Unfortunately here is the truth of the matter, while beloved Gina was in 7 episodes of a TV that, by comparison, virtually no one saw. Here screen time was about 52 minutes. She said some things her bosses didn’t like and got fired.
Whoopi on the other hand has been number one on the call sheet, on a show for about 15 years, she’s seen five days a week, 200 days a year by MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people. She said some stupid, really stupid things, her bosses didn’t like what she said, but then they looked at the spreadsheet and saw that Whoopi brings in millions of dollars a year to her bosses, she got a time out. It’s not complicated.
Honestly, Whoopi’s comments made me loose all respect for her and I am sure that there are many who feel the same and she should be fired, the offense is far more egregious than what Gina posted (in fact we are starting to see the truth of what Gina posted in people not even being able to make a living if they don’t tow the line and get vaccinated, which means they can’t afford to live, but that is another story).
Whoopi should be fired and not just given a time out.
Exactly, the unvaxxed are the new holocaust Jews.
And for the lefty NPCs who cry “How dare you compare the deaths of 6 million Jews to the unvaxxed?!” the dehumanisation and persecution leading to a two tier society that the Jews experienced eventually led to the atrocities.
That is certainly not true. I am 100% in favor of vaccination and got my shots early. But without a vax card I would not have been able to keep my job, travel, or visit mother who was dying in the hospital. The vax is definitely being forced…. as mentioned I wish people would take it voluntarily but for those who don’t want it it’s being forced on them.
There are jobs that require your vaccination status even before covid, but that’s a business’s choice to force that, not a country or world view. I know several jobs that don’t require you to be vaccinated.
“virtually no one saw”? wow. I hate star wars and I even watched all of the mandalorian (and it changed my attitude about star wars a bit too)
on the other hand, even though I’ve seen “Whoopi” on screen most of my life, I’ve not once ever watched the view. I don’t even know anyone who has watched the view… so… I get it, ratings schmatings, and I guess me and everyone I know is “virtually no one”…
but what about Rosanne? she was fired from her own show, carrying her own name, which I don’t know the runtime on the original series but I’m sure it was much longer than the view at least with syndication.
Completely different situations when you look at what was said. Whoopi was discussing the topic of the book Maus being banned and misspoke about Jewish people. Rosanne called a black woman a monkey from planet of the apes. One was to be hurtful the other was poor wording
“Whoopi on the other hand has been number one on the call sheet, on a show for about 15 years, she’s seen five days a week, 200 days a year by MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people.”
So given that, wouldn’t you think that what Whoopi SAID was much more egregious based purely on public exposure that what Carano tweeted? I would think Whoopi deserves a much harsher punishment then what she got based on that alone.
Hopefully, ultimately, people will not watch the show when she comes back and hurt Disney/ABC where it matters most (in the pocketbook) forcing them to make changes.
It’s not about how egregious her comments are, it’s about money. In their eyes, firing Whoopi would have a negative effect on their bottom line, enough to keep her around despite what she said. Carano wasn’t as established and therefore didn’t have the same effect on them. It’s money.
No, I think people are missing the point. What did Whoopi do differently than Cara and Roseanne? She apologized and admitted she was wrong. They other two were given the same chance, but they didn’t do it.
Also, the difference I noticed between Rosanne and Whoopi is that Whoopi’s comment wasn’t meant to be hurtful. She was stating something that came across to others as wrong and she apologized for it while Rosanne called a black woman a monkey from planet of the apes.
Whoopi is a total racist. This is not the only time she said something way out of line. We need to get on ABC and Disney’s social media accounts and blast them for the double standard.
Apparently, there’s a whole world of folks desperately seeking offense. So, there’s no such thing as freedom of speech and people shouldn’t be allowed to have and/or express opinions. As a solution, maybe people shouldn’t talk anymore, every TV show, movie, personal appearance should be done in pantomime to avoid any problems.
Oh stop being so melodramatic. Just stop. Of course there is still freedom of speech and expression. What you fail to grasp is that every action/decision has a consequence.
Completely agree, Gina was treated unfairly. She did awesome & we love her! It’s double standards. Companies need to just run their business and stay out of politics. We shouldn’t know their political stance, same for news & athletes .
Carano was 100% on point. It is double standards. Whoopi Goldberg just got a slap on the wrist while Gina was practically crucified all to appease the worthless Twitter crowd. As the days go by Disney continues to prove their hypocrisy and their arrogance, even more so proving Caranos words to be true.
It really is too bad that Disney doesn’t understand how bad this looks.
Gina did not deserve to lose her job any more than James Gunn did. They made that right, how about going two for two?
100% agree. Too often the writing here seems to stray from Disney and toward the political fringe. And the comments section here makes me lose faith in humanity, too many angry people echoing their hate toward the “left”…on a Disney site.

Not even close. You can still do things the same as everyone else.

If yours going to fire Gina and Rosanne, need to fire Whoopi. Disney already looks bad and will only get worse.

Gina said what she said on her own time, Whoopi said it while at work.
