Disney as a whole do go out of there way to cater to the handicapped and heighten there experience as well as the majority of guest visiting and yes sometimes we All are inconvenience and feel it not fair but that falls under selfishness, as for the maintenance truck they were there fixing, repairing & maintaining something that was inconveniencing other guest, and they thinking that there being inconvenienced . People both handicapped and non-handicapped just need to take a step back and look at the whole picture and respect everyone, and QUIT being so focused on ME ME ME issues as that is Not Equality for All .
It is not being selfish to expect that only the disabled use disabled spaces. Those with disabilities may not be able to use a regular space. They need the space to get their wheelchair or other mobility device out or they are unable to walk long distances. The maintenance workers can easily unload and park their vehicles elsewhere. How would you feel if you had a disability and you couldn’t get your wheelchair out?
I know that parking lot quite well and that truck could have parked anywhere else in that lot and been fine. There are by far not enough handicap accessible spaces in that lot. In my wheelchair, I have had to wheel across that lot and have almost been hit multiple times because people not only do not watch for people in the lot, but also drive way too fast through the lot. It’s not a “Me me me” issue on her side, it’s a safety issue.
Disney is great with disabled guests in some areas. We have had horrible experiences with the Mickey and Friends parking tram. There is only one section for wheelchairs and should only be for wheelchairs. However, cast members allow strollers to use the spot when wheelchairs are waiting. Strollers can be folded and the kids can’t ride in them on the tram anyway. A person in a wheelchair does not have that option. Many wheelchairs don’t fold up and it is very difficult and sometimes impossible for a person to safely get out of their wheelchair and ride the tram. There is at least one other large space on the tram that strollers can use. It is for strollers and not wheelchair accessible. When our child was little we always folded her stroller and did not take the only wheelchair space. Cast members need to understand that if wheelchairs/ those with disabilities are waiting for the one and only accessible space then strollers need to be directed to the other space or folded.
These cast members are young and impressionable. They see and hear about reports of passengers/customers becoming irate when an employee informs the passenger/customer of their infraction. Think airlines for example, there are some truly nasty people out there that think they deserve the best, entitled lot they are. This cast member wasn’t inconvenienced, her issue was of her concern for her safety. She is handicapped and someone who’s completely inconsiderate took up 4 spaces, 4, putting others safety in to question. If there had been no handicapped parking spots available because there were all taken by one car per spot, that’s on Disney. Employees in all customer service positions get crapped on by customers. In the case of their tram service, the handicapped spots are specifically reserved for handicapped individuals. If there are no handicapped individuals present on the tram, then being in that spot is fine, no harm no foul. But the moment a passenger in a wheelchair board’s the tram, that handicapped spot should be vacated for the sake of safety.
First, everyone needs to wait their turn, and not expect to go ahead of others who are also waiting. In general, Disney does not care about the disabled and considers them to be a necessary inconvenience that they are forced to accommodate. Disney does not go out of their way to help disabled people beyond the minimum ” appearance ” of caring and tries to find ways to force disabled people to submit to the standard Disney rules and requirement with no exception for any disability. When Disney builds or remodels an attraction, they make sure to incorporate any disability requirements into it, thereby avoiding the need to make special accommodations for the disabled because ” the attraction ( now ) complies with all legal requirements ” even if it is not practical for a disabled person to use.
As a retired ADA compliance inspector, that truck should have been towed or made to move, at the least ticketed.. Only under emergency situations may they park in ADA parking spaces. I don’t care if it’s a Disney truck or not. And unfortunitly people driving don’t care about people with disabilities.
Regardless if it’s a truth or a lie there is a video of the maintenance vehicle parked over 4 disabled spaces. That is unacceptable. As someone with a disabled family member I have to agree that Disney cast members seem to have little to no training when dealing with guests with disabilities. One cast member almost broke my family member’s wheelchair. He had to yell at him as the ride was ending and tell him to stop until I got off to help him.
Been a Disney passholder for over the last almost 20 years and I am handicapped . Over the years I’ve been impressed with Disney’s ability to accommodate handicapped. However since the pandemic the it’s hit or miss with handicap parking. I too I’m in a scooter and I’ve almost been hit almost by people driving too fast in the lots and not paying attention. I had to park a fair distance from the handicap parking as there is not enough designated spots for handicapped. Sad.
How do you know she didn’t talk to her boss? Thank God for brave people who have skin thick enough to put up with trolls while changing the world. People like this instigate the changes that benefit others.
The problem is with all of the people that abuse the handicap system. The many that don’t really need it or use it if the actual person that needs it is not with them. Blame the system and shame the people abusing it, not fully the company!

The photos, there were obviously other spaces available. How long was the truck there? A few minutes? Did the CM let her management team know before blogging what she seems to imply is an everyday occurrence? How exaggerated is this truth? This person is not wheelchair bound on a daily basis so exactly how many times has she been denied an accessible space?? Drivers are jerks sometimes and do tend to drive inconsiderately, but is that Disney’s fault? I think not.
It’s Disney’s fault if it is a Disney maintenance vehicle. It is Disney’s employee and vehicle. The employee driving should have been told that it wasn’t acceptable and disciplined accordingly if he/she ignored the rules. It is Disney’s responsibility to train their employees and deal with issues.
There should be a specific spit for her ..it us so simple .. on day such and such she parks at this spot on other days someone else parks there .. are people disrespectful mfs that only care about themselves ..
I’ve been run over plenty of handicap scooters and no apology has ever been marked she yelled at me for being in front of her. And no complaint was made and I’m not disabled they were so what should I have done

For the record if you fire someone for coming forward about things you are failing to do for your handicapped employees that would be wrongful termination and you’d be in violation of EEO laws. She probably did go to upper management however that doesn’t always work out for the employees that have been wronged as they say “it was a one time thing”. Having a safe environment for your employees and guests alike isn’t a difficult ask just saying.
Let’s start with this…. From day one she has had permission to park in special handicap spaces that lead directly into her work location. FROM DAY ONE. At no time was she asked to park in this area with the rest of the public. She FAILS To mention this. Not long ago, she herself almost RAN
over her fellow cast member in THIS SAME PARKING LOT. She fails to mention this as well. I mean, please do tell… give everyone the full story. We are listening.
Let’s also note that Yes, she did go to her management team about this issue. The posted this blog the VERY NEXT DAY. She gave no one a chance to even address the issue. Shame on you little lady. There is a way to go about things , and this is not it.
Maybe she will finally learn what so many of us former cast members learned. You are a screw in the machine you are not a human you mean nothing when you fall out there is more new screws they will shove in your place. You mean nothing, you are not a human, you are property.
My comment is about Disney World, not Disneyland, but since it is disability month (news to me; I’ve only been in a chair for 2 years) my pet peeve is the parking lots at all 4 theme parks SELLING the handicap spots as “preferred” parking. There are frequently no spots left near the entrance because Disney sold them to able bodied guests willing to pay the upcharge. If they want to do “preferred” parking, build a separate lot but STOP mixing it in with the wheelchair sections. It’s ridiculous. We drive instead of using Disney transportation to handle my chair and get “free” preferred parking with the hang tag – trust me I would rather WALK if I could.
Disney does not care about the disabled. They are seen as a problem to their bottom line. From their employees all the way to their guests. Disney believes they are above the unrhue civil rights act in California and the ADA. Just look at where a bulk of their lawsuits stem from.
