This marks yet another major transformation for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which has already seen significant closures in preparation for the park’s next evolution. While change often brings excitement, longtime Disney fans know that saying goodbye to classic attractions is never easy.
Saying Goodbye to It’s Tough to Be a Bug!

For more than 25 years, It’s Tough to Be a Bug! has given guests a whimsical yet slightly unsettling glimpse into the world of insects. The attraction, inspired by Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, invited visitors into the underground world of Flik and his bug friends, showcasing their talents and the benefits they bring to the ecosystem.
However, the show took a dramatic turn when Hopper, the film’s villainous grasshopper, arrived on the scene, leading to an intense and sometimes terrifying sequence that left younger guests clinging to their parents.
The show’s 4D effects, including air blasts, water sprays, and even the eerie feeling of bugs crawling under seats, made It’s Tough to Be a Bug! one of the most immersive theater experiences at Walt Disney World. But despite its nostalgic charm, its days are now numbered as Disney shifts focus to more modern franchises and storytelling styles.
Replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug! will be Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, a brand-new 4D show based on Disney’s hit animated film Zootopia. This new experience will introduce guests to Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and the citizens of Zootopia, bringing a fresh take on the Animal Kingdom’s commitment to celebrating wildlife.
The End of DinoLand, U.S.A. and the Rise of Tropical Americas

It’s Tough to Be a Bug! is just the latest in a string of closures reshaping Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Earlier this year, Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama permanently closed its gates, marking the beginning of the end for DinoLand, U.S.A. as a whole.
Disney announced last fall that the entire DinoLand area will be phased out and replaced by a brand-new Tropical Americas land, a massive project set to completely transform the back section of the park. While this change signals an exciting new chapter for Animal Kingdom, it also means that Dinosaur, one of the park’s signature thrill rides, will be reimagined as an Indiana Jones attraction.
What’s Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom?

The Tropical Americas land, inspired by the biodiversity of northern South America and Central America, will bring several new experiences to the park:
- Encanto Attraction – A brand-new ride featuring Mirabel, Bruno, and the Madrigal family, bringing the magic of Casita to life.
- Indiana Jones Reimagining – Dinosaur will be transformed into an Indiana Jones-themed adventure, similar to the popular attraction at Disneyland Park in California.
- New Carousel – A family-friendly carousel will be built where The Boneyard currently stands, adding another interactive experience for younger guests.
- Massive Dining Overhaul – Restaurantosaurus will be rethemed into a large hacienda-style quick-service location called Esperanza Market, set to be one of the largest dining locations at Walt Disney World.
Tropical Americas will span 11 acres, making it one of the largest expansions Animal Kingdom has seen since the opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar in 2017. Disney has confirmed that the fictional town anchoring the new land will be called Pueblo Esperanza, a lush, immersive environment that celebrates the region’s rich culture and vibrant wildlife.
A Park in Transition
With It’s Tough to Be a Bug! closing in just a matter of weeks, it’s clear that Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing its most dramatic transformation in years. While these changes promise new adventures and immersive storytelling, longtime fans may find it difficult to say goodbye to the park they’ve known and loved.
Between the closure of DinoLand, the reimagining of classic attractions, and the introduction of a completely new land, the park will feel dramatically different by the time Tropical Americas debuts in 2027. While the future is bright, there’s still plenty of time to appreciate what’s left of the past—including one final visit to It’s Tough to Be a Bug! before the doors close forever.
For now, guests have until March 17, 2025, to experience one last adventure with Flik, Hopper, and the rest of the A Bug’s Life crew before Disney turns the page to its next chapter.
