So sorry for your loss of your husband, twice but just an fyi it is policy of WDW you are NOT allowed to dump or bury any human remain on any property. So I’m not sure just what she thought she was going to accomplish at the resort.

this type of behavior is strictly prohibited and unlawful.”

Not only is this against park policy, but any guest caught spreading ashes will be escorted off the property. This is taken very seriously, and it’s referred to by cast members as a “HEPA cleanup incident” since it requires a special cleaning protocol to remove the ash residue.

When guests do succeed in scattering ashes on attractions, there are a lot of repercussions. Not only could they be banned from future entry, but it’s also disruptive to others enjoying the park. These attractions and areas need to be shut down for “technical difficulties,” and it delays other people’s experiences. Overall, it’s not a magical experience.

She wasn’t disposing of them on a ride…..

Not allowed on property at all.

It’s sad she lost her bag, but probably a blessing. It’s well known Disney does NOT allow dead people or ashes to be dumped on their property. It’s a health hazard. You think that’s tragic, imagine your husband’s ashes being vacuumed up and unceremoniously dumped in the garbage and your rings pawned off. Honor your husband by going to WDW and having fun at the resorts. Don’t desecrate your own loved one by forcing Disney to vacuum him up. Many have tried. Don’t do it.

If you’re going to scatter ashes of dear aunt Chlamydia, don’t go telling everyone about it.

As a former airline employee (retired) never put ashes or even jewelry in your checked luggage. Passengers are allowed to carry-on ashes with docs from funeral home.
But in this case, Virgin Atlantic is responsible for the lost bag but not responsible for her trip costs. But ethically, I think Richard Branson can cough up some money, and as a good gesture, cover the cost of her return trip back to WDW to complete his wishes.

Sorry for your loss, but the airline stopped you from doing something that would have got you banned for life. Maybe you late husband was looking out for you when his ashes got lost.

She should have bought some underwear along with all the other stuff!

She said she was a light traveler. She only had the one bag. She showed up empty handed! Yes, she should have had a carry-on, but being it was just her, she probably thought one suitcase would be fine. She took the risk and paid the price.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this forbidden at Disney? I knew someone a few years back who got thrown out of the park for scattering ashes.

If they let one person do it it will snowball. They let you have BBQs in certain areas. People try to put ashes everywhere.

I was going to say the same thing! It’s Disney policy AND ILLEGAL by any standards

Um, I have NEVER seen BBQ pits anywhere at Disney. And to compare human remains to BBQ is stupid. It’s illegal to dump human remains ANYWHERE, not only at Disney but ANYWHERE without a permit. But again, I have never seen anyone bbq at Disney.

This is a very sad thing to happen, but I feel like it happened for a reason. As everyone here has said, you’re not allowed to bury or scatter remains on any Disney property. She could have gotten into a lot of trouble and I honestly think it was her husband intervening and stopping her from doing this. I have no doubt her luggage will be found eventually and she will be able to make other arrangements for his remains. Sending her lots of love as she continues on her journey of grieving. 💜

Why do you think people stating the obvious about the rules on Disney properties are “Karens”? Are you just trying to start something per usual?
