The future of a short-lived Star Wars attraction at Walt Disney World Resort has been sealed.
New permit filings confirm that Disney won’t just be letting the space sit empty; it’s tearing it apart and transforming it into something entirely different. That means the unique connection between the Galactic Starcruiser and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will never be revived.

No Path Back to the Starcruiser Experience
When the Starcruiser closed in 2023, some fans hoped Disney might repurpose or reopen it as a more accessible experience. After all, the original concept — a live-action, role-playing adventure woven into a stay at a luxury hotel — was one of the boldest experiments Disney had ever undertaken. But the steep price point limited its audience, and ultimately, the ambitious project wasn’t sustainable.
This new permit effectively closes the door on any kind of comeback. Once the themed interiors are stripped and replaced with Imagineering workspaces, the Galactic Starcruiser won’t exist in any recognizable form. Since the experience was designed to directly tie into Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — with guests boarding shuttles to Batuu as part of their “voyage” — its permanent closure means those story elements will never return.

A New Chapter for the Building
Disney has filed a new permit for the Galactic Starcruiser site describing “demolition and reconfiguration of existing space for use as an office.” That language alone says a lot. The highly immersive Star Wars-themed hotel — which once transported guests on a two-night voyage to Batuu — is being gutted and reimagined as office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.
This isn’t a small remodel either. The documentation notes changes to interior partitions, finishes, toilet rooms, and emergency systems, with only “few exceptions for historic value.” In other words, very little of the original Star Wars theming is expected to survive. The impressive atrium, the themed cabins, and the exclusive bridge experience are all slated to disappear under this new plan.
Imagineering Moves In
According to internal reports, Imagineers are expected to take over the building to use as a project office space. The move is expected to support future park expansions and creative development initiatives. In a way, the building will still serve Disney’s storytelling ambitions — just not for guests.
The decision also confirms what many fans had already suspected: the Starcruiser wasn’t just on pause; it was gone for good. The themed hotel that once represented the height of immersive Disney storytelling will soon just be another office building behind the parks.

A Symbol of What Could Have Been
Back in 2023, park leadership gave fans hope that “something would happen” with the Starcruiser. But instead of a second act, Disney has chosen demolition and reconfiguration. For fans who loved the experience — or dreamed of trying it one day — this marks a definitive end.
The Starcruiser was ambitious, creative, and groundbreaking. But now, its story ends not with a revival, but with construction crews and workstations. And because the hotel’s design was inseparably tied to Galaxy’s Edge, this also means there’s no realistic path for the original Star Wars voyage experience to return in any form.
Disney has officially moved on. The Galactic Starcruiser is no more.
