More than three years after Avengers Campus officially opened at Disney California Adventure Park, Disneyland Resort has finally broken ground on a promised expansion to the theme park. Construction began with the closure of the Timon parking lot on Sunday, January 12.
Avengers Campus opened at Disney California Adventure Park on June 4, 2021, replacing A Bug’s Land. The land includes multiple entertainment offerings, unique dining locations, gift shops, and two attractions: WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, the rethemed Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Disneyland Resort says that the current construction project will double the size of the Avengers Campus, adding the Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab attractions to the theme park land.
Avengers Infinity Defense will invite guests onboard a world-jumping spaceship, where they’ll travel to worlds and realities throughout the Marvel Multiverse. The attraction will combine large-scale props and environments with immersive digital effects to transport riders into their favorite superhuman stories.

Stark Flight Lab is a flight simulator that will allow guests to fly like Iron Man using an auto factory-style robotic arm. Robert Downey Jr. returned to Tony Stark’s workshop to reprise his role for both Stark Flight Lab and Avengers Infinity Defense attractions. At D23 Expo 2024, Walt Disney Imagineering shared this photo of Downey Jr. and Disney CEO Bob Iger testing the Stark Flight Lab ride:

The new Avengers Campus area will also take over the backstage Red Car Trolley Barn, necessitating the end of Disney California Adventure Park’s beloved trolley service. The Red Car Trolley will close on February 8, but one stationary trolley will live as a photo-op on Buena Vista Street.
Disneyland Resort has yet to announce an opening date for the new Avengers Campus attractions, but it has submitted permits to the city of Anaheim for their construction. The public documents detail necessary utility services, temporary trailers, and the parking lots that the project would impact.
