If you’ve ever stepped foot inside The Land Pavilion at EPCOT, you know the air just feels different there. It’s a mix of nostalgia, the faint scent of garden-fresh greens, and the distant, rhythmic sounds of Living with the Land boats gliding through the water. For decades, Sunshine Seasons has stood as the culinary heart of this pavilion, serving as a reliable sanctuary for weary travelers looking for something a bit more substantial—and perhaps a bit “greener”—than your standard theme park burger and fries.

However, change is always brewing in the World Nature neighborhood. As of March 24, 2026, a new operational test is underway that is fundamentally shifting how guests interact with their favorite sweet treats. Disney is currently reimagining the “grab-and-go” experience, moving away from open-air shelves and toward a more curated, service-oriented approach. It’s a move that balances the need for modern hygiene with the ever-present goal of making the guest experience as seamless as possible.

The End of the Self-Serve Era?

For years, the “Sweets” section of Sunshine Seasons was a high-traffic zone where guests could simply reach out and grab a pre-packaged Mickey-shaped treat or a slice of cake before heading to the registers. It was the epitome of “grab-and-go.” But if you visit today, you’ll notice a significant visual shift: the familiar “Sweet” shelves have been closed off with a metal shutter.

In their place, Disney has redirected guests to a dedicated ordering counter located to the left of the original shelving area. This isn’t just a minor shuffle of furniture; it’s a complete procedural pivot. Instead of self-serving, guests now interact directly with Cast Members to obtain their desserts. According to staff on the ground, this test is primarily aimed at improving hygiene and food safety. By keeping the pastries behind a counter and having them served by a Cast Member, the resort is effectively reducing the number of hands near the food, ensuring that every cinnamon roll and macaron is handled with the utmost care.

A More Personalized “Quick Service”

At first glance, adding a middleman to a “grab-and-go” process might seem like it would slow things down. However, the goal of this testing phase is actually the opposite. Disney is looking to see if this model can make the experience easier and more pleasant for the guest.

Think about the traditional grab-and-go struggle: squinting at labels, checking for the freshest-looking item at the back of the shelf, and juggling a tray while trying not to drop a plastic container. By moving to a counter-service model for sweets, the “work” is shifted to the Cast Member. You simply ask for what you want, and it’s handed to you.

This counter also doubles as the hub for milkshakes and other specialty beverages, effectively creating a “one-stop shop” for those looking for a sugar fix without needing to navigate the entire food court. It turns a frantic self-serve scramble into a more traditional, guided bakery experience.

The Stars of the Show

Despite the change in how you get your food, the what remains as delightful as ever. Sunshine Seasons has always been known for its “Garden of Good Eatin'” philosophy, utilizing fresh ingredients to craft their menus.

The current standout is undoubtedly the Mickey Cinnamon Roll, which is prominently featured at the new counter for $7.99. Unlike the cold, pre-wrapped versions you might find elsewhere, these are served warm—a massive upgrade that justifies the move to a service counter where temperature can be better managed.

Other treats currently being showcased in the new clear display cases include:

  • The iconic Mickey-shaped Pistachio Macaron.

  • An assortment of seasonal pastries and zesty snacks.

  • Specialty milkshakes that pair perfectly with a mid-afternoon Florida humidity break.

One interesting note for planners: while the Mickey Cinnamon Roll has a clear price tag and sign, many other pastries currently do not. This is a hallmark of a “test” phase—Disney is likely monitoring which items guests ask for most frequently and how they react to different price points before committing to permanent signage.

Why EPCOT, and Why Now?

EPCOT is the perfect laboratory for this kind of change. The park is currently defined by its “World Nature” and “World Celebration” themes, focusing on the balance between the natural world and human innovation. Testing a more hygienic, streamlined food service model fits perfectly into the ethos of The Land Pavilion.

Furthermore, Sunshine Seasons is a high-volume location. If this “counter-only” dessert model works here, it can work anywhere. Disney is reportedly watching this test closely to see if it should be rolled out to other grab-and-go locations across the Walt Disney World Resort, particularly those found in the various resort hotels.

For the guest, the benefits are twofold:

  1. Quality Control: Items like the Mickey Cinnamon Roll can be served at their ideal temperature rather than sitting on a shelf.

  2. Cleanliness: The desire for touch-free or low-touch food environments remains high. Knowing your dessert hasn’t been handled by other curious shoppers is a significant peace-of-mind upgrade.

Navigating the Change

If you’re planning a visit to The Land Pavilion soon, here’s how to handle the new flow:

  • Look Left: When you enter the dining area, head to the counter on the left rather than the old shelving units.

  • Check the Case: Use the new display cases to eye your treats before you reach the front of the line.

  • Talk to the Cast: Don’t be afraid to ask about pricing or ingredients, as the signage is currently limited to the “headliner” items.

A Greener, Cleaner Future

The Land Pavilion has always been about looking forward—whether it’s through sustainable farming or exploring the history of our planet. This shift at Sunshine Seasons is just another step in that evolution. By prioritizing guest health and streamlining the “quick” in Quick Service, EPCOT is proving that even a classic food court can learn new tricks.

Whether you’re there for the Oak-Grilled Salmon, the Power Salad, or just a warm Mickey Cinnamon Roll, the experience at Sunshine Seasons remains a highlight of any EPCOT day. As this test continues, it will be fascinating to see if the “grab-and-go” shelf becomes a thing of the past, replaced by a more human-centric service model.
