Michael Keaton’s Batman is returning for a special anniversary event in addition to his epic return to the “Burton-Verse” later this year.

No big-screen iteration of Bruce Wayne/Batman is as widely loved as Michael Keaton’s. The beloved actor first slipped into the iconic cape and cowl in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) in which he faces off against Jack Napier/The Joker (Jack Nicholson).

He reprised his role in Batman Returns (1992) to fight Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Danny DeVito) and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). And, after 30 years, Keaton returned in the DC Universe (DCU) Multiverse adventure movie The Flash (2023).

Sadly, we may never see Michael Keaton’s Batman on the silver screen ever again. We should have had four movies featuring Burton’s Dark Knight, but the DCU movie Batgirl, which would have seen him return in a “mentor” capacity, was canceled by Warner Bros. in 2022.

Fortunately, Michael Keaton’s Batman has returned in other storytelling mediums. In 2021, DC Comics released “Batman ’89” (2021), which is set after Batman Returns and features several returning characters with the actors’ likenesses, including the star himself.

The second series in the “Batman ’89” comic book universe, titled “Echoes,” is ongoing. And earlier this year, it was revealed that Star Wars author John Jackson Miller is penning a story titled “Batman: Resurrection” (2024) with Penguin Random House.

Like “Batman ’89”, the upcoming novel takes place in the now-dubbed “Burton-Verse” first created on the big screen. However, unlike the comic book series, it follows on directly from the original film Batman (1989) and brings back characters from both movies.

Now, per Screen Rant, Michael Keaton’s Batman is set to return once again.

To celebrate 85 years of the Caped Crusader, who first appeared in “Detective Comics Issue 27” (1939), DC Comics’ upcoming “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest Issue 30” (2024) will feature a variant cover that pays homage to the Burton-Verse’s crime-fighter.

Jorge Jiménez’s cover honors both Michael Keaton’s Batman and the cover for “Detective Comics #587” (1988) by the late artist Norm Breyfogle. Click here to see both images.

The description for “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest Issue 30” is as follows:

“Get ready to see the Trinity—Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman—take part in their first adventure as a trio!”

It will be released by DC Comics on August 21. “Batman: Resurrection” will be released on October 15.
