According to BlogMickey, land clearing is underway near Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park. Disney is now working to expand and reroute Floridian Way.

This land clearing is part of a project expected to take multiple years and will include the addition of roundabouts at other Disney World resort properties, such as the previously mentioned Grand Floridian and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

The land is currently being cleared to make way for construction yards needed for Magic Kingdom’s upcoming Cars expansion. These expansions still require approval from the state, though Disney’s roadway project has been in the works for many years.

Multiple areas are being cleared, and roadways may be rerouted for an upcoming and announced expansion to the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney is currently in the midst of reworking the entrance to its Polynesian Village Resort, something that has also affected roadways.

It’s speculated that this land clearing is also making way for a new, announced hotel to be built on Walt Disney World property soon.

Magic Kingdom is certainly on the cusp of one of the most exciting and transformational chapters in the theme park’s history. The Walt Disney Company unveiled its plans earlier this year to transform and reshape large chunks of the theme park.

Since opening back in 1971, Magic Kindom has remained one of, if not the world’s leading theme park destinations, featuring an abundance of classic dark rides, thrilling attractions, and incredible detail. However, Magic Kingdom is not a museum, nor is the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, and as such, numerous projects are being worked on to further revitalize Florida’s leading vacation destination.

This all begins in 2025 with the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, which will be replaced with a new area inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise. Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland is evolving alongside this new expansion, with the shooting arcade closing permanently earlier this year.

Magic Kingdom will also be getting a new “Villains” land, which will be located somewhere “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This project is still years away, but it’s certainly exciting to think about what this new expansion may look and feel like when complete.

These Magic Kingdom projects are just some of the changes slated to hit Walt Disney World, with each of the resort’s four theme parks receiving expansions and transformations of their own over the next decade.
