Happy 53rd Birthday, Ewan McGregor! The Scottish actor is well-known for performances in films and television shows like Trainspotting (1996), Moulin Rouge! (2001), Big Fish (2003), Fargo, Halston, Beauty and the Beast (2017), Christopher Robin (2018), Doctor Sleep (2019), and Birds of Prey (2020) opposite his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead. His performances have earned him numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award.
That being said, McGregor’s most beloved character is easily Obi-Wan Kenobi. Taking over the character from Alec Guinness, he debuted as the iconic hero in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). He has since played Kenobi in six additional productions, including the self-titled Disney+ series. And if he has his way, he’ll continue to play the Jedi master.
“There’s Time To Tell More Stories.”

In an interview with Ladbible about his upcoming television series A Gentleman in Moscow, Ewan McGregor spoke about his future as Obi-Wan Kenobi, acknowledging that he has lied about his role in the past. Still, he stands by that he doesn’t know whether he’ll come back or not.
“The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that, and I’m not lying about this now. There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one’. Obi-Wan was made as a limited series, and it’s out, and people like it, which I’m very, very pleased about.”

He continued:
“I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.”
While this all sounds like an uncertain future for the actor and the character, many people out there still think McGregor will make his return. And we agree.
We’ll Definitely See Ewan McGregor in Star Wars Again

Aside from the fact McGregor has lied about his participation in Star Wars in the past for the sake of secrecy, there are many factors that could bring the character back, the most prominent being the actor’s love for Obi-Wan. He has already been pitching ideas for a second season, and there is still plenty of time between the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) to explore new stories separate from Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker.
When a series is that successful, and the star wants to return, a studio has to acknowledge that there are more stories to tell, especially when Disney needs more wins than ever. In a just world, we’ll definitely see more from McGregor’s Kenobi and his adventures on Tatooine.
