Credit: Jess Colopy, Inside the MagicWalt Disney World Resort has taken action after holes were spotted in one of the oversized character statues at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. The Value Resort hotel is home to different depictions of Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Tramp, Mowgli, and Baloo.
On Tuesday, Inside the Magic reported on guest dissatisfaction at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Disney Park guests said their vacation was negatively impacted by broken elevators, low-quality food, a half-open gift shop, and “disintegrating” character statues.
One of those character statues was Baloo, a giant bear in the 60s section of the Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Although his pal Mowgli looked fine, Baloo was missing chunks of paint.
However, it appears that Baloo’s unusual appearance is actually evidence that Walt Disney World Resort is repairing the statue. Redditor u/sandy_shark903 recently shared some photos of the Disney character statue in mid-repair. In the photos, it appears that crews have already applied spackle or similar material to smooth out Baloo before adding a new coat of paint.

Some Disney Parks fans were skeptical that Disney cast members could work on Baloo without obvious scaffolding.
“Where is all the scaffolding?” u/ScarHand69 asked. “Are they really putting it up and taking it down every night? Or maybe they use a cherry-picker and just park it out-of-sight during the day?”
However, a recent Walt Disney World Resort guest confirmed they spotted Disney cast members using a portable lift to work on the character statue.
“They use a cherry picker,” u/MetalAlbatross replied. “I stayed in that building over New Year’s and they were working on him.”
“They were repairing them the week of Christmas, haven’t painted yet,” u/caracs added.
Baloo and Mowgli will be back to singing about the “Bear Necessities” in no time!
