Universal Orlando fans anxiously awaiting news on the new ‘Epic Universe’ Park and Resort have a little bit of a reason to celebrate.
It’s been more than two years since Universal Orlando officially announced that it would be building a new Park and Resort on more than 750 acres of land. Just as construction had gotten underway, though, things came to a screeching halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and fans were left to wonder how long they might wait.
Over this last year, signs of construction have begun to resume and we have heard that the project is planned to be completed in the next three years with an eye on opening in 2025. Without much news over the last few months, fans hoping for no more setbacks received some much-needed positivity.
Reporter Alicia Stella posted new permits recently filed by Universal Orlando pertaining to the Epic Universe. These permits are for work related to Project 905, which is believed to be the Wizarding World Land. However, it should be noted that only Super Nintendo World has been announced. Previous permits for this building “1620” said that it would be a “ride-combination building.”
First permits related to the actual Epic Universe park in awhile filed with Orange County! These are related to work for Project 905, which is thought to be the Wizarding World land.
They are for Building 1620, which was listed in prior permits as “a ride combination building.”

In the last week, Universal Orlando also filed permits for a “Transient Parking Garage” and “Hotel/Motel/Timeshare,” which are believed to be the new resort and parking garage that will be located at the back of the theme park.
When Epic Universe opens, it will be the largest Universal Park in the nation. Here’s a look at what Universal Orlando had to say with its original announcement:
Epic. It’s a word that gets tossed around a lot in today’s day and age, though not one we use loosely. When we label something as epic, we want that experience to live up to the promise that the word makes. Which is why today we are elated to announce the addition of our fourth theme park, Universal’s Epic Universe, an experience genuinely worthy of its bold moniker.
Universal’s Epic Universe will offer an entirely new level of experiences that will forever redefine theme park entertainment. Guests will venture beyond their wildest imagination, traveling into beloved stories and through vibrant lands on adventures where the journey is as astounding as the destination. The new location will feature a theme park, an entertainment center, hotels, shops, restaurants and more. Ultimately, this expansion will create more space and freedom to let loose and create lasting memories with the people you love.
There have been rumblings that these permits could pertain to a new Wizarding World section in the new theme park. At the moment, this is unconfirmed, however, we do know that Universal always planned to expand the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and this could be what they were referring to. We do know that Super Nintendo World will be one of the confirmed sections of the park, as well as DreamWorks holding a strong hand when it comes to IP use.
