.

But seasoned planners tend to separate these offers for a reason.

Free Dining is a package-based promotion, meaning it requires purchasing a full vacation bundle that includes tickets and a resort stay. Room-only discounts, on the other hand, provide more flexibility and can often be paired with other strategies or deals.

So while Free Dining absolutely counts as a meaningful way to save, it doesn’t fully replace the demand for late-October room-only resort discounts—which, at the moment, haven’t been released.

Is Disney Actually Behind Schedule?

At first glance, it might feel like Disney is dragging its feet.

But when you look at historical patterns, this timeline isn’t all that unusual.

Disney typically releases its first wave of fall room discounts in late winter or early spring—often covering late summer through early October. Then, a second wave that includes mid-October through the holiday season tends to arrive later.

For example, in 2025, the room-only discounts covering October 12 through December 25 weren’t released until July 10.

That puts us right on track.

So while it might feel like something is missing, the reality is that Disney is still operating within its normal window for these later-season deals.

Why It Still Feels Uncertain

Even if the timeline is technically normal, the current setup still creates a sense of uncertainty for guests.

October is one of the most popular times to visit Walt Disney World. It blends seasonal entertainment, manageable weather, and strong demand from both families and repeat visitors.

When those room-only discounts aren’t visible yet, it forces guests into a familiar dilemma:

  • Book now at full price and secure your resort
  • Or wait and hope a better deal appears later

That tension is part of what’s driving the conversation right now.

What Guests Should Do Right Now

If you’re planning a Halloween trip, the smartest approach may be a flexible one.

Booking early gives you the best chance at locking in your preferred resort and dates—especially as availability continues to shrink. And if Disney releases a new room-only discount later this summer, there’s often an opportunity to apply it to an existing reservation, as long as your room qualifies.

For those targeting late October specifically, patience could still pay off. Based on past trends, that second wave of discounts is likely still a few months away.

The Waiting Game for October Deals

Right now, Disney has checked the first box by releasing early fall room discounts. But the second piece—the one covering mid-to-late October—hasn’t arrived yet.

And while that may feel like a delay, it’s actually right in line with how Disney has handled these releases in recent years.

Still, for guests eager to plan the perfect Halloween trip, it means one thing above all else:

The real discounts for peak season are likely coming—but you’ll have to wait a little longer to see them.
