Okay… If I may play Devil’s Advocate, Disney isn’t COMPLETELY at fault, here. Sure, the bill is horrible, but Disney, themselves, didn’t make it. It was the Floridian GOP politicians who made it. Get mad at them, not Disney. If your politicians are doing bad things, vote out your politicians so you can stop them from doing the bad things.

    1. T

The article is about Disney’s lack of response this is their fault. Look at what happened with North Carolina and their bathroom bill. Voters are not the only stakeholders.

    2. Look at the political campaign donations that Disney has made most of them have been to politicians that support this hateful bill.

Explain how and why this bill is Anti-Gay?

HB 241 — Parents’ Bill of Rights
The bill establishes the “Parents’ Bill of Rights.” The bill provides that the state, its political subdivisions, any other governmental entity, or other institution may not infringe upon the fundamental rights of a parent to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health of a minor child. If those entities infringe upon a parent’s fundamental right, they must demonstrate that the action is reasonable and necessary to achieve a compelling state interest, and the action must be narrowly tailored and not otherwise served by less restrictive means.

The bill enumerates a list of rights that a parent possesses in order to direct the education of his or her child and be informed about the child’s educational programs. The bill also requires a school district to promote parental involvement in the public school system by providing access to the child’s studies and instructional materials while recognizing a parent’s right to withdraw the child from objectionable portions of the school’s curriculum.

The bill further requires a parent’s permission before a health care practitioner may provide services, prescribe medicine to the child, or perform a medical procedure, unless otherwise provided by law. The bill provides a misdemeanor penalty for a health care practitioner or similar person who violates the health care provisions and subjects these persons to disciplinary actions.

The new Florida bill recognizes the well-being of children and the right of their parents to raise and teach them.
The fashionable gender ideology peddled by many schools is contrary to the best medical evidence.
Liberal activists are claiming that the parental rights bill would harm kids. Nonsense. It would protect young kids from what is, in effect, sexual grooming.

Thank You “R”. A very accurate and intelligent response. How EXACTLY is this such a horrible bill?!?! No one has yet been able to answer without giving vague or exaggerated circumstances. Where EXACTLY does only teaching AGE APPROPRIATE material hurt, or harm someone? Where EXACTLY does MY RIGHT TO PARENT MY CHILD harm the Community? This is about CHILDREN up to age 8 or 9….an age when they are vulnerable, and impressionable. They are not INTELLECTUALLY or EMOTIONALLY aware, ( nor care really, in my experience as a mother and care provider) about sexual identification. As long as you are a good person and their friend…they could care less.

      1. DawnP

Most parents of kids that age are not discussing sex of ANY kind yet! This has nothing to do with Disney who appreciates their gay employees and guests. But Disney can’t get involved with this issue politically because they could potentially offend their other guests, the majority of whom are NOT gay!

        1. No sex ed for kindergarten to 3rd grade! Outrageous.

        2. T

I think it has more to do with the likelihood of it failing without them saying anything. If it does pass expect Disney to respond.

      2. Can't make this up

Just last week, a teacher was attacked by a 5 year old who authorities have indicated charges will not be filed against because the child doesn’t understand the difference between right & wrong. Yet here we are and those same types of individuals want to claim a 4 – 5 year old knows their sexual preferences.

      3. Gene W.

This description is not what is in the bill, only what the bill perportedly aims to accomplish.

    2. Nora

      BINGO

    3. T

It’s an anti gay bill will the requires teachers to put children to their parents.

Imagine if there was a religious bill that requires teachers to inform on students have delusional beliefs in a god? Or that they couldn’t recognize your marriage because they can’t talk about religions ceremonies?

That’s the difference between having a separation between church and state and a don’t say religion bill. Nobody is teaching sex to children they are acknowledging the reality of gay families and childrens own emotional growth.

    4. ErinB

It’s anti-: gay, science, intelligence, reality, logic &, ironically, it’s anti-rights.
If they wanted to ensure parents could opt their child out of certain curriculum, that already existed.
Access to materials used already existed. It’s not as if you send your kid to school & have 0 knowledge of where or what they’re doing in a locked school with blacked out windows that have signs on the doors that say “No Parents Allowed Beyond The Drop-Off Area”. And when you try to help your kid with homework after dinner, you’re only able to read pre-approved unredacted parts of the assignment.

The parental consent requirements for healthcare treatment already existed.

These bills purposefully contain vague “parental right’s” language sandwiched in-between right’s that already existed in order to seem more reasonable & logical. Thus allowing parents & school officials the ability to defend any discriminatory actions without repercussions or to institute discriminatory policies & restrictions while using the extremely vague language as their excuse.

The only silver-lining to these types of bills is the numerous methods & loopholes that other parents who do not support the bill can utilize against parents requesting removal of lessons or materials.

For example, vague language like “A parent has the right to…” could backfire on parents objecting to certain material because they’re not the only parent of a child in that classroom or grade. These parental right’s would apply to any parent of a child in that class or grade. So if 3 Anti-gender lesson Karens decide to envoke right’s in the bill by demanding removal of specific material & that class has 20 students, the other 17 parents could envoke the right’s in the bill to keep the material.
Because one parent’s right’s do not supercede other parent’s right’s, bill or no bill. If the material in question is removed, the other 17 parents could claim that it violates their parental right’s.

If a parent demands removal of material because “the fashionable gender ideology peddled by many schools is contrary to the best medical evidence” & “I feel it is not age or developmentally appropriate” that parent’s rights could only then be violated if the objectionable material was actually fully objectional to the parent.

It’s difficult to claim material is objectional enough to be a violation because it discusses “gender indentity” or “sexual preference” not “based on current medical science” if you take your kid to church each Wednesday & to Sunday School where they are subjected to similar material that you do not find objectionable which also discusses gender identity, sexual preference etc. that is not based on current medical science. Thus negating any “reasonable” claims that similar material at school is not appropriate.

  3. J

    Don’t sexualize kids. Problem solved.

    1. Mario

      100%

  4. Born Gay

Who is sexualizing the situation? YOU two are. “R” and “J”. Being gay has NOTHING to do with pedophelia. You are born that way.

    1. Phil Wilson

Anyone forcing sex education on kids that young is serializing the situation.

      1. D

A kid in k through 3 should not be tought sex ed period.

    2. Yumi

You can’t be born gay cause you don’t even know what sex is

  5. R

@ Born gay, I posted the bill above, please explain which part is Anti-gay. Where does it discriminate against gay people.. I’m really interested to know.

    1. T

Two gay men have a child in my class how do I discuss their marriage when asked by children?

Congratulations you just figured out discrimination. Think it’s ok? Replace gay with your ethnicity or religion.

      1. Mario

Dont confuse tour relationship choices with racial discrimination. It’s not the same. Everyone chooses the types of relationship they want to be in. Nobody chooses what race they are born as.

        1. T

The teacher didnt choose it. The child didnt choose it. So tell me how would you explain their choice in regards to who are the childs caregivers? Seems to me the only people being punished by this law are the child and the likely straight teacher.

      2. R

Why on earth would you as a k through 6 teacher EVER find it necessary to speak with any child about their parents marriage?! Nursery rhymes, colors, counting, letters and very basic math are ALL children need in kindergarten. Why would a teacher need to express approval/disapproval with a students parents marriage or living arrangement? That is beyond psycho and is no one’s business, ever unless abuse is suspected.

        1. T

When a child shares that their parents are getting a divorce and they are sad it makes the other children sad. Its important to contextualize the situation to give children a sense of comfort rather than alienation.

Children are curious. They ask questions about the world they see. Children see other children and their parents at various school events.

You seem almost naive of how day to day operations of a school work.

  6. 1986GTV6

What exactly about the bill is controversial?

    1. T

It requires teachers to put children who confide that they are gay regardless childs choice or environment dangers.

      1. Eddie

Yeah, totally a lot of 8 year olds coming out of the closet.

    2. Todd4America

What we’ve learned from this bill and reading the comments: Demonrats are all really perverted child predators who don’t know right from wrong and have no valid argument that sounds sane

  7. Phil Wilson

Gay people: you can’t treat us any differently…..

Also gay people: we demand that you treat us differently…..

    1. Nora

      This

    2. T

How are you being demanded to treat gays differently? Other than pretend that their children don’t count.

      1. R

Who said the children of gay parents do not count? Could you read the bill above and point to that text? I’m sorry your insecure as a parent or gay person but that does not entitle you or anyone else to become delusional and spout off hypothetical as if it were fact. When real FACTS are slapping you in the face it’s time to stop the rhetoric and do what’s best for the majority of children while also including the very small # of children who are not in the majority.

        1. T

Im a teacher who is afraid for my safety. I mean what am I supposed to do put up a curtain for when those children are picked up? Those two women who tommy calls mom? I… I… have to leave the room. Come on if anyone is not living in reality its you as to how this law would even work.

I have a brother-in-law that his family knew was gay from 5 years old. My nephew is 6 and he has expressed that he may not be the right gender. The idea of this bill starts homophobia by not having every avenue, i.e. school (a place they spend a majority of time) help and affirm who they are. I agree that parents should be helping and having conversations about their child’s gender and sexuality, but majority of the time, they do not have the education or time to spend on going through things fully. That’s where supplemental education can help. This type of education shows everyone being equal. Stopping a bill like this can help save lives.

BTW, media has plenty of straight affirming content. Disney has been rife with the idea of the prince and princess coming together. Disney isn’t changing that. It’s just letting that one LGBT+ child know that they are not alone.

    1. Dennis

It’s not the school’s job to help them “identify” their gender or orientation. They’re at school for academics. That’s it.

      1. R

        @ Dennis, Exactly dead on.

    2. R

That was leftist gibberjabber. Read the bill and tell me where it says or backs up ANYTHING you just spouted off.

  9. Mario

Corps shouldn’t be involved in politics. I’m not sure what effect people expect Disneys opinion to have on the matter. There isn’t anything Disney can do about this legislation. It’s up to individuals to do something about it.

  10. Sandra

I don’t have any k to 3rd grade children. They are all grown! But I have two young grandchildren heading to kindergarten ina few years. I am doing what is best and leaving it up to their more than capable parents to decide what their want THEIR children to learn. Shame on Disney for getting involved. NONEY business!
