Wow, haunted Mansion? Really Disney? REALLY!? Are you that desperate? The movies isn’t even that old and honestly, that that bad.

    1. Jeff C

It is almost 20 years old (and pretty bad).

Way to steer the story away from a small business owner being put out by Disney and focus on the film instead. You should have kept talking about the guy losing his business. Big corporations are destroying small business, which affects local families.

So I guess there have never been any other filming in New Orleans over the last 37 years?
And how does this effect this business? They will get compensated and the location could eventually bring publicity to that area.
Also… the filming employs dozens of locals!

        2. Virginia

Exactly! This article was a shameless plug instead of telling us about the shop owner.

        3. J

What happened? I already heard that Disney is closing up disney shops like in malls.
Is this just one or those and the franchise owner is complaining?

  2. Chris

The companies that have to close during filming get compensated well for doing so, it seems this shop has been struggling for quite some time and is using this as an excuse since they would make at least as much from Disney having them close as their daily sales, quite likely substantially more.

After working on films for 20 years, I agree. Businesses are compensated.. And shutdowns tend to be short term, a few days tops. And when the filming moves down the block, the looky-lous follow and spend money at shops that were close to the magic. Plus, filming hasn’t even started yet. I think they wanted to retire and are simply scapegoating Disney because they weren’t offered the windfall they thought they could get.

Why did this turn into a plug for Disney+??? I want more info on the ACTUAL story, not what’s available on Plus and where I can sign up…honestly, this makes me hesitate to believe Disney.

  3. Jan

What a crock! I’m not buying it! Sounds like they want to gain before the movie (which isn’t needed as one was already made in 2003) is made sounds like a PR stunt too me! Get with the find new story lines Disney!

    1. Jeff

That’s movie will make a lot more people happy than a lame little store struggling to stay alive.

i am so confused…is this article about a store closing or a plug for a Disney moving that isn’t even written yet…?

how is it that disney is putting this business out? what kind of business is it?
and what does the NOLA film festival have to do with any of it ?

    1. Marcel

Not the NOLA film festival. The NOLA film commission, which is a government entity that entices studios and production companies to film in NOLA by way of tax breaks and other subsidies. These commissions also tend to help the production company with local issues, like getting streets shut down for filming, making deals on locations for filming, etc…

Thank you. I was reading this “article” and it went from, “had to close my shop” to “subscribe to Disney+ to check out other awesome films”. Poorly written.

    3. Lenny

Seems like a plug to me, especially where it includes the link to join Disney +

    4. rm

I’m wondering the same thing. How does this put the shop out of business?

  5. Pluto

Exactly and I will tell that the problem is the unfocused and fractured storyline of the article. But it’s possible an editor changed it to get more hype involved. Anyway Disney is a monster sized concern. Don’t get too close if you’re not along for the ride.

  6. Aaron

Where’s the rest of the article lol

  7. Nicole

This was horribly written. It doesn’t say WHY they’re closing due to Disney. Just that they are? What’s their business? What is NOLA? How do you expect us to take Disneys side (and support them by subscribing to Disney+! 😂) without an argument. This writer needs fired lmao

    1. I mean, it makes sense. This writer loves the haunted mansion. Look at her bio. What a joke

  8. disney sucks

The writer of this article just wanted attention. Disney hired her to create a buzz. Or, she is a Disney employee. Either way, it’s all bs and we all fell for it.

    1. Jaycee

Excellent point! Kelley Coffee is a Disney hack.

  9. Mason

Wait they are finally rebooting the Haunted Mansion film?

  10. Mr Context

Could you let us know why the store is closing to Disney? Rather just positing a pretty uninformative tiktok… Cause it sounds like they have decided to close, as Disney is in town for a few days (bringing more people to the area and making it a tourist spot) and they had to close for a couple of days.

  11. What was the name of the business? How did Disney’s film close down a store? This article should have spotlighted the business and owner more, better exterior shots, instead it was an article about the new movie and by the way someone was financially ruined.

  12. Realhawker

POTC made way too much money for the to rest with the 2000s Haunted Mansion film. They know the ride is hyper-popular and is worth any shot at the 1B+ the franchise has made for Disney.

  13. Sue

What’s the problem? Disney can’t come up with any new ideas that Disney keeps revamping the old stories or buying other studios?

  14. Mike Terry

This seems like a business owner blaming everyone but himself for his businesses failure. Businesses asked to close during a filming are usually well compensated. An area used in a popular film usually benefits from increased tourism if local businesses market and take advantage of it!

  15. James

In the video you see the street open, people walking down, cars driving by. And as others have said, businesses are compensated when they have to shut for filming. From what they have in the window, it’s more likely people just don’t want to buy the mishmash of crap that he stocks. Plus the article says they will start filming soon, so how would that have affected the business. This seems more like the store was struggling already and they just want someone to blame.

  16. Kat

The TikTok is basically the whole story. At this time, Disney hasn’t even set up production in New
Orleans or started filming. This store owner is just using the potential future filming schedule as an excuse for their own business failures. Once filming starts, any business impacted by street closures would be compensated nicely for lost business. Not to mention fans would later be in the area and would come to see places that were in the movie.

  17. Carys

It’s easy to blame Disney when you have failed as a business, still, it makes a change from blaming Amazon.

  18. KT

What’s with all the noisy fussing? Hardly anyone or anything is worth blaming for anyhow. So, there’s no need for anyone here to blow things way out of proportion. What are your expectations I like to know?

  19. Ken Brenner

Hi. I’ve read all the above comments and offer my skepticism about the movie filming will affect this business. And, he will be getting paid for any short-term closures. There’s definitely a lot more here than any movie-based business inconvenience.
It must have been a slow news day when this was written…

  20. sue

Did I miss the point somewhere on WHY the store has to close? I saw no mention of stores being bought out or closed due to upcoming filming and the filming was the only thing touched on and not even the exact locations. Very off course article.
