Following Robert Downey Jr.’s poignant sacrifice as Iron Man/Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame and Chris Evans passing on the Captain America mantle from Steve Rogers’ elderly shoulders, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is poised to face even greater and more formidable challenges. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes stand on the brink of the unknown as they enter the Multiverse Saga.

Shortly thereafter, the MCU bade farewell to another fan-favorite character, Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), following her character-defining journey in the Disney+ (Disney Plus) original series WandaVision (2021).

Now, it appears that after Elizabeth Olsen’s apparent death as the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), The Walt Disney Company’s Marvel Studios has decided to bring the star back for another round in the Marvel gauntlet — only this time, despite rumors of Olsen’s possible return — it’s likely she won’t be portraying the fan-favorite Scarlet Witch, but an entirely new character.

Scooper and insider Alex Perez is hinting that Elizabeth Olsen will portray Virginia Vision in the upcoming Vision Quest/Vision show, meant to follow up with Paul Bettany’s White Vision from WandaVision, and not return as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. This means that Olsen will be “recast” in the MCU as a different character, much like Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role of Doctor Doom/Victor von Doom after the death of Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Perez shares the following image of Vision’s android wife from “The Visions” storyline in the Marvel Comics, seated in a chair with her back to the viewer, saying “I do not know how to fix fix fix…” in response to a scoop from Scarlet Witch Updates quoting Deadline:

This could indicate a new trend in which Disney brings back the big names of Marvel but as entirely new characters to keep things interesting for the actors in the Multiverse. Perhaps Kevin Feige isn’t done with the Multiverse Saga after all, after the ridiculous billion-dollar success of Deadpool & Wolverine this summer.

Two projects currently will stand in for a proper WandaVision Season 2. The WandaVision story will continue in the upcoming spinoff, Agatha All Along (formerly known as Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Agatha: House of Harkness), which features Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness/Agnes.

Vision Quest (or potentially just VISION) will continue the WandaVision story even further and, if all goes well, bring the tale of the White Vision’s android-building quest for a “real family” to Marvel fans’ screens.

More on Marvel’s Agatha All Along

Marvel has something new in the works following Secret Invasion (2023) and Captain Marvel 2 following The Marvels (2023), and it’s not just The Fantastic Four.

Agatha All Along is led by head writer Jac Schaeffer, with Gandja Monteiro and Rachel Goldberg directing, and Kevin Feige serving as executive producer. It follows Agatha as she leads a witches’ coven, seeking redemption for her past misdeeds and promising to shake up the traditional Marvel Cinematic Universe style with a musical theater bent with music by Disney and Broadway darlings .

Official announcements confirm the involvement of actors such as Aubrey Plaza (rumored to play Agatha’s ex, Rio Vidal), Ali Ahn (likely Alice Gulliver), and Maria Dizzia, although their roles remain officially undisclosed. Broadway legend Patti LuPone joins the cast as Lilia Calderu, an elder witch central to the coven’s story. Additionally, Sasheer Zamata will portray Sorceress Jennifer Kale.

A recent reveal includes Joe Locke, likely to play Billy Maximoff/Billy Kaplan, Wanda Maximoff’s son and the superhero Wiccan from Marvel Comics, but officially cast as “Teen”. Returning from WandaVision, Debra Jo Rupp will reprise her role as Mrs. Hart, and Fred Melamed will return as Arthur Hart.
