Change is inevitable, even at Walt Disney World Resort. However, when Disney Imagineers decided to repurpose one of Disney World’s and Disneyland’s most iconic attractions, Splash Mountain, the whirlwind of opinions made things very difficult for some fans of the ride when Disney announced that it would become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Still, despite outside pressure from those disgusted by the idea that Disney would shake up things so much, the plans to move on with rebranding Splash Mountain continued, and we’re now on the cusp of the grand opening of a brand new attraction, possibly one of the most controversial ever, from Walt Disney Imagineering.

An Update on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

As Splash Mountain has officially gone away, Disney Imagineers have been hard at work installing water towers, floral décor, and testing ride systems at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, while guests to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World wait impatiently for the scrim walls to come down.

With summer looming, guests can soon step into the enchanting world of Princess Tiana at Magic Kingdom and embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure filled with music, magic, and Southern charm. As they journey through this immersive experience, riders will be transported to the heart of New Orleans and the mysterious bayou.

Full of the beloved characters from The Princess and the Frog (2009), including Princess Tiana herself and the jazz-loving alligator Louis, guests can join them as they take you on a musical voyage showcasing the rich culture and vibrant spirit of New Orleans.

Most notable right now, those visiting Magic Kingdom can already enjoy the lush surroundings of Tiana’s Bayou, where every corner is teeming with excitement and wonder. Even now, visitors to the Disney Park can preview the wonderful work of Disney as the external transformation of Splash Mountain is completed, now covered in floral arrangements fit for Disney’s favorite Southern princess.

Inside is a different story as guests can feel the magic come alive as they encounter iconic landmarks like Mama Odie’s quaint cottage and Tiana’s Palace, where delicious cuisine and lively entertainment await.

This new attraction at Magic Kingdom is not just a ride – it’s a magical journey that will leave you spellbound from beginning to end that opens this summer.

How are Disney Guests Feeling as the Opening Approaches

Recently, we visited Magic Kingdom and shared the awe of previewing the outside of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Although this wasn’t an official preview, guests to Magic Kingdom Park were enamored by what you can see peaking over the scrim walls, hiding the final details of the new attraction at Walt Disney World.

Still, despite the unfinished product, many park guests to Magic Kingdom, many of whom were decked out in merchandise featuring Tiana and Prince Naveen, stood there snapping pictures as testing took place, offering a sneak peek at what we can expect from the attraction when it opens.

We had the opportunity and pleasure of talking to many of these guests about their thoughts regarding the change at Magic Kingdom, and the results were surprising, to say the least. Although many online have voiced extreme displeasure over the removal of Splash Mountain, the excitement and perspective of what lay ahead for the popular log flume ride’s evolution was positive among guests at Disney World.

I’m going to miss the experience as it was, but I’m excited for change. Goodbye Brer Rabbit, hello Mama Odie,” said Daniel from Tennessee.

It was time; I know many people are upset, but it was time. Tiana’s Story needs to be featured somewhere here. Rapunzel, Cinderella, and all the others are represented well; give my girl Tiana the love she deserves,” Said Twanisha from Georgia.

The fuss is stupid; Disney said everything would be changing, so embrace the change; it’s still magical,” said Austin from Texas.

It seems that most are excited about the new addition, but some went further in expressing the ultimate need for Disney to acknowledge how problematic Splash Mountain was, unlike rides like Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion.

If you dive into how Splash Mountain came to be, really dig, you’ll understand easily that it was time to change it. Profiting off of slave stories is not something I want to be a part of,” said Vanessa from Florida.

Brer Rabbit was adorable, but he represented something much deeper than cute stories, and the ride didn’t do a good job of educating us on that,” said Marcus from Florida.

Ultimately, Guests Have Embraces Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

As the opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure approaches, it seems that guest opinions regarding the change at Magic Kingdom have shifted. Although there are certainly a few hold-outs, of the twenty or so guests we spoke to, the majority felt that visitors should let go of Splash Mountain and embrace the new theming.
