For the first time in over six months, a new cast member has been added to Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy as the premiere of the third and final entry draws nearer. And unsurprisingly, she has quite the resume.

Sony Pictures’ Venom (2018) might not’ve been a smash hit with critics upon its release, but fans clearly couldn’t get enough of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, as the origin story far exceeded box office expectations. Naturally, this spurred Sony to greenlight a sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), also based on the popular Marvel comics antihero.
Now, Venom 3 (2024) is on the not-so-distant horizon, and from the sounds of it, the threequel will mark Hardy’s “last dance” as the titular alien symbiote. So far, little remains known about the movie’s plot other than the fact that Kelly Marcel will direct, taking the reins from Andy Serkis. Ted Lasso alum Juno Temple and Doctor Strange (2016) vet Chiwetel Ejiofor will also star, though their roles remain unknown.

While fans perhaps have more questions than answers regarding Venom 3, Variety recently offered an exciting casting update, confirming that Clark Backo, best known for The Changeling and Letterkenny, has signed onto the project in an undisclosed role.
Venom 3 will likely be Backo’s most buzz-worthy gig to date, considering most of her accolades are in the TV landscape. Some might remember the actress from The CW’s long-running drama series Supernatural, in which she played Patience Turner in the Season 13 episode “Patience” opposite Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Kim Rhodes (Jody Mills).

With such a stacked cast, Venom 3 is shaping up to be one of the most crucial superhero blockbusters of the year, considering that Marvel Studios is taking somewhat of a back seat at the box office with just one theatrical release, Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
There’s no denying that Sony Entertainment needs a big win after the catastrophic failure of its latest SSU release, Madame Web (2024), which currently sits at a 13% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. And given that the Venom movies have proven to be box office hits in the past, there’s indeed potential for the upcoming threequel to rake in big bucks.
As for Venom 3‘s story, the film will need to pick up on loose plot threads introduced in the post-credits of Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), in which Eddie and Venom briefly flip-flop universes with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker — both of which have gone unaddressed.

It remains to be seen whether Marvel and Sony have plans of fully bringing the “Lethal Protector” into the MCU, but with the Multiverse Saga in full swing, Venom 3 could be a perfect jumping-off point to do so.
Venom 3 is slated to arrive in theaters on November 8, 2024.
