Hogwarts Legacy has been mired in controversy since its announcement.
Fans of the Wizarding World have been torn between their love of the universe they grew up with and the combination of polarizing comments J.K. Rowling has made in the past and implied antisemitism in the game. Players are able to create their own characters, attend classes, cast spells, and interact with other characters.
One aspect of the game that has made it so entertaining to players is that it’s an open-world RPG, allowing players to fully explore Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and more without being confined to seeing everything through a single character’s perspective. Even with the debate, the game has seen decently high ratings from sources like IGN and has been met with much fan praise.
So much so, that the latest rumor claims that Hogwarts Legacy will be adapted into a show for HBO Max. There have long been rumors about some kind of Harry Potter show or reboot being in the works, with “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” supposedly in development as a feature film. Giant Freakin Robot claims to have sources verifying the rumor, though there isn’t much else known at this time.
With one of the biggest draws of the game being the open-world adventuring, it would be interesting to see how a show would take that concept and adapt it into a focused series. More interesting still would be the fan reactions to it and if they would continue to hold up to a different iteration of Hogwarts Legacy.
The game takes place in the 1800s, well before the timeline of the original Harry Potter franchise or the Fantastic Beasts story. With that in mind, it’s unlikely any original actors or characters will make an appearance in the show, although several have expressed interest in returning the to franchise at some point.
