If you are a fan of adventure stories and Disney, you are surely a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean. Although the films are highly beloved by fans, there are some moments that we are happy were not included in the final take.
Pirates of the Caribbean first debuted in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. The film is based on the Disney Parks attractions, and because this was the first film to follow that concept, Disney was unsure of the film’s success. Robert De Niro even turned down the role of Jack Sparrow which eventually went to the illustrious and beloved Johnny Depp.
In the film, we meet Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Jack Davenport as Norrington, Mackenzie Crook as Ragetti, Lee Arenberg as Pintel, and more. Of course, we also see Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann, everyone’s favorite royal turned pirate. There was one scene that would have likely been much too exposing, and downright perverse to include in which Disney decided to thankfully cut that would have involved Elizabeth, Ragetti, and Pintel.
As noted by ScreenRant, the following scene ended up being chopped out of the first film.
After giving Elizabeth the dress that Barbossa wants her to wear to dinner, Pintel and Ragetti watch her get dressed through a peephole in her door. Elizabeth quickly catches what is going on and pokes at Ragetti’s glass eye peering in, causing it to roll away.
This was a wise scene to cut from The Curse of the Black Pearl, as there is nothing humorous or interesting about watching Pintel and Ragetti drooling and cackling as they watch Elizabeth getting dressed.
Considering the character of Elizabeth Swann is around 17 years old in the first film, the youthfulness of her character in contracts to the men would also seem quite uncomfortable for many. There have been many other scenes that have been cut from the five Pirates of the Caribbean films over the years, and while some may be missed, this one surely will not.
At the moment, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is reportedly being worked on without Johnny Depp, and another spinoff starring Margot Robbie is in the works. The allegations that Depp abused his former wife quickly became a claim that everyone wanted to know more about. Depp continues to state that Heard’s allegations are false, and he has not been proven guilty by any court of law. The $150 million suit will not be decided on until next spring where Hollywood figures such as Elon Musk and James Franco are set to testify.
We have since seen Depp’s career take a dip due to the court case and the rippling effects that Heard’s allegations have caused. After U.K. tabloid The Sun wrote an article defaming Depp while calling him abusive, Depp sued the publication. The actor lost the battle with the tabloid as well as his appeal. Shortly after, Depp would lose two major roles. The Fantastic Beasts franchise helmed by Warner Bros. dropped the actor and recast him with Madds Mikkelson, and then Disney booted him from his iconic role of Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
