The Walt Disney World Resort is full of iconic rides, some of which are perhaps the most legendary theme park attractions of all time. Classic dark rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean have entertained guests for decades, with newer additions like TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind providing more thrills for a new generation of guests.
Disney World is often considered a family-friendly theme park, and rightfully so. However, it features quite a number of more intense attractions, and one of the resort’s most popular thrill rides is getting a big makeover.

Test Track, the high-speed car-testing adventure in EPCOT, is currently closed for its big reimagining. Disney first teased Test Track’s overhaul at last year’s D23 event, sharing more details during the company’s D23 event this August.
In December 2024, Disney confirmed Test Track will be opening in late 2025, a vague but still exciting update for fans of this popular Disney World thrill ride.
According to Disney, this new version of Test Track will offer guests a thrilling adventure that celebrates over a century of transportation advancements. The ride will explore the past, present, and future of transportation.
The project is being led by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with General Motors.

Test Track has a long and somewhat controversial history at the Walt Disney World Resort. The ride replaced one of EPCOT’s most iconic attractions, World of Motion, officially opening to guests in 1999. The original version of Test Track was very “of its era,” featuring a corny but charming pre-show experience and a very in-your-face queue.
Test Track was the first true thrill ride for EPCOT, a theme park that had only featured slow-moving dark rides and boat tours until that year.
However, Disney was seemingly unhappy with the original version of Test Track and announced that the ride would be getting a digital makeover. Test Track closed and reopened in 2012 with the same name, though fans referred to this iteration as “Test Track 2.0.”
Now featuring a shinier aesthetic, complete with lights and sounds straight out of Disney’s Tron: Legacy (2010), Test Track was propelled into the future, though this makeover did not go over all that smoothly among guests. While the core ride remained just as fun as the original version, Test Track 2.0 simply felt like a rushed, somewhat cheap retheme.
The ride remained popular at the park for years, but Test Track 2.0 seemed somewhat lost when it came to its theming, especially after the completion of EPCOT’s transformation earlier in 2024.
This third and presumably final version of Test Track marks a turning point for both EPCOT and the Walt Disney World Resort as a whole, with many more projects taking shape in the coming years.
