  1. Victor Nazarian

Both of my grandparents on my father’s side grew up as orphans because their moms and dads were killed in the Armenian Geocode. My father was a poor, dark skinned legal immigrant who worked hard to contribute to our wonderful American society. He first took us to Walt Disney World back in 1979.

Deniers and people who casually dismissive are prevalent. At one time in a discussion on intersectionality my wife at the time simply said, “They don’t matter.” when I brought up my immigrant relatives and my family history including the Armenian Genocide.

The Ottoman Empire was a large and often brutal regime. I don’t believe people should blame anyone but the individuals and the institutions and organizations that committed horrible acts. The acts themselves should be remembered and the survivors and their families should be acknowledged.

My name is Victor Nazarian and even though I descend from victims of the Armenian Genocide and I have been treated with noteworthy racial insensitivity I want nothing more than open, peaceful discussion and knowledge and that everyone can be OK. That’s why I still fly for the U.S. Coast Guard even after a plane crash nearly lead to my death. Every single life matters to me.

    1. Candy

Holy cow. I’m so sorry to hear this! This is something we as in Americans, never learned about in school. We learned, well while I was in school, a ton of wars and about different atrocities. How absolutely horrific! Your grandparents do matter! Every life matters. People need to learn about this, learn what lead to this so that it never repeats itself. And the truth needs to come out so those who’s family’s were victims of this, will have some sort of peace and closure. I’m glad you said your “wife at the time”, (she sounds like a real peach.) I’m sure your doing better without her…. People can be so horrible and mean…. Thank you for your service!

  2. Eddie

Can we just enjoy the series?? Smh

    1. jerry

      people complain about everything today
if you are offended just turn it off

  3. Steven

So because the Turkish government is still trying to cover up a 100+ year old event, it’s accusing the US of propaganda? What a joke.

  4. Tracy

Is it really necessary to make a series showing a person with mental illness in a negative light? There is enough stigma in our society against the mentally ill already. Surprised no one is mentioning this either.

    1. Arsonor

Have you watched the single released episode of it? Is he portrayed in a negative light?

    2. Ann M Hatzakis

The character in the comics had DID and was not portrayed in a negative light. Marvel Comics under Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were VERY progressive, and Moon Knight was created in their era.

      1. Joe L

Moon Knight came about after Stan had stepped back to focus on other aspects of the company, with Len Wein and Marv Wolfman – appropriately named – being the heads when MK appeared first in “Werewolf by Night”. The DID is also a relatively recent alteration in the last few decades, as originally the differing identities were aliases much as Batman uses “Matches” Malone.

That said, you are absolutely correct that it’s not making light of the disorder. If anything shifting Marc to having DID as opposed to fake identities gave him new direction and strength. It shows someone with a condition who can still function. Some writers have failed at this or made it goofy – Brian Michael Bendis, most notably – while others like Warren Ellis or Jeff LeMire showcase the struggle and how even the small victories in the mind are significant.

  5. Mike

Hey, it wasn’t a genocide, just a special military operation #SMH

  6. Sarelle Hayek

My grandfather and my great grandparents were all orphaned during the Armenian genocide. It’s absolutely despicable that a modern country like Turkey can deny their history like this. Of coarse they are hoping to erase all remnants of anything Armenian in Armenia’s ancient homeland.

    1. TexasSucks

You should see how Texas has tried erase what the US did to American Indians or Slaves. There is barely any mention of these events in history books for middle and high school kids. Many governments white wash the truth instead of learning from
And acknowledging the mistakes of the past.

      1. Just stop

I’m not sure what school you went to but mine all throughout elementary and high brought it up.
Here you are angry about Texas but what about Disney for making Pocahontas. The movie was based on her life but was so off. Aren’t you upset that it made Joseph Smith a good guy? It was historically in accurate and made it look like those men were there to make peace. But in reality they striped her of her home. She died young wanting to go back home but was denied. Pretty much died alone and forgotten. But Disney made her story a fairytale…. Maybe that could be why many don’t teach the truth? When I was in elementary we learned all about the truth and what happened to the Native Americans. But it seems now it’s been washed out….

        1. wren

          this is wal-mart brandwhataboutism.

    2. Candy

Gosh I’m so sorry! Like many, I had no idea this happened. The truth need to come out for many reasons, one being that it never repeats itself. History that can be covered up or forgotten tends to repeat itself and the second so that those families of victims can have peace and closure. Their lives did matter!

  7. Julius

There was mention of Armenian genocide? If there was I guess I missed it and it wasn’t some main plot point that’s for sure. I am gonna have to watch it again now to find out where this was..

    1. Stacey

It’s mentioned when Harrow talks about some of the horrible crimes in the world- the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, and the Cambodian genocide by the Khmer Rouge. Incidentally, the same conversation that mentions anime…

  8. Breed

The types of lowlife conspiracy nutjobs who deny this aren’t worth Marvel’s time and energy to care about one bit. Those types of people aren’t part of any demographic group that Disney cares about. They’re always poor, uneducated, and unintelligent.

  9. Marc

Why can’t we just STFU and enjoy a fictional show about fictional people, and realize not everything has to be made political? Lighten the F up!

  10. Kevin

The genocide happened under the party of “Union and PROGRESS”. Nuff said.

  11. AH

Russia denies that under Stalin the terror famine that killed around 10 million Ukrainians took place. Just like they have down played the holocaust in what was then the USSR by excluding the jews from it.

    1. Phil Davis

Do you know that the NY Times was also part of that campaign in Ukraine and reported the exact opposite of what was happening. They had a reporter in Ukraine and work with a Russia. Sine years back, early 2000s the nyts finally admitted it.

  12. Teddy Spiliopoulos

This is not a story.. the Turks denying the the famine plagued genocide of the Armenians is not something to acknowledge. The body count is 1 million that can’t be denied or ignored. The first episode is promising and looking forward to it.

  13. Ann M Hatzakis

The Greek people in the Diaspora acknowledge the Armenian Genocide because of what Turkey then did to their own citizens of Greek Heritage in the area of what is now called Izmir (Formerly Smyrna). They forced the Turks of Greek ancestry out of the homes that their families had been in for GENERATIONS. The Orthodox Patriarch whose seat is in Istanbul (Formerly Constantinople) is FORCED to have a Muslim “bodyguard” who can dictate to a man religiously on par with the Roman Catholic POPE what world leaders he can and cannot see and refuses to allow Orthodox Christian priests to wear CLERICAL COLLERS outside of the Phanar (The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople’s equivalent to Vatican City)

In 1974, Turkey OCCUPIED the northeastern 1/3 of the island of Cyprus, displacing Cypriot Greeks who TO THIS DAY cannot go home after almost 50 YEARS.

Turkey IS RESPONSIBLE for ongoing genocides… Until they come to terms with this, they have no standing to say that there is a “political agenda” in the line from Moon Knight

  14. TheVoices

People are really ignorant, they think that the Ottoman Empire is pure evil and Armenians are exiled for no reason.
Just use your brain and think for a moment.
Even before the First World War, Russia was arming Armenians and causing rebellions in the 18th century. When the Ottoman Empire entered the First World War against Russia, the Ottoman Armenians began to side with the Russian Armenians and the rebellions became more intense. They paid for their sins and now they want people to pity them and steal money from the Turkish Government.

    1. Jeremy

Ah yes, the rape and murder of between 800,000 and 1.2 million Armenians forced on death marches by paramilitary Turks is considered “punishment for a sin.” Yes there were rebellions but the Ottoman Empire tried to make it sound like it was widespread rebellion when it was only isolated incidents.

    2. Diyarbakir Progeny

Painting all Armenians with one brush is as bad as painting all Turks with one brush. You are a racist “TheVoices.” Steal money from the Turkish government? No. restitution for assets confiscated from their great-grandparents and grandparents after they were killed. Not all Armenians were revolutionaries. Despite poor treatment by the Ottoman overlords, my great-grandfather was on good terms with the Sublime Port of the Sultan up to the time he was murdered by top members of the CUP. His vast acreage in agricultural production, his copper and silver mines and his table-ware manufacturing factory were all confiscated. Racism is rampant in Turkey as Armenians are being murdered there in the present era. Nothing has changed in the Turkey of today as Kurds and Gulenists suffer similar confiscation of all their assets.

    3. Diyarbakir Progeny

The fate of the male members of my family is well documented by a Bedouin Ottoman Official. Their stomachs were cut open with a scimitar to kill them. The women and children of my family were exiled into the Syrian desert without food or water. You are brainwashed by the Turkish government narrative.

      1. TheVoices

The Bedouin formed the core of the army that Lawrence of Arabia assembled during the Arab Revolt of 1916-18 against the Ottoman Empire. Your sources are very reliable I must say, rebellions of the Armenians well documented by Bulgarian, Ottoman and Germany as well and documents says there is no genocide.

        1. Diyarbakir Progeny

@TheVoices. I keep speaking of individuals, as many Turkish officials treated Armenians fairly. You keep speaking of Armenian rebellions, painting all Armenians as members of Dashnaks and Hunchaks, fomenting revolution. I discussed that my great-grandfather remained on good terms with the Sultan’s Sublime Porte up to the day the CUP members murdered him, despite the poor treatment of Armenians. My grandfather’s cousin was a favorite official of the Sultan. I do not paint all Turks with one brush. By insisting on painting all Armenians with one brush you reveal your true sentiments. You are a racist.

          1. TheVoices

No one is going to give you money go beg from another country.

          2. Diyarbakir Progeny

You are a very nasty guy. Not money, but honoring property rights. The Armenian Diaspora has recovered from trauma and will continue to lobby.

          3. TheVoices

If you guys had honor you wouldn’t be allying with enemy countries. Go beg from your owner not from your ex-owner.

  15. JOHN B.

THE ONLY PROPAGANDA IS THE CONSTANT DENIALS THAT IT NEVER HAPPENED.

  16. Mando

I can’t stand people now a days everything has to be something stfu and enjoy the show how about that stop being such pansies I’m glad I’m raising my boys the old skool way to not be offended by every little damn thing

  17. FL-Dad

Can we admit that Disney has bent over for Communist China, who has, and continues to imprison and enslave Uighers in concentration camps. The enslaved Uighers are forced to make products for companies like DISNEY, Nike, and many other companies that we are well aware of.

If you want something to REALLY be offended by, be offended by Disney covering for Communist China’s open SLAVERY program.

  18. Lynn

Unfortunately it is all too common using Hollywood to brainwash or push lies. Unfortunately, if we don’t take a stand by boycotting shows like this, especially with blatant lies, it will continue and just get worse! You can’t erase history because you don’t like it.

  19. Anna

Kudos to Disney for speaking truth to power. Oscar Isaac would know the repercussions from the Turkish (and their vassal state, Azerbaijan) government and a whole stable of troll farms/bots. When seeing’The Promise” in D.C., Turkish sabateurs pulled fire alarms no less than four times, just to disrupt and try to force the audience to leave during the movie.

  20. Z

Correction to the article: it’s not illegal in Turkey to talk about “Armenian Genocide”. There are demonstrations on April 24 for it to be recognized as so. Most of the publications on genocide is by Turkish writers including a Nobel winner. However it is illegal in Armenia to claim it is not a genocide. Also Switzerland had a case (Perincek vs Switzerland) where the European Court of Human Rights judged Switzerland to be at fault for punishing a person for saying it’s not genocide.
