This article makes no sense. How did guests “break” the system? Selling out doesn’t mean anyone broke anything. This is just a rehash of a rehash of another rehashed article. Quality of this site is starting to get very poor, especially with all the copypasta articles made from Reddit threads and comments.

It’s a blog, at best. Look at the writers….cmon….it’s people no one listens to so they became Disney Adults and ramble on in a blog.

Sounds like such a magical place. Can’t imagine being so brain-dead to be one of these Disney adults. They’re the reason this system is overwhelmed. It’s sad.

Disney Adults are the people who bring their kids to the parks, they work, then save for the Disney Vacation. Some are young adults some middle age, and then some older who supported going to the parks in years past.
Kids do not have $$$ granted to them. They cannot drive to the parks, make reservations. Not sure what you are trying to SAY? The magical place seems to not be the same as years past. I have been going to Disney parks since 1971, and my children would have a hard time paying the price to visit with an average vacation for 5 days costing over $4,000.
I have seen the change, not sure if you have, but Disney needs to control over population in the parks, and the authors writing these articles are telling it like it IS!

I would say that the people who are brain dead are the ones who waste their time. reading these blogs and putting down others who love Disney. I’m with David. If you don’t like what the article talks about, read something else. Most people have interests as a result of fond memories of their childhood. Maybe that’s something everyone should try and do. Figure out their interest, read those articles, and post positive comments. I think everyone would agree that more positive and less negative is something we all could use.

You criticize the writers but you keep reading the stories. You are the sad Disney adult.

Yes look at the author! A 20’s young writer. People who write these blogs are “True Disney Fanatics” They are the people who write information for Disney folks.
Evidently, you are not a Disney person. Stay off the Disney emails, put the emails in your Trash bucket, and don’t read what offends you.

It’s sad to see what Disney has become. Walt would be turning over in his grave. Nothing but money hungry CEO’s

You don’t know what Walt would do. He’s been gone for many years. He was a business man too. People forget that. He was for making money

      1. Karen Baker

But Walt wanted families to be able to come to a park focused on families. He might have been about money but he always put the money back into his creation. I for one would not pay anything extra for a Genie+ as I do not need to get on a ride that badly and it is another added expense and I do not want to spend my time on a phone when I am at any park. Bring back the Fast Pass that was free

Florida resident pass holder here, we don’t use genie + , seems stupid to me to give them any more
Money, so we wait until late afternoon, close to dinner
Time, lines thin out and we can get in under 40 minutes on lines. WDW isn’t about anything other then a money grab…

The Genie+ system backend is tied to Disney’s use of Amazon Web Services, but they’re using a datacenter in Oregon to run everything. Theoretically, the same system runs both coasts parks, but un reality that delay between the parks and the datacenter for a real time processing system that goes through the internet between the users and the Genie+ system is makes the asynchronous data handling even worse and system flooding becomes a problem. Because the slow response is also now slower, people start to retry operations and it gets even worse. Now to control the poor scheduling system, they put in limits. Notice that they didn’t bother with Genie sales limits when it was rolled out? And there wasn’t any limits on the old Fastpass system which probably has more line use inventory. Genie is a bad attempt with a bad execution, to attempt to micromanage the guests in the park to conform to Disney’s wishes vs Disney focusing on the Customer Service and guest experience.

To be blunt… Disney and ALL their services suck anymore. Done with it ALL!

I would never use this system. It is just another way for Disney to ripoff guests. So much for the most magical place on earth. It is now the most expensive place on earth.

We used Genie plus in December. We were only able to book one lightening lane per day. The Disney parks are under staffed, over crowded and they have never recovered from covid. It’s sad.

  7. David A

As stated above Genie+ is not the answer for Disney.
If you can get a reservation to one of the attractions, and it does not interfere with the dining reservations you setup months ago. YOU WIN.
But that is not always or I should not the case to get that spot in your schedule.
Last Feb 2022 we experienced the same issue. One year later and still the same!
If you schedule a ride and get there right on time, you have to wait till that hour is over before setting up another attraction, that is, IF AVAILABLE!
Like the article says, people are buried in their Cell phones and attempting to plan the day, or seeing what they can do or schedule.
WDW has changed, crowds for off season are out of control, from the 2015 visit we had. Our visit in 2020 and 2022 were not the same. Long waits, even with the Genie+ if you can get a reservation, and just not the same Magical Experience as years past.
It is not going away, but the system needs to change, for the better.
And in 2022 and 2023 prices have increased to have to deal with overcrowding, long lines and this is in the off season.

    1. Joe

David A … I am guessing u visit the park alot and want to discourage others from going…. Your statements are false.. if you get to the lightning lane at the beginning of your scheduled time you can book another one then, you do not wait till what was your scheduled time to finish…..I do agree it could be much better …

It’s not going anywhere because people foolishly continue paying the price. They could charge $100 and some fool would still purchase it. As long as people pay for this service, Disney will continue to gouge.

  9. faackanders2

I would be pissed if I paid for Disney+ and was only able to get one LL.

If you plan to have an all digital system for Genie Plus then it needs to work all the time. Our experience was that the system went down, not because it was sold out, and we could not exercise the plan that we purchased until much later in the day. This happened 3 out of the 5 days we were there. Unfortunately it meant we were constantly looking at our phones instead of enjoying the day.

I also think there needs to be a way that someone who does not use digital tools can access this plan. There may be such help but I did not see it advertised anywhere.

So I would say Disney made out on that deal.
