At the end of July, Marvel Studios officially launched Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025). Directed by Matt Shakman and starring Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/ Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing), anticipation was high for the First Family’s arrival in the MCU.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps began with an impressive box office start, marking the studio’s first $100 million domestic debut of 2025. The film opened to approximately $118 million in the U.S., with a global weekend haul landing around $218 million. That strong opening signaled plenty of initial excitement for Marvel’s rebooted take on the iconic superhero team.

However, the second weekend told a different story with audiences seemingly having fallen out with Marvel’s latest once again. The film experienced a steep 66% drop domestically, earning just under $40 million. At the time of publication, its worldwide total per Box Office Mojo currently sits at $385.1 million.

The robust opening underscores Marvel’s ability to launch major properties with event-level hype, but the steep second-week decline highlights an ongoing challenge—retaining audiences beyond opening weekend. Whether the drop reflects broader superhero fatigue or simply the front-loaded nature of modern blockbusters will be a storyline worth watching as The Fantastic Four: First Steps continues its theatrical run.

Marvel Update: Pedro Pascal Is Done With Avengers: Doomsday

According to a report from Deadline, which details the possibility of Pascal joining Star Wars: Andor creator Tony Gilroy’s new project Behemoth!, the actor has now wrapped filming his scenes in Avengers: Doomsday.

Fantastic Four kicked off the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Pascal recently wrapped production on the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which will premiere in 2026,” Deadline wrote. “Also in 2026, Pedro will reprise his role as Din Djarin in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.”

Avengers: Doomsday began principal photography in April 2025, so it’s not unusual that some of the ever-growing ensemble have already wrapped their scenes. That said, it’s interesting that Pascal has reportedly finished considering some believed the Reed Richards star to headline the next group of Avengers.

Who will form the new Avengers squad is still a big question mark. For Earth-616, the main Sacred Timeline, at least two groups are vying for the position. In both of 2025’s earlier MCU movies, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, alliances were formed, setting up conflict for future movies in Phase Six and beyond.

However, whoever is part of the Avengers lineup in Doomsday and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars may not be an Avenger for very long. Just last month, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the billion-dollar Disney franchise is heading toward a reset of sorts.

The potential reset makes sense, considering the arrival of Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the Multiverse-altering upcoming Secret Wars. From there, Feige confirmed that the X-Men will be the next chapter for the ever-expanding MCU.

When it comes to Pedro Pascal, as Deadline noted, the actor will continue being a big name for The Walt Disney Company with his upcoming appearance as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026). The Jon Favreau movie will seemingly replace the fourth season of The Mandalorian and officially mark the Star Wars franchise’s big screen return almost seven years after J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX–The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

While his popularity remains strong, some are starting to feel like there is an oversaturation of the actor in Hollywood. From The Last of Us to The Fantastic Four, Eddington and The Materialists, the Game of Thrones star is occupying many screens and appearing in multiple press campaigns.

Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom, and will feature many other characters from across the Marvel Studios and former 20th Century Studios franchise spectrum.
