Casting for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series is in full swing.
So far, over 20 actors have been named, including John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter).
However, the series is yet to reveal the identity of He Who Shall Not Be Named — the dark wizard known as Lord Voldemort. And, apparently, we won’t be finding out anytime soon.
Recently, a source told Rednian Intelligence that an actor has reportedly already been cast as Lord Voldemort, but that their identity will be kept a secret until the show airs.

So, as there’s no release date for the HBO series, it could be some time before fans learn who has replaced Ralph Fiennes as Tom Riddle. But for every dark mark, there’s a silver lining.
Another upcoming Harry Potter series — an audiobook series — has revealed who’s playing its version of Lord Voldemort, and it’s none other than Matthew Macfadyen.
Though best known for starring in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley, British actor Macfadyen more recently appeared as the villain Mr. Paradox in the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Now, he’s slipping into the robes of the most dangerous dark wizard of all time — at least in front of the microphone.

Per the new teaser shared by Audible, the cast also includes Hugh Laurie (House) as Albus Dumbledore, Riz Ahmed (The Night Of) as Severus Snape, and Michelle Gomez (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Minerva McGonagall.
Frankie Treadaway will play Harry Potter, Max Lester will voice Ron Weasley, and, surprisingly, Arabella Stanton (the West End’s Matilda) will step in as Hermione Granger before she brings the role to life in the HBO series.
However, Treadway, Lester, and Stanton will only play Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the first three audiobooks — Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis will take on the roles starting with Goblet of Fire.
Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife) is the narrator. The production has over 200 speaking roles.

Rowling’s seven classic novels into immersive productions in Dolby Atmos, complete with an all-star voice cast, original music and real-world sound effects. It marks the first major update to the Harry Potter audiobook library in more than 25 years.”
“I’m honored to have been trusted with the keys to Albus Dumbledore, and thrilled to be able to take him around the track of this beautiful incarnation by Pottermore and Audible,” Hugh Laurie said of being cast as the new Hogwarts headmaster.
He added: “I’m also deeply conscious of previous drivers Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Jude Law, and the iconic narrations by Jim Dale and my colleague, Sir Stephen Fry.”
The first adaptation in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, will be released on November 4 on Audible. Click here to find out the release dates for each subsequent book.
