Many consider Disney’s original Pirates of the Caribbean to be an “untouchable” attraction, similar to other legendary rides like Haunted Mansion and “it’s a small world. While there certainly may be room for improvement, Pirates of the Caribbean and other classic dark rides not only provide a fun ride but also serve as a time capsule, allowing guests of all ages to share an experience together.
This is exactly why any proposed changes to iconic Disney rides, especially Pirates of the Caribbean, are met with backlash.
However, Disney is seemingly preparing the ride for a minor update in the near future.

The launch of Disney Genie+ in 2021 fundamentally changed the Disney theme park experience forever, altering the way guests book and plan their vacations and enjoy the various rides and attractions sprinkled throughout the theme parks.
Instead of simply booking a FastPass reservation, guests had to purchase Disney Genie+ to skip the standby lines on Disney’s most popular rides. This not only required guests to do some significant research before their trip, but it also required new scanners to be built for all of the rides and attractions at Disney.
However, earlier this year, Disney announced it was ending its somewhat confusing and controversial Disney Genie+ system, opting to use a new service simply called Lightning Lane.
Lighting Lane offers both a multi-pass and a single-pass option, theoretically making the process easier on guests.
However, rides and attractions will need to be adjusted to fit within this new system, with the first possible signs of transformation being spotted at Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean.

As time goes on, Pirates of the Caribbean continues to become more popular, though Disney has undoubtedly upgraded this attraction over the years. Disneyland is apparently preparing to overhaul a certain aspect of this ride.
These images show what appears to be a new scanner on the outside portion of Pirates of the Caribbean’s queue. It’s unclear when exactly this new object was placed in the queue, but it’s clear Disneyland is getting ready to make some sort of change to the classic ride’s line.
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most popular rides at Disneyland Park and is arguably Disney’s most iconic attraction.
Filled with incredible theming, dozens of animatronics, captivating scenery, and a catchy soundtrack, Pirates of the Caribbean is the complete package for most Disney fans. Not only is this dark ride a fun, immersive experience, but it’s also thrilling, plunging guests down a small drop and blasting them with cannon fire.
A version of Pirates of the Caribbean can be found worldwide, with each Disney resort putting its own unique spin on the legendary pirate adventure.
Shanghai Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean marks the largest departure from the classic Disney formula, utilizing screen technology and advanced lighting techniques to create one of the most impressive and high-tech adventures in a Disney theme park to date.
Other versions of Pirates of the Caribbean, like Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland’s, offer a more simple and classic experience, still with their own unique twists.
