Following the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) last year, a major organizational shakeup led to the exit of former DC head Walter Hamada. James Gunn, the acclaimed director best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), particularly the Guardians of the Galaxy series, is taking over the reins.

Now serving as CEO alongside co-CEO Peter Safran, Gunn assumes a pivotal role in reshaping the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The DCEU, initially celebrated for its iconic characters such as Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent/Superman from Zack Snyder’s Justice League franchise, undergoes transformation under Gunn’s leadership.

Gunn, who previously worked on DCEU projects like The Suicide Squad (2021) (distinct from the 2016 film starring Jared Leto as the Joker), has now risen to a position of true creative authority within DC Studios.
In his role, he serves as a counterpart to Kevin Feige at Marvel, steering the creative direction of the DC Universe (DCU). Currently, DC Studios is preparing to introduce something entirely unique, setting itself apart from Marvel Studios’ offerings.

DC’s Superman Series Sees Season Premiere Moved
In the latest installment of the DC Universe (DCU) titled Chapter One – Gods and Monsters, James Gunn is gearing up for a significant revamp of the former DCEU, aiming to initiate a brand-new start.
With these changes over at DC Studios, it’s natural that the drive to simplify the DC Universe and restart afresh is paramount. Considering the retirement of Henry Cavill’s iteration of Clark Kent/Superman, one other part of the pre-existing Superman puzzle is ending as the new age of DC Studios dawns — the fan-favorite Arrowverse, which includes the ongoing television series Superman & Lois.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. will move the fourth and final season premiere of Superman & Lois to October 7 and continue to release new episodes every Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Originally intended to debut on October 17, the two-hour premiere for Superman & Lois’ last season will now come to the CW 10 days earlier than the original release.
