The Star Wars franchise has seen better days, especially after the events of The Acolyte, but one newcomer to the galaxy wants to throw her hat into the Disney+ ring.

If you are both a hard-core gamer and a fan of the galaxy far, far away, you have probably invested more than a few hours in Star Wars Outlaws by Ubisoft and Lucasfilm. This open-world experience takes players across the galaxy as they step into the boots of Kay Vess as she lives life on the edge of the Outer Rim.

That’s all very exciting, but it might not stop at the consoles. In a recent interview, Humberly González, Kay’s voice actor, shared how she wants to see the game made into a series or film adaptation for Disney+.

The game follows a bounty hunter who navigates the criminal underworld of the Outer Rim. She embarks on a daring mission to become the galaxy’s most notorious outlaw while uncovering a dark conspiracy and trying to clear the bounty on her head set by a notorious crime lord.

Although its premise has all the swagger and shady dealings worthy of Han Solo himself, the game itself has received mixed reviews. IGN’s Tristan Ogilvie had this to say in its official coverage (found here).

“It’s ironic that Kay’s ship is called the Trailblazer since there’s actually not a whole lot of ideas in ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ that haven’t been done before in other action and open-world adventures. Instead, it’s quite like the Millenium Falcon: a bucket of bolts held together with repurposed parts and prone to breaking down, but at its best, it’s more than capable of jolting your pleasure centers into ‘Star Wars’ fan hyperspace. A clever syndicate system brings real weight to almost every task you choose to undertake, some of which have creative quest designs that can often conjure up some genuinely stunning blindsides. Having a pal like Nix at your side the entire time not only adds an extra dimension to Kay’s fairly generic smuggler character but also gives her an enhanced set of useful abilities. But even he can’t quite make its stealth and combat feel any less rigid and repetitive, and the odds of avoiding the many glaring technical issues present at launch are 3,720 to one. But you probably didn’t want me to tell you the odds.”

Ogilvie points out that many of Outlaws‘ strengths come from its visuals and storytelling. If that is indeed the case, it might have done better as a Disney+ series or spinoff film. That idea might not be so far out of our grasp, as Humberly González commented during a recent interview with Variety.

Given the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, video game movies are seeing something of a renaissance. Who’s to say Disney and Lucasfilm can’t do the same thing?

González was asked how she would feel if Star Wars Outlaws was given the Disney+ treatment, to which she replied,

“I think it would be incredible to see Kay Vess in live action, because one thing that we don’t see in animation is those micro-expressions of a real human being on screen.  And it would be incredible for me to experience what it would be like to be literally in her costume, in her appearance, her likeness, in the landscape, to see her interact with real characters, the creatures. It would be a dream come true. I certainly would not say no to the opportunity. And I think there’s so many opportunities to see Kay Vess and other aspects of established roles in ‘Star Wars,’ because we’re in the original trilogy, and there’s so many opportunities for her to exist or show up and in different places. So it would be amazing, and I think fans would love it.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Disney has adapted a Star Wars character from the extended media into the core series; just look at the success Dave Filoni has had with Grand Admiral Thrawn. It might take some work and some severe negotiations, but this might be in the realm of possibility.

That said, Disney and Lucasfilm are undoubtedly on thin ice after the cancellation of The Acolyte. Their first order of business is to win back the trust of a very jilted fanbase.

Of course, this is all pure speculation, and Disney, Ubisoft, or Lucasfilm have not confirmed anything at this time. Still, there are certainly interested parties who would love to see this brought to life.
