What’s your point? Do we really want a Tiana that looks like Whoopie Goldberg or a Fairy Godmother that looks like Joy Behar?

  2. Truth

It’s disgusting that they use lookism when it comes to these jobs. It is inherently inequitable and only creates social and economic burdens.

They’re playing a princess…of course they want someone attractive and thin. They aren’t going to hire someone 300 pounds with a lazy eye and missing teeth.

      1. I have to agree with the others who have commented. If you do not have that ” certain look” you will not get the job! I am sorry but, no one wants to see an unattractive princess! That’s the way it goes”. performing as a princess, you must look the part! Should she look like a ” mutt? It is the look that they are looking for!

Clearly you don’t understand casting. It is absolutely acceptable to cast people based on whether they look the part because looks matter in this industry. If you don’t look like Cinderella then the audience does not believe you are Cinderella. Don’t label it lookism…it’s theatre. The solution would be to create more characters with a variety of looks, not to resort to bad casting so we don’t leave out the average looking” . As far as inequity – that’s show business. Not every area of life will be equitable.

I agree Gary you want somebody that looks like the character. The only answers to create characters that are different. But even so if you’re hiring for that character you want somebody who looks like that character

🤣 Yes, lookism is the next thing that must be crushed! Vestiges of white patriarchy! 🤣

In fact I say as a part of reparations, all Disney cast members become people of color with some sort of disability and some kind of sexual kink.

In fact I have a Latinx transgendered, down syndrome, midget in the wheelchair who is dying to play Snow White. I think it’s about time we cast our misogyny and racism out the window and embrace the new world where we live in opposite land so the tyranny of a few can run everything like dictators, but with love and rainbows of course. 💅🌈

I dont think you understand. The article is about how you can lose a role literally just by being born a certain way.

    1. Puckles

Yeah. Just like if you are born stupid you can never become a Dr. Deal with it. That’s life. Should Disney have ugly princesses now?

      1. NB

So long as they are also doing background checks to weed out as many predators as possible I do not care if they make resembling the character part of the job of publicly portraying the character.

Cinderella look is what’s happening here. If they were looking for a Tiana princess. I don’t think I would want a white guy playing that role it would be disturbing , that’s all it is get over it, people just don’t know when stop being woke!

    1. Phil

It is just an acting job BTW, so who are you means nothing, how you present means everything.

  5. umopapisdn

The goal is obviously to make sure that little children will believe you are the character you’re pretending to be. This makes sense.

    1. Scott

It is just a matter of time before they have some dude playing the princess. If you look like a troll then to bad you can’t get a acting job as a princess.

    2. Joseph Cotler

Lose a job because you are born a certain way. Welcome to the real world deary. Let me be an NBA star at 3 ft 10 in. Now let me go home and cry in my Mapo. Woke yourself up smell the coffee.

  6. Mike Mahoney

This isn’t 100% true, I used to be a hiring manager at Disney and we were looking for a choice set of tatas too.

    1. Mike M, I really cannot believe that you worked for Disney. Anyone who uses the term ” Tatas” most likely serves coffee in a resort. Tatas, grow up! WDW goes out of it’s way to ” de-sexualize” their employees!

  7. Ron Obvious

    Welcome to show business, babe.

  8. JohnnyCrackCorn

This is how modeling works. These people are applying for model preformer positions. What kind of drama are you trying to stir up here? Next it’ll be “they only listen to voices when hiring singers.” Oh no, what are we to do?!

  9. JS

Just about as much grace, maturity and “woke” rants as I expected here. Smh.

  10. Tori

That’s the acting industry too. Look at Christina Hendricks from mad Men. She got hired because she has implants the size of basketballs. It’s a wonder she can walk upright with them

    1. Lauren Munroe

You just defined how casting goes. La-de-F*-da. Do you really want a short bearded man to be able to play SnowWhite? There’s a character, you want to play that character, then you should look like that character for the most part, accessories can be added but shouldn’t have to make up the majority (wig, gloves, gown, makeup). Same for movies, plays, tv shows, commercials, etc. If you go into modeling, you’ll flat out get told all the things that are wrong with you for whatever they are looking for. I do not recommend that for ya, but I still wish I was in it. Someone call the Wambulance. Sorry sug. That’s showbiz. AND you still got a princess roll and you’re complaining? :\ You literally made it to so many people’s dream job and have butthurt about it. Let’s do a career switch. Straight trade, no backsees.

      1. Lauren Munroe

Sorry Tori. I’m not sure how my comment became a reply to you… might be all the damn pop ups that have me hitting the screen like that old school game wak-a-mole!! 7 pop ups just writing this!! AND I can’t seem to fix it as just a comment (8th pop up right now!). Holy poop!!! (9th pop up before I hit “post comment” 0.o

Shocking they want a face character to look like the character they are playing.

  12. amanda

anyone that does castings looking for a certain type no matter what the type may be. watch the auditions on utube it’s more than that. do you want Cinderella look different every few hours? really

  13. I still cannot believe that guy said ” Tatas”! Like I said, WDW or any Disney park does not want a Father leering at their employees in a sexual way! That’s why you do not hear about any lawsuits from ” real employees”. Not people posing as employees. He was so rude and so very wrong!

  14. David

Y’all are running out of real topics to write about.
