Walt Disney World is home to a number of out-of-this-world experiences. From wild west-themed roller coasters like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to state-of-the-art dark rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disney continues to innovate when it comes to its theme parks, especially Disney World.

In recent years, the resort has welcomed some beefy additions, namely Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run, though there’s even more in the pipeline outside of just roller coasters. In the coming years, Disney plans to open several new rides, attractions, and lands.

However, no matter what Disney announces, nothing will compare to the company’s ill-fated Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Over the last few months, Disney has removed reminders of its defunct Star Wars hotel experiment from its resort.

The only thing that remained were old road signs, which have now all been erased.

According to Blog Mickey, the final roadway sign for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has been removed. This sign was previously at the exit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios parking lot. Earlier this year, Disney removed one of the major signs for the experience.

It was clear from the beginning that Disney would have a hard time marketing its Galactic Starcruiser, as it only appealed to a fraction of its massive fanbase. Launched in 2022, the two-night, three-day experience was more similar to a cruise ship than traditional hotel, allowing guests to explore the fictional Halcyon Starcruiser ship at their leisure.

Guests would have scheduled activities and a set dinnertime, but the rest was up to them. Travelers were encouraged to create their own storyline and live out their own Star Wars adventures. While the experience itself was divisive, the cost of Disney’s Starcruiser was what likely pushed people away. Two guests could expect to pay at least $4,000 for the short trip.

After struggling to keep rooms booked, Disney eventually discounted its Starcruiser experience. However, Disney seemingly bit off more than it could chew, announcing that the highly-themed hotel would permanently close in 2023.

In the years since, the Starcruiser building has sat empty and unused, at least for guests, though Disney doesn’t intend on leaving it vacant. Disney Parks & Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro eventually confirmed that Disney planned to transform the Starcruiser into new work areas for Walt Disney Imagineering.
