Disney CEO Bob Chapek is returning to where he went to school to speak in front of upcoming graduates.
If you have visited the Disney Parks and Resorts in the last few years or been a part of the Disney community in general you will surely know the name, Bob Chapek. Chapek serves as the company’s current CEO, taking over Bob Iger’s multi-decade tenure in early 2020, perhaps the worst time to take over one of the largest corporations in the world.
The exchange of power between Iger and Chapek was swift and came as a bit of a surprise, especially since Bob Chapek ended his position with the company earlier than expected. Since becoming CEO, Chapek has overseen many exciting projects at the Disney Parks, primarily at the Walt Disney World Resort with expansions such as the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride, the upcoming TRON coaster as well as the incredible Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort/hotel.
Now, the Walt Disney Company CEO is set to be honored as well as speak at an upcoming graduation ceremony as stated by the official press release from Indiana University:
Bob Chapek, IU alumnus and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, will speak during the Bloomington undergraduate ceremony May 7. Disney is the world’s premier entertainment company and home to recognizable and beloved brands such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN and National Geographic.
Chapek assumed the role of CEO on Feb. 25, 2020, and has led the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing recovery. Under his leadership, the company has continued to expand the scale and global reach of its streaming services, Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, and Hotstar; improved the overall guest experience in its parks and resorts, with new tools to customize and personalize visits; and continued to leverage innovative technologies to bring stories to life in immersive ways.
Before becoming Disney’s seventh CEO, Chapek’s roles included Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, head of Disney Consumer Products, president of distribution for The Walt Disney Studios, and President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. During his tenure, Disney Parks saw the largest investment and expansion in its 60-year history. He holds a degree in microbiology from IU Bloomington and received his MBA from Michigan State University.
The university will also award Chapek with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the undergraduate ceremony.
For almost four decades, only two CEOs served The Walt Disney Company, with Michael Eisner serving from 1984 to 2005 and Bob Iger from 2005 to 2020. Now with two years on the job under his belt, Bob Chapek has at least gotten Disney back on track in terms of profits and revenue after the disastrous last few years the company faced due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
