It hurts my millennial brain to think about it, but this year, the 1990 film Home Alone turns 35! The iconic Christmas movie starred Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy whose family accidentally leaves him home alone when they travel to Paris for the holidays. Kevin has always been the black sheep of his family, and at first, he loves having the house all to himself.
However, things take a turn when Kevin discovers that two burglars — the Wet Bandits (played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) — are targeting his home. He must work quickly to create a plan and protect himself and his house. Meanwhile, Kevin’s mother (Catherine O’Hara) is working tirelessly to get back to her young son.

Home Alone was a major box office hit, and two years later, the McCallisters were back, and this time, Kevin accidentally boards a plane to New York while the rest of his family travels to Florida. Kevin is overwhelmed by the large city, but quickly makes himself at home at the famed Plaza Hotel. Little does he know, Marv and Harry, AKA the Wet Bandits, have escaped to the Big Apple. Chaos and hilarity ensue as the pair learn that they are still no match for the quick-thinking Kevin.
In total, there are six films in the Home Alone franchise, but Macaulay Culkin only appeared in the first two. And while Home Alone 2 was also a huge hit, it is the first film that really holds a special place in the hearts of many people.
