Trying to pretend the virus away is an ill-fated approach. Yes, we’re all tired. Yes, we all want to enjoy “normalcy” again. But sadly, science doesn’t care about what we want or our feelings. Acting stupidly will only increase the risk that we’ll ALL be headed for yet another surge and lose more people to this horrible disease. I work overnights at the parks and don’t wear a mask (received 3 moderna shots already), yet even I’m not ignorant enough to believe something like that.
I have reservations in August if they don’t close down. I’m still going to wear a mask inside places even if the mandates have been dropped. But if cases severely increase, I have insurance and I will see if trip can be postponed. Just have to wait and see.
Except lockdowns don’t do anything except induce more harm than the virus itself, and we have vaccines that reduce the severity of this virus to that of a mild cold for most people. If with the progress we have now you’re still advocating for shut downs, or even masks, then you’re essentially arguing for eternal lockdowns and masks because since you’re so hellbent on obeying the science, the general consensus among the scientific community is that this virus is endemic and not going anywhere, so the fantasy of COVID-zero is something that you doomers need to relinquish; hiding behind new variants to prevent us from going back to normal is not reasonable at all.

I have 3 kids still ineligible and we are stuck isolated due to everyone’s COVID fatigue until they finally get around to a pediatric vaccine. And before anyone says kids are invincible to COVID the parents who have lost kids to COVID disagree. In addition, you can’t see from the outside who is higher risk.

I have to agree with you. There are many (such as myself) which cannot get the vaccine for various reasons. I got the first shot and had two severe allergic reactions, even so I tried to get the second dose and they called my Dr and Pulmonologist and then told me that I was not able to get another dose. So I am stuck in a limbo and will continue to wear a mask any time I leave the house. Masks will continue to be a thing for the next couple of years.
And I know people with kids who have had COVID and are now dealing with MIS-C. Who knows what long term effects they will have for the rest of their lives.
The bottom line is if you choose not to get vaccinated and/or choose not to use the treatment options that are both widely available, then you need to live with the consequences of your actions and not expect everyone to stop living their lives or to mask up. If you want to wear a mask, go for it, but let the rest live their lives.
We also need to get back to accepting that life has risks and accept that risk.
Of course the number of people that are vaccinated and/or have had COVID (interestingly the scientists have recently discovered that recovering from COVID seems to provide an even better and longer lasting immunity than the vaccines in most people) means that COVID really isn’t as much of an issue in the U.S. as it once was and given all of the facts, shutting down again would likely result in more cases, as people wouldn’t be building natural immunity gradually as they finally are now that masks are gone.
All of that to say I really don’t think the US parks (or anything in the US) will shut down again, especially in places like out here in California where it was originally 2 weeks shut down to build up our infrastructure and turned into 2 years, we were flat out lied to and we will not accept it again. The government will have to find more appropriate ways of handling things if we ever have another pandemic in the future than shutting things down.

Get outside and get lots of sunshine, exercise, get good sleep (without EMF- cell phones, WiFi, smart meters) eat high good sources of animal protein, some fruit and veggies. de-stress, meditate, practice kindness, and love.
