The Jurassic franchise roared back onto the big screen last summer with Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which proved that the series still has serious bite at the global box office.
The film pulled in $869.1 million worldwide, reinforcing the enduring appeal of dinosaurs running amok on islands despite nearly three decades of sequels.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rebirth marked a new chapter in the long-running saga while leaning into the darker, more experimental side of the franchise’s science-gone-wrong roots.

Jurassic World Rebirth 2
The film featured a new ensemble cast, including Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Jonathan Bailey (Wicked), and Mahershala Ali (The Green Book).
But while audiences showed up in force, critical reception was divided, with many reviewers praising the scale and creature design but questioning the story’s direction and tonal shifts.
Despite that response, rumors suggests Universal is already exploring a follow-up, with reports indicating Jurassic World 8, or Jurassic World Rebirth 2, is in early development.
Gareth Edwards is rumored to be in negotiations to return, along with Johansson, Bailey, and Ali. Story details, however, remain under wraps, leaving the ground fertile for speculation about where the sequel could take the franchise next.

Jurassic World 8 Could Be the Wildest Sequel
While we’ve already had fun with theories about Ice Age beasts, human-dino hybrids, and even dinosaurs in space, one serious possibility is a return to Île Saint-Hubert, the mysterious third island introduced in Rebirth that housed experimental and mutated dinosaur species.
Expanding that setting could allow the sequel to dig deeper into InGen’s hidden operations and undisclosed experiments.

Jurassic Might Not Be Done With Human Cloning
The next film might even revisit past storylines. One that that could resurface is human cloning, first introduced in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) through the character Maisie Lockwood, played by Isabella Sermon.
Her origins as a cloned human became a major plot point before being largely sidelined in Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
A sequel could revisit Maisie’s story and explore the wider ethical and scientific implications of human cloning within the Jurassic universe.

A Dead Character Might Return
That thread could even open the door for a surprising return.
John Hammond, portrayed by Richard Attenborough in Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), died off-screen between Jurassic Park III (2001) and Jurassic World (2015); however, the idea that the InGen CEO might have cloned himself no longer feels impossible in a franchise built on pushing genetic engineering to dangerous extremes.
Alternatively, a sequel could bring a character like Hammond back through flashbacks and archived video logs using digital effects, which would probably go down better with fans.
Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Mahershala Ali (The Green Book), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (Dead Boy Detectives), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).
