Maybe mind your own business, Karens.

Oh, and by any chance, are these the same Karens that want to bulldoze Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan’s Flight? I guarantee you they are.

its just against their rules, but have you tried walking in the rain in flip flops or even sandals. I have and I’d just as soon go barefoot

You need help if you think being barefoot is disgusting! When’s the last time you washed your shoes??? Every body in that video is barefoot in the rain getting a free foot bath! Oh and like flip flops hide so much of your feet…

Walking, running and being barefoot has now been proven to be better for us then wearing shoes. Researchers are now studying the connection between degenerative joint disease and wearing shoes. Time for Disney and the Karen’s of the country to look into the facts instead of their spew their bias around. Furthermore, anyone going barefoot is culpable for their own actions. Therefore, the safety claim is bogus.

Complainers must be the same people who wear their dirty shoes into houses.

    1. Shoe fits

You don’t remove your shoes indoors? Gross

    2. Miguel

Probably the same type that still wears masks driving alone in their vehicles.

I come for the comment section.

Oh just shut it Karen! Stay in your own darn lane! It’s been raining and when it rains it pours!! I wouldn’t want to get my lovely trainers wet either…. Disgusting? Your attitude is!

They also have other discriminatory “rules” that make very difficult for disabled individuals to visit the parks. Disney has very awful business practices.

    1. Steve

This is the kind of policy that only lasts until a company gets sued, either because they caused trouble for a protected class (disabled or religious) or because someone was injured slipping in footwear they were forced into.

I hope this is just a reporters opinion and this can be clarified. I always read reports on this site but am now disgusted with it. As a member of the barefoot community and that I can not wear shoes for medical reasons. I find this story slanted, prejudiced and highly offensive.

Science is starting to catch up in the are of shoes. They are finding that modern shoes are not good for our feet, ankles, knees, and posture. 90% of foot problems seen by podiatrists are caused by wearing shoes too much. Walking barefoot really is not any more danger than having bare hands. Free the feet and have stronger more functional feet that don’t hurt or smell “fragrant”.

      1. Evil shoes

So it’s only shoes and not the ever growing obesity epidemic?

        1. vas

Probably not *only* shoes but their contribution to foot and general biomechanics problems is very significant, especially when we talk about high heels, narrow shoes etc.

  9. Not Offended By Bare Feet

For crying out loud, let people who want to go barefoot go barefoot, Disney!

Disney should be grateful that people still want to visit its overpriced tourist traps, whether they are wearing shoes or not.

  10. HOLD ON THERE JESS COLOPY!!! You end with the following:

“For your safety and the safety of others, please keep your shoes on at all times…”

How does my going barefoot affect the safety of others??? Should everyone also wear gloves at all times, because we come in contact more often with things that others have touched with their hands, after touching their mouth and nose!

Wake up and start thinking things through before you start writing untruths!

  11. Surprisingly, most of the comments are spot-on here. For the foot-phobes, google for “barefoot” “health” and do some reading. There is nothing in the public ways of the parks that a routine barefooter would be concerned about as a hazard, or on the rides, or just about anywhere else [even on BTS tours and the like]. This notion that everyone has to have shoes on in such settings “for safety”, as rob points out, is total MYTH. Personally, I’m far safer without them, and that includes while hiking woods and climbing mountains.

Disney needs to LIGHTEN UP, and stop treating their “guests” like so many pieces of meat.

“Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience.”

What exactly is family-unfriendly about bare feet? It’s not like people are walking around naked.

I cannot believe the prejudice I’m hearing when it comes to barefoot walking. I understand a lot of us aren’t used to seeing it. That may make it seem weird, dangerous or unhygienic, but I encourage you to look into the topic before making a judgment call. Here are a few reasons why barefoot isn’t as bad as people have you believe:
1)There are numerous, peer-reviewed scientific research articles promoting the benefits of a barefoot lifestyle. For a lot of people with back problems, going barefoot can mean the difference between leading a normal life or being hooked on expensive, unhealthy painkillers or even being confined to your own home because you simply cannot go anywhere without being in constant pain.
2)Our feet have the natural advantage of providing us with a good grip, which makes going barefoot on slippery underground safer than when wearing flip-flops or sandals.
3)As for the hygienic concern, not only are feet washed more often than shoes (honestly, when was the last time anyone washed their shoes?), going barefoot makes your feet sweat less and therefore retain less dirt. I encourage you to compare your soles after a day of walking barefoot vs wearing sandals. Chances are your soles will be cleaner when you’ve gone barefoot exactly because your feet are not as sweaty or clammy.
    4) When it comes to safety concerns, when you walk around barefoot long enough, your soles become sturdier to the point you can walk on glass and come out unharmed so long as you don’t drag your feet. This is why our ancestors were able to run long distances across rocky terrain without fault.
5)Some companies will tell you not to go barefoot because you may ‘drop something on your toe’, but by that logic, shouldn’t sandals or any non-steel tip shoes be prohibited as well? So why single out those who go barefoot?
We’re supposed to be a country that is open-minded and welcoming to all walks of life and all lifestyles. So, if going barefoot is better for your back (and knees and hips), it’s safer on slippery soil, and it’s no dirtier than your feet in sandals or the bottom of your shoes, then who are we to judge people walking around like that? Leave them be. Or better yet, help support their choice instead of allowing companies to dictate what personal choices we are and are not allowed to make.
