Although Expedition Everest may be closed at the moment, the memory of the coaster continues to live on through YouTube videos, photos, and TikTok creations which remind us how truly terrifying a meeting with the illustrious Yeti can truly be.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Guests can typically ride Expedition Everest, arguably the most thrilling attraction in the Park. Guests are able to go through the coaster, see the Yeti’s destruction of the track, and then suffer their fate through a backward adventure. Even with a broken animatronic, the Yeti effect is still pretty scary for riders. Sometimes, however, it seems that the ride itself may be all you need to enter the realm of pure fear.

Just Disney (@just_disney) took to TikTok to share a video of their aunt riding Expedition Everest. From the video, we can see that the Guest tricked their aunt into riding the coaster, and filmed her reaction after seeing the broken tracks and the beginning of their backward descent.

It seems that the aunt looked like she was going to be just fine, however, the pure terror in her face leaves us short of nothing comical! Our favorite part of the video is when we can see she braces her face for the backward portion and then screams “Oh no!”.

Expedition Everest is not the only Disney thrill ride that leaves Guests in a tizzy. Other attractions like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Tower of Terror, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Test Track, and others are among some of the most thrill rides Disney Guests can enjoy at Walt Disney World.

More on Expedition Everest’s Closure

If you were planning on hopping on Expedition Everest in mid-April as many other Guests may have expected, we may have some bad news for you. On January 4, 2022, the fan-favorite coaster closed for refurbishment, which has been said to last until mid-April, which is what is currently still noted as on the Disney World website, but it seems that on My Disney Experience, it says otherwise.

Although we do not have a reopening date for the coaster, we can see that it is being listed as closed through to the end of April, which means that at the moment, the earliest reopening date, according to the My Disney Experience app, would currently be in May. Of course, this timeline can shift at any moment, getting longer or shorter depending on the speed at which the work is being done, and what mechanical issues are being fixed.

Many Guests were hoping that since the attraction would be down for such a lengthy period that this meant Disney would fix the illustrious Yeti, which so many wish to see swinging at them once again while they speed through the forbidden mountain. But, Disney has noted that the Yeti is not the reason for the refurbishment, so it seems that “disco Yeti” will be sticking around for quite some time.

Luckily, not too much else is closed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, so Guests still have a ton to explore. One attraction that has been recently demolished, however, is Primeval Whirl, which was located in DinoLand U.S.A. It has not yet been said what will be coming in it’s place.

The Walt Disney World website describes Expedition Everest as:

Wander into a Tibetan village at the base of Mount Everest and board a train to the “top of the world.”

Beware: Some say a legendary snow monster lives deep in the mountain.

After a steep ascent, your train picks up speed and races into the darkness. Without warning, a broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Brace yourself as you plummet backward into total darkness. Inside the cavern, the mythical tale comes true as you see the shadow of a massive, growling beast!

Race to escape the cursed mountain—before the Yeti claims another expedition.

If you want to visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there is a ton to see and do! You can head over to Expedition Everest in Asia (when it is not under refurbishment) to visit the terrifying Yeti. Pandora will bring your Avatar dreams to life with Flight of Passage bringing Guests into the world of the Na’vi. DINOSAUR is still filled with giant dinos at every turn, and over at Kilimanjaro Safaris, you can take a ride on a real safari, and if you are lucky, a giraffe might even step in your way! A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King is now running, and the show is not one you should miss.
