Although we are still in the Christmas season, it seems that Universal always has Halloween on their mind, and rightfully so.

At the moment, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are both celebrating the holidays, but it is no surprise to know that their shining season for many is Halloween. That being said, their Christmas season is amazing, and we cannot get enough of The Grinch when we visit Islands of Adventure, but there is something about Halloween Horror Nights that has us counting down the days until the spooks can return.

Both Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood participate in Halloween Horror Nights, which is an annual event full of terrifying and incredibly detailed haunted houses, scare zones, as well as delicious food and drinks. The event only recently concluded, but it seems Universal is already gearing up for next year, and some houses are already planned!

John Murdy (@john_murdy) Unis the creative director for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Hollywood, and he has been Tweeting out a notice that he is already working on next year’s event! His most recent Tweet states:

Delivered the first full treatment for HHN 2022 today. Been writing detailed outlines up to this point. Main difference between the two is the treatment also contains a full technical breakdown of elements scene by scene whereas the detailed outline is just the narrative…

He followed the Tweet up in his thread.

Now tomorrow it’s back to research for the next maze I have to tackle…wading through thousand and thousands and thousands of photographs. Actually it’s a lot more photographs than that sentence would suggest. #HorrorNeverSleeps

Seeing these Tweets are both exciting and also incredibly interesting. Exciting, because we know that there are some houses that are already planned for next year’s event, which of course can change over time. The interesting thing, however, is that we can see that the process of creating Halloween Horror Nights is one that takes a full year in order to come up with and create the same level of immersive terror that both theme parks have become known for.

This year at Universal Studios Orlando, we saw a very successful HHN with houses like Beetlejuice, The Haunting of Hill House, Bride of Frankenstein, Puppet Theater, Wicked Growth, and more charming and terrifying Guests alike. Although some Guests got a little rowdy at times, breaking into a chaotic fight, the event ran quite smoothly for the most part and was welcomed back with open arms after the pandemic caused last year’s Halloween Horror Nights to be canceled.

What houses do you hope to see at Halloween Horror Nights 2022?
