As usual Disney dining is overpriced and leaves you with an after taste resembling something less to be desired. Much like what THE WAVE has become (now renamed steakhouse 70), we have found it more and more difficult to find an appealing palette pleasing menu within the Disney bubble. Why does Disney keep doing this? Kona kafe used to be a great breakfast venue too but now is a complete joke! We still enjoy EPCOTS Italian dining and the Japanese and Chinese restaurants but that is about it.
It’s definitely expensive, and I was disappointed that the image of the Earth itself wasn’t more dynamic (if you don’t know what I mean, go look at the live feed from the ISS cameras. Obviously a fixed orbit station won’t be zipping around like the ISS but it’s still really obvious that the actual earth is a dynamic place).
I also have to agree that too much of the food was “just okay” especially for the price. I found this all over Disney during this trip and while I have only actually been to WDW one other time, the food was something of a highlight then. I am sure it is in part that I am now entirely plant based and partly that I have lived in some places that have experienced something of a food revolution themselves recently, but Disney didn’t hit any home runs, especially for the generally *ahem* exceptional prices. That’s not to say the food was -bad-, it just was consistently only a bit better than okay.
That said, I didn’t go to Disney, and especially not to space 220, expecting exceptional food at a great value. It’s hard to argue that the restaurant isn’t overpriced, and it’s actually pretty incongruous to me that they relied so heavily on meat (and especially on some stinky seafood) but it was still a great Disney experience and the “ride” at the entrance, the cute projections in “space”, the service, fun drinks, and that frankly brilliant carrot cake all brought it together to feel worth while even if the prices were more out of this world than most of the food. If $250 for a meal is something you would absolutely only do once a year or less, then skip this or try to do the bar. If it’s high but not astronomical (see what I did there) then this is probably a worth while experience IMO, especially if you have a space superfan in your family (like us).
Doesn’t look like they are making affordable hotels or restaurants anymore. Everything they make is catering to the rich. You can’t justify the costs of these things now if you are the average family.
Getting stuck in an undesirable table really makes an over priced meal leave a bad taste afterward. Many times I have been seated next to the kitchen or a service station and immediately asked to change. If they won’t accommodate, I leave which may be disappointing, but not as disappointing as spending a lot for a bad experience.
Many of Disney’s “experiences” are becoming one and done types. As many have pointed out, the food is just ok. Quality and quantity of the food has gone down, while pricing has gone up. Theming is barely noticeable. Seems many of the restaurants just want to get guests in and out as fast as possible so the next person can open their wallet. Nothing to write home about anymore.

Of course it’s overpriced. It’s Disney. Everything is overpriced. The magic has long since worn off.
