A few years ago I went down to Disney world where I had a room booked at Art of Animation
Long story short I arrived at hotel and after 3 hours of still not receiving room information I went to see what was going on and was told they gave my room to someone else as they were overbooked
The cast member had nerve to ask me if I could stay with family or somewhere off Disney property
I was like umm no I paid premium to stay at Disney resort and this is a Disney problem since they overbooked the rooms and after speaking up for myself and asserting myself I was eventually given a room at Port Orleans Riverside
I stayed at port Orleans in January of 2023. I loved how it was spread out. The room was immaculate in comparison to other hotels I’ve stayed at. We are big coffee drinkers. They brought us tons of coffee. Very very relaxing resort. As much as I loved the excitement of being at Disney. The relaxation of the resort and being spread out I felt great. The staff was great. We split the stay with Caribbean beach resort. The buses were very quick. Never longer than 10 mins. Boats to Disney spring at night wonderful. After 10 times or so being to Orlando…we finally did it right. No few drinks and going back to hotel…up stairs etc. Just stay…wake up and go. Night life at city walk was awesome. Usually 3 to 4 bands going. Total tourist trap….but totally worth it for convenience. The midline hotels were great. I can imagine the 500 a night hotels being even better. I already want to go back. Oh…before I forget…you can enter the parks a half hour early and be the first in line for the long wait rides. You only get one…but saves you and hour of your day. Wear comfortable shoes! And smile!
I worked at riverside in housekeeping, it sounds like a coordinator, house person, or keeper was doing a service for that room (room inspection, light housekeeping, bed change etc), and didn’t hear the guest. It can be scary but it’s not like the person stayed after she asked them to leave.
It doesn’t sound like that to me since the person didn’t apologize and the hotel apparently didn’t confirm it was staff. I believe it was another guest. Since you worked there, you know that with electronic keys and everything being on computer, the rooms can be double assigned and the front desk can give out the electronic key to more than one person. This happens all the time at hotels around the world, not just at Disney. This particular set of incidents sounds like front desk being overstretched, stressed, a training issue, or pure mistake.
Everyone should put the bolt on their rooms every time they are in there and if someone tries to enter, call them front desk and remain calm. It is most likely an error thay can be swiftly sorted.
I agree. We had regular room checks last visit. They housekeeping knocks. However, if she was in the bathroom she may not have heard them and was surprised by the door opening. Once, long time ago, late at night while we were sleeping, someone opened the connecting door from the room next to us at Poly. We were alarmed and called security. They came right away and assured that there was another family occupying that room. Failure to lock door by housekeeping was apparently the cause. Noticed a few years later that the door knobs were changed to make it more difficult to open a door to the room next to you.
Did I read this article correctly in that it states French Quarter was the larger of the two. This is totally incorrect. Not sure where your information comes from and how reliable it really is
Okay, sounds a little strange to me. When you are in the hotel room, don’t you lock the door and put latch on? I live Port’s Orleans riverside! It is so peaceful there
Stayed for 10 days at the B Hotel in Disney Springs. Our Door was unlocked 5 of our 10 days there when we returned to our room. After the first time; we closed the door carefully and checked ir 2 or 3 times. Never heard from a Manager. Front desk kept telling us they would bring it to the housekeeping managers attention. Bad experience.
Both port orleans hotels are not very nice. The rooms are very dated, dark furniture, dark carpeting and the dreaded shower curtain. They’re awful, but they do have boat access to Disney Springs. This hotel was also the subject of a sting investigation into a couple of housekeepers stealing from guests. I’d avoid both hotels.
Apparently you haven’t been in the last year or so. All rooms at French Quarter have been updated with wood vinyl flooring, bedding, furniture and bathrooms.
French Quarter was already updated (hard flooring etc) when we stayed there in Feb 2019, and Riverside has been done since. So you have no idea what you’re talking about as far as the room decor goes.
My husband and I stayed at the art of animation hotel and he had to do zoom court one afternoon for work so we were hanging out in the hotel room with the do not disturb sign on and someone was knocking on the door but we ignored it and in the middle of my husband’s work call in zoom some random employee let herself into our room and said she was there to “check on” the room. I freaked out and went down to guest relations and they said they have a right to enter despite having the sign on.
That’s not entirely true. If the Do Not Disturb sign is on the door they should attempt to call the room first and then enter only if there is reason to believe there is an emergency. Theybshould not just come in disregarding the sign for regular business like housekeeping or maintenance. That is not hotel protocol. This is poor training.
In the past, I have stayed at the Contemporary, the Wilderness Lodge, and the Carribean Beach Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Hotel in California. I have never had a problem with any of the accommodations. Always had children with me. On our last trip we stayed at the Carribean. The kids loved it. Especially the characters at the pool.
The music resort value was the worst. We have been to the resorts since 95 several times. On that trip we extended our stay by booking one of the suites. Upon arrival I wanted to rinse a coffee cup and the sink was clogged. I called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man who kept saying don’t throw things down the sink. I told him we literally just arrived he insisted we threw the garbage down the drain. Left a Hugh mess I had to clean up because housekeeping couldn’t tell me when they would arrive.
The second was old key west. We were assigned a handicap room that was not what we needed. Open the door to be hit with a bleach smell. The who room was so bad we had to open the windows. After 20 mins realized the refrigerator was not clean. Called and they moved us immediately. We left the door open over 30 mins to get rid of bleach smell did not go away.
Other than these two experiences we never had any other issues.
Never had a bad experience at Disney, BUT then that was before it became WOKE. Last time was 4 years ago, and I DO mean last time. Checked it out this week and costs for just hotel was 3 times higher. Sorry know. Funny for being so woke they’re discriminatory and racist. Discriminatory in the fact you have to have lots of money to go now, racist by virtue of hearing minorities saying they don’t.
I travel with POC who, as they are paying customers, have as much right to be there as you. We are treated no better or worse (which at one time in recent history wasn’t the case!).
So glad you won’t be returning. It will make our stay more pleasant without entitled jerks like you.
On our last trip to the Caribbean, our ‘key’ wasn’t working at check-in. A cast member came within ten minutes to assist. The next day, he checked on us to see if we were having any trouble. He’d wave when we’d see him during our weeks stay.
When you have good service, a smile and thank you is nice. When you have very good service, let someone higher up know. It really ends up making the experience better for the next customers down the line and I KNOW it makes CMs better CMs!
With all the millions of people who stay at a Disney resort there will be a few mishaps. I’ve stayed over 40 times and only had 2 and both were dealt with promptly to my satisfaction.
We’ve been to Disney many times over the years. Stayed in value resorts, moderate resorts and now deluxe as we are fortunate enough to own DVC. We have never had any issues or delays when we had to call the front desk.
Not sure what her angle is, but this sounds fishy.
Woman of color? Can I get a saltine please? She’s biting her nails? Looks like they are ABC nails (Already Been Chewed). If the guy is still there and management isn’t responding, why not call the police at that point? Again, sounds fishy to me.
This scenario is not as unlikely as you might think. Since all hotels use electronic keys and Disney also uses phone access, there is not just a couple of physical keys out there to prevent the front desk from guving out a room twice. The front desk can and occasionally does make the mistake assigning out a room that is already assigned. Computers get glitches and people read numbers wrong
. Also people misread room numbers or names. (I know of a situation where 2 people showed up with the same last name and were both given keys to one of their rooms).
The fact that the man stood outside the room looking at his phone indicates he was a guest trying to figure out if he had the wrong room. Staff would apologize and move on. They have other things to do. She should have had the bolt on, but she also should be able to expect that a strange man would not be given her key.
Put the latch across the door folks if you want privacy. How silly. Any cast member can access your room at anytime. You’re in a hotel for crying out loud! 😂😂😂
Have these complainers ever stayed anywhere else ? I stayed at the dolphin several years ago . I opened the room door and checked the room out. In the bathroom someone had already used the toilet caused a back up and left it ! It seems the toom was given to another person before it was given to me that day ! Problem was no came up to fix the issue ? Took me almost 3 hours to get another room . I was asked though if they fixed the ” problem ” would l like to stay in the room !!!
They do ask that because some people would rather stay in a room because they don’t want to move their luggage again or they still want a specific view or distance from the elevator, etc.
It has become quite fashionable to complain and even fabricate negative stories about Disney. Someone seems to have a complaint about something related to Disney everyday. For those of us that stay there regularly and never have unresolved issues, keep going, for those of you that have issues, then stop going. It should be as simple as that….
Port Orleans was disgusting. Housekeeping never even change the sheets from the last guest in my opinion because I marked them and asked them to be changed and they still weren’t changed. They also lost my medicine and rude and gave us no credit for anything. I would never stay there again.
I’ve been a DVC member for 20+ years and have stayed at Disney many times. Not every stay has been ‘perfection’, but I have never had an issue that couldn’t be resolved by the front desk. Scan the reviews for all of the top chains/resorts. None have a perfect rating. Sometimes ‘things’ happen.
I have stayed in almost all the Disney hotels over the years and it’s always been great. We did get assigned to a room in Riverside that was already occupied. Disney apologised and immediately upgraded us to a Riverview room. Other than that, we seem to always get given the fathest away, end of a corridor, no view rooms etc. I now check first and they move me to a far better location. As my companion is in a wheelchair, Disney always state they put them nearest to the amenities, but its my experience they don’t: quite the opposite. I don’t make a fuss, just ask the manager to change it.
I do however always use the bolt on the door when we are in the room and put the wheelchair right by the door as an obstacle. It’s just basic safety.

We checked into Boardwalk, Villas one year and when we got in the room I dropped something on the floor. When I went to pick it up I noticed under the sofa bed was fruit loops. Called housekeeping and a person came as well as someone from the front desk. They said they would clean it right up, which they did. She sort of insinuated I was being picky. It must have been a half a box of cereal. Next year when we got there they said our room wasn’t ready because they had to do a special cleaning for us. Because at our last visit we found the room unsatisfactory.
@Mike so they might enter a room to see if a gun is sitting out on the dresser? Because I’d have a big problem if they were randomly going through people’s luggage ‘just in case’. Some stranger searching without a warrant, without cause, and without someone in authority is a violation of the 4th amendment of the constitution.
If t were my room, they would have a big problem. Regardless of if they found a gun.
I just got back from a stay at Pop Century resort and had an experience I’ve never had at Disney before. Normally everything is great but not this time. We arrived early so our room wasn’t ready yet. We left our luggage at the resort and went to Disney springs for several hours . I got a text saying our room was ready at 3:15 pm. We got back around 6 pm. My friend had an apple tracking device in his luggage and it was saying his bag was in a room on the other end of the resort. Needless to say when we got to our room none of our luggage was to be found. I called the main desk and told them what happened. They transferred me to luggage and when they picked up they told me they were aware and that someone was on their way to get it and bring it to us. About 40 minutes later they showed up . The next day , after getting a little angry about the whole situation , I went to the front desk and told the girl there about what happened and how I wasn’t happy that our luggage may have been sitting in someone else’s room for several hours . Anything could have happened to it . Luckily nothing did. She went to get a manager and it took about 15-20 minutes for her to show up . She said she was trying to get in touch with the luggage manager who was in the phone so she finally just took me out to meet her. I sat outside in the bench for about 10 minutes waiting on her. Again I had to tell her the whole story again and why I was upset . She apologized and asked if she could get back with me in about a half hour so she could try and find out what happened . An hour later she called me back and said that our luggage was delivered to that room because originally that was going to be our room. She then asked if I had maybe requested a room change and I said no I got one text only with the room we have now . She said the other room was not occupied so our luggage was never with other guests but I don’t think that’s the truth given how busy they are. Not once did they ever offer me anything for the trouble or the nearly two hours I wasted talking to three different managers and employees from two different parts of the resort. I was also very nice and calm when talking to everyone so they can’t say I was angry or vicious about it. I do feel they could’ve offered me some of that pixie dust they claim to have but they at least got our luggage to us I guess
So your luggage was delivered to the wrong room and you were angry about it. I admit I would have been upset if that happened to me. But it isn’t as if the staff lost your luggage. They knew where it was and delivered it to you in 40 minutes which is a reasonable amount of time. You also said something could have happened to it but nothing did! At that point you should have thought “all’s well that ends well”. Then just let it go. I must admit though I would have wanted to talk with the luggage manager also to let her know what happened so she would take some action to be sure it didn’t happen again (which it probably will anyway). She owed you nothing but a sincere apology which is what she gave you.
I want to mention that when you said “not once did they offer me anything for the trouble or the nearly two hours I wasted …” I couldn’t help but think if you had just accepted the fact that the problem with your misplaced luggage had a happy ending you wouldn’t have wasted nearly two hours of your precious and expensive Disney time.
Hmm … the magical pixie dust. Maybe that’s how you got your luggage back! 😲
I stayed at POR in 2015 and loved it. The Tiana-themed rooms were like sleeping in magic. Sure it was a slight hassle to get to the parks, but the space was great. I also remember one particular maintenance person who gave me and my 2 friends a ride down the walkway when I said we were on our way to POFQ to get some bigness. Just added a little touch to the magic!
I took my mother there after her husband died. I love Disney, and she wanted to experience all of it. (they had gone a few years earlier, and basically just walked the parks. She never got to even see the fireworks and they ate at POR every day with their dining plan)
We stayed at WL, where my husband and I had stayed a couple of times before and really liked it. A couple of days into a 10 day trip she didn’t feel well. Then one night she started throwing up. I called the Dr on call, who wasn’t going to do anything, and was ticked when an hour later I called again to say she was worse. I ended up calling an ambulance. They took her right out the front door on a stretcher. They admitted her for pneumonia. For her, that was life threatening because of other health issues. She was in for several days, and I spent most of my time there. Who wants to be so sick and stuck in a strange city, in a strange hospital? Anyway, I had to extend our trip as she wasn’t up to getting on a plane. They had someone checking in the next day. They had specially requested it. We were in a quiet area, hard to find at Disney but exactly what she needed. The manager pushed and pushed, said we had to move, refused to put the incoming guests in a different room. They even had someone come and help me pack. So nice. I told them she had to be in a quiet area, which the manager promised. In the U of the center, where the pool is, and where across from us they were doing some refurbishing of the outside. I was told there were no other rooms.
Oh- and when I extended the trip, the dining plan was canceled on the day we were supposed to leave. Luckily the people in the hotel counter service were so familiar with me, they helped. Yes, I did write a letter to Disney, praising them.
We never got any towel animals. It felt like we were paying $500 per night for a cold chain hotel. I haven’t been back since, because of the way we were treated. I think even if they gave us a free trip, I’d decline. An apology would have been nice. And I did write to the powers that be at Disney. I hope they either moved that manager or fired him. That was the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and I travel a lot.
While staying on property at Disney you MUST WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY. You sign away that right to privacy when you sign in at registration. Disney has the right to enter any room at any time unannounced. End of story…
Kinda makes you cringe, doesn’t it? Disney wants to see everything about you.
Stop crying over something so petty. Your luggage wasn’t tampered with and you got it all back. Stop complaining and making life harder for the employees just because of a minor inconvenience
So I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside for the first time in May of 2022 and my experience was pretty pleasent as it’s peaceful and quite lovely. I will say that the fact that all the rooms have direct access to the outside is a bit disconcerting, particularly if you are a woman and are by yourself. Anytime I was in the room, I made sure all the locks were engaged and before I went to bed, I pushed a chair against the door just for extra peace of mind. Maybe that comes from watching too many episodes of Dateline, but I don’t leave anything to chance. Yes I know the electronic lock is supposed to be engaged, but those can be hacked. I do understand that the woman who posted the video about the guy coming into room said she had left the locks undone so that her friend could get in, and yes she should not have to worry about the possibility of a stranger getting in, but given the world we live in, one has to take precautions. Better to keep it locked and make your friend have to knock, then have something bad happen.
Obviously people who haven’t stayed at many hotels before. These things happen. It’s not just Disney. But I suppose a dramatic TiKTok video is better than just being calm and carrying on.

Disney does room checks daily. This way they can be sure that guests are safe from a) health issues and b) anything happening like the Vegas shooting.

Sounds like invasion of privacy, what if you had been in the shower or doing something else? They should call the room or number on the reservation.

I do however always use the bolt on the door when we are in the room and put the wheelchair right by the door as an obstacle. It’s just basic safety.

Daily room checks for obvious weapons have been done by many hotel chains since the MGM massacre in Vegas as a company policy. WDW is one of them.

I got awful food poisoning at Disney, ending up in the hospital. That was my first & last Disney trip.
