A new chapter for Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil, is here.

Marvel’s Daredevil Journey So Far
Marvel’s Daredevil has had one of the most unusual journeys of any modern superhero series, evolving from a gritty Netflix favorite to a fully integrated Disney+ revival with Daredevil: Born Again. The original series, which ran from 2015 to 2018, established Matt Murdock’s world with a darker, street-level tone that set it apart from other Marvel projects.
Praised for its choreography, character depth, and grounded storytelling, it became a breakout success, making its cancellation in 2018 all the more surprising. Behind the scenes, Netflix reportedly made the final call, influenced by cost, licensing complications, and the shifting relationship with Disney as the studio prepared to launch its own streaming empire.

When the rights reverted in 2022, Marvel Studios began slowly reintroducing these characters into the MCU, with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock resurfacing in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin reappearing in Hawkeye, signaling something bigger was coming.
That “something” became Daredevil: Born Again, announced in 2022 as an ambitious Disney+ reboot and continuation hybrid. But the project quickly hit turbulence. The 2023 Writers’ Strike paused production, giving Marvel time to reevaluate the early footage, which ultimately led to a major creative overhaul.

The original writers and several directors were let go, the tone was reworked to more closely mirror the Netflix series, and the massive 18-episode plan was redesigned as two tighter nine-episode seasons.
A new pilot was created, new episodes were written, and Marvel leaned harder into continuity, bringing back key cast members, including Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively. Even early recasting decisions, such as replacing Vanessa Fisk, were reversed to maintain consistency with the beloved earlier series.
The result, which premiered in March 2025, positions Born Again as a true continuation rather than a clean slate. Set after the Netflix finale, the story follows a retired Matt Murdock pulled back into conflict as Wilson Fisk—now rising through New York’s political ranks—tightens his grip on the city.

The revival preserves the mature crime-drama sensibilities that defined the original while firmly rooting Daredevil within the modern MCU. Despite its rocky development, the show’s renewed focus, returning cast, and commitment to the series’ legacy have made it one of Marvel’s most anticipated and celebrated streaming returns.
Marvel Reboots the “Daredevil” Series Again
As production wraps up for the debut of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (which comes next year), Marvel Comics is bringing comic book lovers a new take on the Man Without Fear–one that is said to “redefine” the character.
“Following in the footsteps of legendary creative teams from the title’s esteemed history, [Stephanie Phillips] and [Lee Garbett] set out to redefine Daredevil for a new age!” Marvel writes in its announcement. “A fresh start that’s perfect for newcomers and longtime fans alike, the new run sees Matt Murdock confront unprecedented challenges—both in his personal life as Matt Murdock and on the dangerous streets of Hell’s Kitchen as Daredevil.”

Interestingly, the new reboot will see Matt Murdock return to the world of education. “Matt will go back to school, taking on a new role as a law professor just as a new super villain named Omen emerges with a mysterious vendetta against his super hero alter ego,” Marvel added.
On teaming up with Lee Garbett, writer Stephanie Phillips said: “I’m taking on one of my favorite characters with one of my favorite artists, and together we’re exploring Daredevil’s noir sensibilities […] Lee Garbett brings so much style and emotion to every page, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner to bring this version of Daredevil to life.”

Dubbed as “an all-new era of Daredevil” and a version of the Man Without Fear that has “never been seen before,” Phillips and Garbett’s “Daredevil #1” hits shelves on March 18, 2026. The second season of Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ just under two weeks earlier, on March 4, 2026. In September 2025, Disney and Marvel Studios confirmed a third season is in development.
