Jurassic World Rebirth might have been billed by Universal as the start of “a new Jurassic era” on the big screen — and that will most likely be the case, considering it grossed just shy of $900 million worldwide this summer — where one era begins, another one ends.
On the small screen, another Jurassic sequel is underway. Chaos Theory Season 4 recently unveiled its first teaser, and, just as we suspected after that Season 3 finale, the “Nublar Six” are heading to Biosyn Valley, a key location from the 2022 film, Jurassic World Dominion.
Chaos Theory Suddenly Feels Canon
Chaos Theory represents an interesting corner of the Jurassic franchise. For the most part, it’s been viewed as secondary canon, with many fans seeing it as optional additional content. This definitely appeared to be the case with the original animated Netflix series, Camp Cretaceous, which, at times, felt more tailored towards those “younger versions of adults”.
Chaos Theory, on the other hand, is darker, more mature, and supplements the film side of things (Dominion) far more effectively than its five-season predecessor ever did with 2015’s Jurassic World and 2018’s Fallen Kingdom.
In fact, Chaos Theory Season 3 — the latter half — weaves itself in and out of Dominion in the same way Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) weaves his way in and out of the alleyways and city streets of Malta when he’s being chased by bullet-fast Atrociraptors in the 2022 film.

Chaos Theory Is Better Than Jurassic World Rebirth
The animated side of Jurassic overall has been quite the journey. We’ve watched Darius, Kenji, Sammy, Brooklynn, Ben, and Yaz grow into young adults against the backdrop of a radically changing world; one now inhabited by dinosaurs.
This is another way Chaos Theory has earned the trust of fans — it hasn’t swept the concept of dinosaurs living with humans under the rug like Rebirth did. That film might have grossed $866.4 million at the global box office, but it’s easily the worst film in the franchise.

Chaos Theory Is Coming to an End
Now, the series is now coming to an end. Whether or not it will evolve into something else down the line in the same way Camp Cretaceous became Chaos Theory remains to be seen. But at present, there are currently no plans for a new series on Netflix. So here’s hoping that Season 4 delivers where Rebirth — and, let’s be honest, Dominion, too — failed spectacularly.
Fortunately, there’s more Jurassic on the way. If you’re impressed with how Chaos Theory commits to telling stories in a world filled with dinosaurs, you’ll find plenty of enjoyment in the upcoming video game sequel “Jurassic World Evolution 3”, the next entry in the popular park management simulation series (it hits shelves in October). Or, if you want to go back to the Park era, the first-person action-adventure “Jurassic Park: Survival” is coming soon.
Chaos Theory stars Paul-Mikél Williams as Darius Bowman, Darren Barnet as Kenji Kon, Sean Giambrone as Ben Pincus, Kausar Mohammed as Yasmina “Yaz” Fadoula, Raini Rodriguez as Sammy Gutierrez, and Kiersten Kelly as Brooklynn.
The final season premieres on Netflix on November 20.
