More than 30 years after Jurassic Park first thundered into theaters, the fates of several characters from Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster remain a topic of debate among fans.

While some deaths were shown with brutal clarity, others were left somewhat ambiguous. That uncertainty is now back in focus thanks to “Jurassic Park: Survival”, an upcoming first-person action-adventure video game set 24 hours after the events of the original film.

The game introduces a new protagonist, Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), a scientist stranded on Isla Nublar following the park’s collapse. With the timeline placing players so close to the original disaster, the door is theoretically open for familiar faces to appear—alive, dying, or resurrected. Here’s how each of the film’s deceased characters could make an appearance.

Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck)

Robert Muldoon’s death is one of the film’s most definitive. Cornered by Velociraptors, he’s distracted by one only to be attacked by a “clever girl” from the side, his head repeatedly clamped in the raptor’s jaws. There’s no chance he survived. That said, “Survival” could still incorporate Muldoon through pre-recorded video logs, security footage, or audio warnings.

His expertise with the raptors would make his insights valuable, even posthumously.

Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight)

Dennis Nedry’s fate is less clear-cut. While he’s attacked by a Dilophosaurus in his jeep (one of the smaller one’s “big brothers”), the camera pulls away before his death is shown. We see the vehicle rocking and the dinosaur’s silhouette lunging through the rain-streaked windshield, but it’s not a confirmed kill. If Nedry somehow escaped, he’d be fatally injured.

“Survival” could allow Joshi, or maybe another character — one who’s after the embryos — to meet Nedry in his final moments, wounded and delirious, before he succumbs to his injuries.

Donald Gennaro’s death leaves no room for doubt. Plucked from a toilet seat by the Tyrannosaurus rex and violently shaken in its jaws, his remains are later found scattered along the road by Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Muldoon (Bob Peck).

There’s simply no plausible scenario in which he survived, making his return in “Survival” highly unlikely in any form beyond environmental storytelling.

Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson)

Ray Arnold’s fate is famously ambiguous. The original 1993 film only shows his severed arm in the maintenance shed, implying he was killed by raptors while attempting to restore power. While survival is unlikely, the game could explore his final mission in greater detail.0

A potential future DLC (downloadable content) scenario allowing players to experience the character’s last moments would fit naturally within the game’s premise (and title).

Set so close to the original film, “Jurassic Park: Survival” has the opportunity to revisit unanswered questions—and perhaps finally close the book on one of the franchise’s most debated disappearances.

As unlikely as it may seem that any of these characters survived their encounters with dinosaurs, the game has confirmed the return of one of the prehistoric predators themselves, one whose fate was also ambiguous: the raptor that was locked in the the freezer by Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joe Mazzello) during the infamous kitchen scene is shown to have escaped at the end of the official trailer for the game (below).

When Is “Jurassic Park: Survival” Out?

There’s no release date for the game, but it will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the synopsis for the game reads.

“Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”
