In 1923, a young man named Walt Disney packed up all of his worldly possessions into a cardboard suitcase and boarded a train to California. He only had $40 in his pocket, but he was determined to make his mark on the world. Four years later, Walt would have his first big break when he created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. What made Oswald truly remarkable, and broke the mold, was that he was the first cartoon character that had a personality.
Sadly, just one year after creating Oswald, Walt Disney lost the rights to the lucky rabbit when his distributor made a deal with Universal and also took half of Walt’s animators with him. Thankfully, it didn’t all turn out bad, as the loss of Oswald led Walt to create his next original character, one that would change everything—Mickey Mouse.

In 2006, Disney CEO Bob Iger negotiated a deal with NBCUniversal and brought Oswald back to Disney, where he belonged, in exchange for sportscaster Al Michaels. And back in March, nearly 20 years after his return, Disney announced that Oswald was getting his very own series.
The Mandalorian and live-action Lion King (2019) director, Jon Favreau, is the creative mind behind the new venture, making a new animation/live-action hybrid series that is being created for Disney+. Favreau is serving as the writer, director, and producer, so audiences can be sure that it will bring something unique and incredible to the table.
We do not yet know when the series will premiere on Disney+, but we can now tell you that filming has already begun!

Over the weekend, multiple guests visiting Disneyland Resort were thrilled to see Favreau and a filming crew setting up shop inside The Happiest Place on Earth. However, he wasn’t the only celebrity who was spotted for the series, which has been given the Disney codename “Ink and Paint.”
No real casting information about the series has been announced for the series, but based on multiple photos, Kathryn Hahn will have a starring role! Hahn is best known to Disney fans for her role as Agatha Harkness in Marvel’s Disney+ series WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
Photos of the filming were shared on Reddit, confirming Hahn’s role.

More photos and videos were shared of filming happening outside the entrance to Disneyland, as well as inside the park. Favreau can be seen directing two young girls next to the Disneyland Fire Department and City Hall, and in front of the iconic train station. Others also spotted Favreau filming outside the legendary Enchanted Tiki Room.
So cool seeing Jon Favreau at Disneyland today! He is working on “Ink and Paint” (not sure if that is the real name or a codename), a new Disney+ series featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! Can’t wait to see the finished product. 😁
