Am I missing something here? Surely the low crowds are down to American kids being back at school and almost all international visitors being unable to travel to Florida?
Right? domestic visitors are always reduced at this time of year but in normal circumstances the international visitors keep the numbers up. That’s not happening at the moment due to travel restrictions.
What this tells me, based on the endless times I’ve been to Disney World, is that the main majority of the visitors who go to this park are from the south and Midwest. Those populations are now facing the hardest cases of COVID.
I would go with the kids 2x times a month crazy crowd lines. Now with the Genie+ forget…i will take my family to better places and less expensive. We canceled our passes and we are Florida residents.
Its terribly hot this time of year in Florida. Daily afternoon rain/thunder storms don’t help with the heat or humidity. Could be why attendance is down. Plus the Covid resurgence and wearing mask in heat doesn’t help.
My guess is because the 50th Anniversary celebration is less than 4 weeks away plus this time of year always sees a huge drop. Wait 4 weeks and it will be a different story as the parks are almost all full on October 1st.
I think it is a combination of all the negative press about the pandemic surge here in FL and our governor’s response but mostly, I wonder (and kind of hope) that it is people deciding to send a message to Disney that the value is gone, the magic is gone and frankly, it just isn’t as fun. As a pass holder for years, I chose not to renew this year. Disney has steadily chosen to take away the benefits offered to passholders. They have raised prices, added additional fees for parking at resorts and just generally acted with little concern for the customer. The resorts have gotten ridiculously expensive compared to off-property. It’s just an epic letdown these days.
One of the reasons is real simple. I tried to book at the Pop for a week at the end of September. No availability. Other dates combinations didn’t work either. We would have considered the French Quater or Riverside with a discount but they weren’t open. Then covid hit Florida. Nothing to do with governor, but seeing streams where people couldn’t follow the rules was enough for us. No offers for discounts after September 29. So when the covid rates go down we will go if we get a deal. We are fully vaccinated but I have no intentions of spending big bucks until the risk goes down. Even the airfares are dirt cheap right now. If Disney thinks people are going to flock there for Ratatouille and Space 220 they are going to get a wake up call. Oh, for me new fireworks are no big deal.
Just left and I cannot agree more with Jen….I wondered if anyone still working at Disney even understands Walt’s dream. Yes it was nice the parks lacked crowds, but they never bothered me when the magic was there. Even with less then 5min lines it still seemed like the life blood has been sucked out of there. This all started pre covid anyway with the letting go of/changing of staffing contracts. Now the general staff is so unknowledgeable and even uncomfortable in the positions they hold because they have no clue. It’s very sad…..we will see only time will tell but something better change or it will just be like any other carnival.
Jennifer, you took the words right out of mouth, we loved the convenience of the magical express luggage service and the free magic bands but then we started to notice the cuts of the perks and entertainment and the raising of costs and our trip in February was our last trip, the magic is gone, we did not renew our annual passes and will not return unless there is a complete reversal of how Disney decides to make the customers first and not how much they can charge and get away with.
It’s actually going down. Hospitals are starting to do elective surgeries again according to Advent health. They are predicting herd immunity in Florida soon. You can see in the charts things are improving. Personally I think folks have more important issues to tackle in their life that don’t involve going to an overpriced Disney park. Time to stop feeding the mouse. They don’t care about their guests and even less about their cast.
Not true, I live here and have family members who work at 2 hospitals. The ICU is at capacity. My friend’s knee replacement surgery was canceled because his hospital is full!
I guess that DeSantos is responsible for California, Hawaii, Tennessee and Georgia also.
Of course instead of being ignorant of viral epidemiology….try a vaccine… to, as you say, “Live”. Or you can believe 1 half of the CDC that says masks will prevent infection. Just don’t believe the other part of their website that then says they’re only 10-15% effective…don’t be a lemming following the pack off the cliff. ..if the government is so concerned then why is the department of immigration testing people and then shipping them even if positive to their choice of 9 states. Oh don’t say its a Fox News story the secretary of the department held a conference regarding why they’re doing…space reasons
I hope the crowds continue to stay low to send the message to Disney that they need to bring back the free fast passes and quit trying to charge money for things that used to be free. They also need to bring back extra magic hours instead of trying to make you stay in a more expensive hotel just to get extra time in the Parks at night. Disney has always been the superior to universal but if Disney keeps raising prices and changing all the things that people like universal is going to be number one.
Whats funny is Disney fans want to villify DeSantis and call him “DeathSantis” where hes giving freedom to Disney to conduct business but dont villify a governor like Gavin Nuisance in California whos making it hard on business including Disneyland during the pandemic. Desantis is giving people freedom during the pandemic and those that hate masks and new rules have a problem with Desantis. All because he’s Republican.
Prices are too High and the magic is just not there. I wish (like a kids does) that Disney World would remember the “good old days” and remember the people that made Disney wonderful! It’s the people like me and you that come every year to get away from the stress of every day life to enjoy a few magical moments with thousands of other crazies together! Disney needs to remember the customers again!!! Start loving on your customers Disney!
You clearly do not understand how to read and interpret the data presented to you. Do not comment on what you do not know. Also, it clearly is a Fox News story being as you had to throw that in without a citing your valid source. It’s cool you do you.
Don’t be an idiot. DeSantis is the best governor. He has handled everything professionally and listened to the experts. He is protecting the constitutional freedoms and liberties of the people to choose. Disney could have been at full capacity since last September under DeSantis; it was their choice not to be. Can you say the same of Newson in California where theme parks are still fighting? Florida does not have a high rate, never did. The CDC and Dr. Fauci simply want you to be scared so you will do as you as told. Masks never worked and a vaccine is not a band aid cure all for everyone especially when proven therapies exist and work. Disney is part of the problem. Stop spending your money there.
Florida has repeated had the highest rate of infection in the country. It’s good for the governor as one of his big donors is the company making the treatment he keeps pushing. Open your eyes.
We love Disney we’re there in July. All the changes and the added money is driving people away. A vacation is supposed to enjoyable and relaxing. The new fast pass system is high priced and high maintenance. Disney was perfect the way it was why change what worked. And people stay away because of the situation in Florida with Covid. It’s very sad
People don’t care about covid going to disney..if so why was June and July packed. Most people that care at this point got a vaccine and those that don’t are dealing with masks.
The fact that everything is under construction, broke or something not being offered (ie. Character meet and greets). And the prices are still going up while they reduce your experience. Its started to get out there that Disney is falling apart
Disney got Greedy, so people won’t pay the cost they are slapping on.
You pay to get into parks then they slap on more money to ride the rides.
Then they added more to food, merchandise, hotel costs,
Disney got Greedy.
It worked with fasspasses, you paid to get into the parks but you didn’t have to pay for rides, photo passes, etc
Its just to much & people can’t afford their prices
Disney cutting their noses to spite their greed
Even overseas can’t afford to travel as its so expensive people will just holiday elsewhere
Fasspasses worked noone is going to pay $$ dollers to get into the parks for 14 days & have to pay on top to pay for rides $15 per day, per adult
I hate to tell you guys that commented on ” because of the Covid bs and DeSantis no mandates” you are very wrong, I’m in the restaurant industry and all restaurants in Orlando have been extremely busier than before Covid! Disney was packing them in as well before school started.. honestly my thoughts are Hurrucane IDA and tge destruction it’s left behind and I’m thinking maybe people are boycotting Disney because they are implementing the mandatory vaccine on all who work there by October 18 2021.. Again,, another big Corp. that thinks they can over rule our 1st Constitution. I personally hope that’s the reason.. why other than raping people’s bank accounts for their ridiculous out of site prices!
Actually there is a good case for it being unconstitutional based on the government compelling people to have it…now private industry on the other hand is different
inwas there twonweeks ago and masks were needed i side and when u are close to people. everyone was cool with it and zero issues.
i had concerns about the state of florida having the most covid cases in america but we went anyway .
New York and California have the most covid cases and still lead the country in deaths. Florida ranks 28, had the least amount of deaths. DeSantis is the one following the science and the experts. Stop listening to the media.
It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to ask anyone to take a vaccine. The so called Covid vaccine is NOT a band aid fit all solution for everyone. NOT everyone can take the vaccine. Any corporation that imposes this needs to be boycotted and closed down. Remember this, it was Bob Iger that first introduced masks; masks are a symbol to silence the majority.
dont use rape, thats stupid and insensitive. its 86 degrees and covid in florida is rampant. people aren’t boycotting disney they are staying away from the state and the governor!
Well let’s deal with this first….RAPE. grow up and act like an adult and not deflect to stupid sensitivity BS. If you actually thought someone was discussing this In the sense you’re acting nuts about…then you need some professional help.
Now I love all you bearing up DeSantos..none of you have any data showing its him. Maybe its the, fact school is back in, prices increased, pass restrictions, a lot of stuff is still closed or not full running, bad press from disneys newest genie app or, hurricane that keep developing (calm down you climate change dolts, that’s a different issue)
What do you think DeSantos should do exactly at this point. If you don’t get a vaccine, bye your choice because they are avaliable. Is he’s supposed to force vaccinated people to protect people that made a choice to NOT take the vaccine. If that’s the case then I demand you capitulate to any choice in life I make that impacts you at all. Stop being diluted
Jees Debbie, I guess that your restaurant doesn’t make employees wash after bathroom breaks, wear gloves to handle food or require hairnets while cooking. I’m glad that it doesn’t infringe on your rights but I still wouldn’t want to eat there.
I am so glad that I am taking a 4 and 6 yr old that have no clue to what they are missing. They are there for the magic and the rides. Their 45 yr old dad hasn’t been back since he was 13, when there was only the MK and Epcot. He won’t miss the extras either, because they never had them.
my daughter and i evacuated Hurricane Ida and ended up at the parks on Tuesday/Wednesday. Definitely quiet…it was great! We rode everything in all 4 parks in 2 days, with time to spare. No rushing, just an easy, fun experience. I will consider visiting this same week again in the future. Almost like having the park all to yourself!
lol debbie the golden corral in your neighborhood may be full but I promise the universe where people care at all about vax mandates enough to boycott disneyworld is very, very small. It might be your whole world but it’s not reality. There’s absolutely no chance enough people care, would be going to disneyworld if not for the mandate, and are actively boycotting disneyworld because of the mandate to make any meaningful impact on the crowds. It is probably true that families with kids who can’t get vaccinated and grandparents who want to join the family vacation are being more cautious about visiting but honestly I’m not sure that’s making much difference either.
The parks are expensive as all get out now. My partner and I spent lockdown hoping to make it to disney when things lifted, we’re both vaxxed and not too concerned about the cases in florida as a result, but the costs are just astronomical. I can fly to wine country and spend a week visiting cellars and tasting rooms and still come out with plenty of change….Can’t imagine how expensive it is for families with kids nowadays!
There is no way they were at only 35% the end of July. Wait times were very long and the crowds were huge. If it wasn’t at least 75%, I’d be surprised. Going in 31 days so I’m really hoping the crowds stay smaller. With the 50th Anniversary kickoff on October 1, I’m seriously doubting they will be. But… I can hope!
Honestly, that’s the real reason I believe the crowds are smaller, people are waiting for the 50th to start that would probably have just gone now if the 50th wasn’t close, I go in 43 days and I agree I hope they stay small but I doubt it lol
I went earlier this year and the place is not magical at all. They were very insensitive with my wife having allergy barely being able to breathe and enforcing their demonic face mask policy. We will never in life go back and this puts a smile on my face to see it empty.
Sorry for your wife. And you are 100% correct. NOT everyone can wear the mask. My husband has polio and can’t wear one either. Besides no one should be wearing the mask in the first place as it does nothing to protect you but make you sicker. There is TB, pneumonia, strep, dirt among other things in the mask. The vaccine is not a cure all either. Everyone I know who took the vaccine are sick now.
I hope all you “facebook scientists” that are so knowledgeable about how effective masks are do not demand your Healthcare professionals wear them next time you or your loved ones are in our care. In fact, I think I’m going to start a petition so that we don’t have to wear them in the OR since they make breathing so difficult. I wouldn’t want to pass out while I have one of my patients on the table.
lol gabe I’m pretty sure the doctors and nurses aren’t wearing masks bought in bulk from amazon that actually say on the box “does not prevent the transmission of disease” like all the sheep are wearing, good luck with your petition!
JAYB,
Same thing happened to me. Walked a mile inside the park put on my do nothing mask. Walked in and out of the ropes to ride Avatar. Got to the top and hung mask off my ear to catch my breathe and the Gustavo Sophie said I had to wear my mask. I said I needed to catch my breathe and to give me a second to do so. She said I had to wear my mask. I said I did walking up here and if she was ok if I passed out. She said she had asthma and if she had to wear a mask I had to. I said I am a bit older then her and I have had Respiratory issues in my 55 years. She said it didn’t matter and she would call security. I said go ahead and call security. I had trouble catching my breath and for no one in the Disney area Avatar didn’t have any concerns for me. At least say sir do you need a medic or help but hell no. Let me pass out and tell me like the 3rd Reicht I didn’t matter you will wear your damn mask and do it now. Was disgusted at the lack of passion for me or my health. Can’t go to the bathroom without having to wear a do nothing mask! Oh wait you can go in a restaurant and wear a do nothing mask and sit down at a table and take it off. Makes no medical sense at all. I am suppose to pass out catching my breathe from Mask Gustavo group in Avatar is ridiculous. Won’t ever go back to Disney. Over priced, bad food, no concerns over medical issue, employees argue with there paying guests. Bad for business!
JWH
Again…I hope all you “facebook scientists” that are so knowledgeable about how effective masks are do not demand your Healthcare professionals wear them next time you or your loved ones are in our care. In fact, I think I’m going to start a petition so that we don’t have to wear them in the OR since they make breathing so difficult. I wouldn’t want to pass out while I have one of my patients on the table.
Maybe at least try to finish high-school before you decide to tackle scientific/medical subjects? Jesus! 🤦🏼
Right Gabriel! The amount of willful ignorance and blatant BS is astonishing. For a developed country that has information available on demand to not be able to discern credible information from mis/dis information is a travesty.
we were at disneyworld the week of august 22-25 and parks were uncrowded.
my wife walked onto teacups, peterpan, small world and more with zero wait. it was awesome. hollywood studios was not buy but it was 96 degrees and miserable. Never ever go in august!!!!
Was just there August 21st to September 1st. It was crazy busy! Wait times we’re an hour no matter where you were or what time of the day it was so im not sure when and where these pics were taken. I can show you my pics of the Magic Kingdom for the light show and fireworks if you would like. Cuz my pics look totally different.
People, like me, I think are finally fed up with the money grabs, such as Genie+, and cancelling their trips. I cancelled my trip in January at port Orleans and booked a trip at universal.
Considering that Universal tickets and parking cost the same as Disney World and their Express Pass costs more then Genie+, it seems like you are making a wise decision.
Drop ticket prices , and have deals on foods! Especially meal deals on guest who stay on your resorts high or low priced. You cannot recover the prices you lost during covid! Now you have the Varient! You better say; enter at your own risk.. All tickets half of 50 percent off! You losing. Take my advice and make enough to operate for now! Bits time to reduce staff. People are scared. Drop your prices!
🤣🤣🤣
Ridiculous. The prices are exactly where they need to be if everyone that says they won’t be going again stick to it. Honestly, they could go a bit higher. I’d rather have higher prices putting a dent in the crowds than 75% off tickets and parks filled to capacity every day of the year.
They do say that going to the parks is at your own risk. If you’re scared, don’t go.
Prices are too high, paying for Fast passes, Covid and the state having no control over Covid etc. It’s like no one cares about what happens as long as long as people can do whatever they want.
I refuse to support any business that requires the vaxx for their employees or requires masks, period. Masks do nothing for respiratory viruses, and I won’t play along to make make half-wits feel better. Get over it or stay home.
Sounds like a lot of poor people are upset that Disney is pricing them out of the Parks. Maybe you shouldn’t have had 3 plus kids to try and get your mediocre DNA into the world.
So much truth here. They seem to forget that the rest of the world doesn’t care about their spawns either. I’m glad to pay a higher price if it means all of these people actually stay away.
I used to love going to Disney World and would love to take some of my family with me. But, I really wondered how people could afford to go and spend a lot of money getting in plus a place to stay and plus getting food to eat! From someone that still wants to be able to enjoy this beautiful place!!
Long time Disney obsessed fan. Years ago, I finally broke down and bought an Annual Pass after so long of missing it and realizing what was missing in my life was Disney trips. I’m a Florida resident (born and raised, probably die in FL). But then the prices for APs started rising again. That sucked. Dropped to Silver Pass. Blackout dates on my BIRTHDAY (shout out to June Babies). APs prices kept going up…. getting harder to have them, harder to convince boyfriend that we needed them for my sanity. I didn’t even want covid to scare me away. It did scare away the boyfriend (not from me, from Disney.. just to clarify). Plus, Disney didn’t help, with the months missed with Covid freak out and they closed up the park. They said they would pause the payments since we didn’t get to go to a closed park, then BAM! They wanted all payments for months that we couldn’t even go!? Wtf?! Disney was the one place I felt less bad about spending whatever money I could save up. I don’t have to go to that doctor appointment, I’d rather go to Disney. Then the cost for AP just got sooooo damn high that they are way out of reach. Florida Resident means nothing!! Years of giving them anything extra I could meant nothing. Pretty sure Walt made Disney World for people to go to and enjoy and get away from their craptastic life and Affordable so they could come back and do it again!!! Shame. Shame on you. You created magic that we got to experience, then took it away. We couldn’t even afford peasant level tickets. Now SeaWorld gets our money. Remember my name, Disney. This is just my two cents, but I’ve got more change worth of options to share with you.
Shame. Dream killers. Joy murderers. Happiest place on earth for only the super wealthy. Where dreams come true, but the money hungry Disney magic suckers like to watch the light in your eyes fade away…. They are probably the same kids that had magnifying glasses on top of the ant hill.
Yes, I’m bitter.
I agree!! I used to take my family yearly. The last time i went was 2016. We still vacation but spend our money elsewhere. We will not go back unless prices go down. Disney is now only for the wealthy. The rest of us cant afford it.
The low crowds have nothing to do with prices that aren’t even in effect yet. Try school is back, overseas vacationers are still blocked out, waiting for the 50th celebrations to begin in 26 days. Resorts are booked up Oct-Nov. Prices haven’t increased enough yet.
We were there later in July and Magic Kingdom was frustratingly packed. No fast passes, lines were long, 2 hour wait on the popular rides. Pirates of the Caribbean completely broke down. They had to rescue us and all riders from the boats. Haunted Mansion also had issues. We stayed at Pop Century Resort. They failed us completely. Nothing was as I reserved. We felt the parks didn’t have enough staff to handle how many people they allowed in the parks.
Could it be because schools are back in and there was a hurricane passing through a few states over that caused people to stay away/change travel plans?
I basically grew up at the Magic Kingdom. My family all worked there. I was excited to take my husband there for his first time for our 25th anniversary. This was pre covid. I hadn’t been in years, and what a major disappointment. The magic is gone. The park was filthy. It’s no longer the happiest place on earth. I’m so sad kids today will never have the type of childhood memories I have.
Have been going since year. 2.Disney is getting to greedy.I have stayed on site and off.I am 71 and grew up on Disney tv programming.now a pensioner and can’t. Alford there new costs changing weekly. I will miss my trips to Disney and have to live with my memories.
I would go with the kids 2x times a month crazy crowd lines. Now with the Genie+ forget…i will take my family to better places and less expensive. We canceled our passes and we are Florida residents. Disney went WOKE and Walt is in heaven like WTF!!!
You are forgetting many many schools start BEFORE Labor Day now, so families don’t have the time for a Florida vacation end of August/early September anymore!!!
I’m here now too. So far..
Animal kingdom: went on every single ride, watched every show available, went on all the animal walks and the safari; whole park was completed in 4 hours. We left at lunch time! AND went on several rides more than once (Avatar Flight of Passage, Mt Everest, Rapids)
Epcot: on a Friday; same thing the longest line we waited in was Frozen in Norway. It was posted 45 min, but was only 30 once in line. Went again later, posted 25 min, but was only 15. The land was OPEN on Friday September 3rd. And worth it! (Science geek!)
I would say it has more to do with the cost. We live an hour away. We used to go a couple times a year for long weekends. The cost of on site hotels and tickets have skyrocketed. (Presumably Disney’s attempt to recoup some of last year’s losses.) Add to that people who are just trying to make it during this ongoing “pandemic” and you have the perfect storm.
Disney is out pricing themselves and meanwhile Universal and Sea World are loving it because they are bringing in more revenue but it’s ok Disney keep doing what you are doing and eventually go bankrupt!!
First, regardless of your political beliefs, Covid is one reason that people are staying away right now. Second, no international people. Third and I hope that this is the biggest one—Money! I really hope this is a sign that people are saying no to all the corporate stinginess. The constant cuts to every extra perk and inflation of prices have killed “the magic” It is gone. Disney has always been an expensive trip that could still be affordable or saved for. Now, it’s just not, not for regular hard working people. Before it was a trip that you went on if you couldn’t afford international travel—now it is making it look affordable. That not what Disney wanted and hopefully people will stop going.
I agree with you all above a Ratatouille ride and Space 220 will not get me there.
We brought our 24 year old daughter in law for her first time in June, & discovered it’s no longer the happiest place. 75% of the people we saw who work there were no longer friendly or helpful or even happy. It was the saddest place and a truly sad experience.
It is only a facade of what the Disney dream was. While I am fundamentally opposed to the moral compass of Iger, at least he had vision. Chapek is determined to drive it into oblivion. Board of Directors-WAKE UP before the creditors come calling!
COVID VARIANT!!! Look at the data! Look at the case counts and deaths in Florida! Also, going back to school during the summer is primarily a southern thing. The majority of the country observes Labor Day as the end of summer.
There are plenty of variables to cause lower crowd volumes. As much as I’d like to blame disney jacking up the cost of everything, I have a different theory. If I was looking to book at this time of year, I would delay my plans until October for the 50th. I think that’s what we are seeing right now. Crowd levels will likely skyrocket next month.
In my opinion, since the start of the pandemic sales have dropped. The doors were closed for many many many months. Now since they have re-opened. The prices have increased and pushing out the middle class. Which in my opinion made up 80% of the customers. Also, hurts that people what the dining plans back before returning. I was planning to return for 50 year anniversary but decided to change. Because of these reasons
I can only speak for my family. We’re from Michigan but we were down there 3 times a year. I use to do run Disney events every year. I was even a pass holder. But prices went up and magic went down. You use to pay more but get more to be in the bubble, now you just pay more. Plus you have to schedule every minute of your day. We’re not fans of Universal so my family is simply not going to Orlando anymore.
My family spent a week at Disney and returned home on August 22nd. ON August 23rd my daughter became sick, and tested positive on August 24th. She definitely got it at Disney. I wish we had canceled our trip.
Could it possibly have anything to do with the latest Covid surge and DeSantis not allowing any of the CDC guidelines to be used outside of the park? Perhaps visitors are afraid to come to Florida.
I am so glad to see every one else seeing what I saw 2 yrs ago. We cancelled our passes too. It was time to get out of the mouse trap. 36% of people that visit Disney have kids. They nickle and dime you to death, ignored the loyal passholders and gave priority everything to tourists. Then covid hit, tourist went away and all that remained was us ticked off locals and passholders. Floridians know there are so many more things to do in Florida for that kind of money. Disney is charging extra for the magic and we are not buying it.
It is because of the mask mandate which h is why Disney is not busy. People need to be given a choice about wearing masks. People cannot enjoy Disney with uncomfortable breathing restrictive masks in the Florida heat. Give people a choice about masks and maybe the attendance will increase.
This is kind of typical. I have literally been in the parks the day before and then after labor day, and the difference is always dramatic. Crowds magically disappear.
It’s what makes the first 2 weeks of September one of the best times to visit.
This is common this time of the year. We have a “slow” season this time of the year. It’s not just Disney, it’s anywhere in the Central Florida area. It’s common for the parks and hotels to offer “resident” discounts to get people into the parks and hotels.
Reasons – Here in FL we are back to school, it is hot, COVID and most importantly the high price – the continual increase in cost and the changes for fast pass etc. are no longer affordable (although I can afford I look at the cost and no longer feel I get back what I am paying for) – even with a Florid Resident pass – add in deteriorating rides, rides with issues or closed rides – the WDW theme parks are less appealing. I can go to Disney Springs enjoy and leave – which is what I did few weeks ago and so did a whole lot of others. Too bad WDW wake up and see your pricing out a lot of your visitors. Shame on you. Don’t think this was the vision plan.
I was in Hollywood Studios last Tuesday. I wouldn’t call it packed, but I agree it wasn’t deserted. I was able to walk onto Star Tours and TofT. I rode Smugglers Run 3 times. 15 minutes tops for everything else, though I did ride M&M R R later in the day, the line was longer earlier. And I was able to ride Rise of The Resistance too.
Probably waiting for the 50th events to start. There was still a lot of things not open there a month ago and it was disappointing. Maybe people are tired of the cuts? I don’t care for the new boss at all.
Did it ever occur to you that people CANNOT afford the outrageous cost of a trip to ” The happiest place on earth” ? A 1 day ticket for Disneyland age 10+ ranges from $104 to $154. Let’s say you have 3 kids @ 10+ years of age. That’s close to $500. Add in 2 adult admissions at $209 each for a total of $880 just to walk through the gate. There are constant expenses inside the park, food for 5, souvenirs for the kids. You’re looking at a whopping $1500 day trip. Not worth the price even if people could afford it.
We just got back from Disney World. We were there 8/30 to 9/4. We go at least once or twice a year. This year was crazy with the low wait time. The longest we waited was 10mins and that was at the seven dwarfs mine ride. It was pretty nice.
10 mins for 7 Dawrfs? That’s pretty good. I had to wait 25 minutes on 9/1. Big Thunder, Splash, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Buzz and Haunted were almost walk ons. And Peter Pan was 20+ min, of course.
So many people complaining that “the magic is gone” 😂😂😂 Disney World vacations are what you make of them. If it sucked for you, it’s probably your own fault. You’re probably the same people I see berating cast members at every turn because you think you’re the only person/family in the parks.
Raising the prices means a better experience for all who can afford to go.
I wonder if this is a combined reaction to Disney cancelling FastPass + Florida’s uncontrolled Covid state. Florida’s hospitals are heartbreakingly full.
Plus, the new “Buy a fastpass” system is such an ice bath. We’re DVC, and the news of it made even me abandon my hopeful post-Covid Disney plans.
Why spend all the money to go to Disney if you know you can’t afford to pay extra to be in any line that isn’t an hour long?
This is going to shut out a lot of middle class families. And it’s a huge turn off to lots of loyal Disney families.
I didn’t miss Fast Pass last week. The standby lines were not long and they moved FAST. I would prefer that there be no FastPass, free or for a fee. If they sell them, that will be a big turn off for many.
I was also at Animal Kingdom on Thursday, September 2 and I totally enjoyed it. We got onto Flight of Passage so fast it almost felt too easy. The wait times during our last visit in 2019 were 2+ hours. We rode twice this time with next to no wait time at all. Also rode Expedition Everest twice in very short order. We had planned to spend the entire day at the park (with dinner reservations there for 5 PM) but we got through all of the rides and attractions so quickly that we left around 2 PM and cancelled our dinner reservations.
I’m an annual pass holder, and yes, the value is not what is used to be. But if i can get into a park, ride what I want with minimal waits, and get out of the park in record time… I’ll take it.
the lack of people are probably the fact that Disney is not affordable anymore. I can’t believe how much it costs to get in and the fact that if you have a annual pass there are so many days you can’t go because of the blackout dates. I think Disney will see even less people with their new prices and rules on use for annual passes.
i agree with you, all is way too expensive. We always LOVED going to Disney, but can no longer afford it. Thank god we went when our kids were young, at least they got to enjoy the Disney magic quite a bit when young, we wouldn’t be able to afford it now.
The extra costs are pissing people off. $15-$25 a day to park at a resort Food prices going up substantially. Add $15 a day per person for Genie+. 10 day trip for family of 4 just add an additional $750 for basically nothing and then the higher cost of food. Oh any you have to spend every waking moment with your nose buried in your phone trying to buy food or scheduling a ride. Where the f did the magic go
Covid+Genie++Rising Prices+Staffing Issues+Corporate Greed = Poorer Experience and Customer Resentment, and a rapidly failing company. We visited 2/3 times per year from the UK. No more I’m afraid. Good Luck All.
PS – Red Tide on the coast also is a factor changing where our £ goes.
I was at WDW last week. The crowds were light and lines were very short. That said, I think your photos were cherry picked, because I remember more people than that. Sure, there were moments when you would see scenes as sparse as in those pictures, but I would say that those aren’t truly representative of what it was actually like, especially in the afternoons. Not saying it was crowded, because it certainly was not, but it wasn’t that deserted everywhere, all the time.
now maybe the board will take notice of greedy man chapek and his efforts to ruin an ICON in Walt Disney. To expensive, no perks for staying on property. Only most expensive property has after hours options. Nickel, dime, nickel, dime. Enough. Disney has to be loosing money with low crowds. Way to go greedy man.
I won’t go over the mask policy. It is so hot and humid, I’m not opposed to masks, but I am in regards to what that must be like in those weather conditions and they are requiring masks regardless of vax status. It is uncomfortable in that weather without something also covering your face. That, for me, is a non-starter…
It is too much work, planning a vacation to Walt Disney World now. Now I have to book air fare, hotel ressies, dining ressies, buy park hoppers, reserve a park???!, months before I even go. The part about reserving the park you want to go to for each day of your trip was the camel that broke the proverbial camel’s back. Not to mention, reduced hours and services. It is sad but “goodbye Disney”!
Comments for Disney World Looks Abandoned as Crowds Disappear Ahead of Labor Day
Vinny
I hope the crowds are like this when I go in December, LOL!!🤪
Holly
Me too!
Rob
Am I missing something here? Surely the low crowds are down to American kids being back at school and almost all international visitors being unable to travel to Florida?
JS
Uh, this was my thought too. The kids are back at school. Sure yes, covid too, but it’s likely mostly back to school.
Rob
Right? domestic visitors are always reduced at this time of year but in normal circumstances the international visitors keep the numbers up. That’s not happening at the moment due to travel restrictions.
yoyo
Greedy man chapek has ruined Walt magic. So sad.
Elle
What this tells me, based on the endless times I’ve been to Disney World, is that the main majority of the visitors who go to this park are from the south and Midwest. Those populations are now facing the hardest cases of COVID.
Rob
Not to mention the thousands of international visitors who can’t travel right now, they probably make up about half of the numbers this time year.
Johnny Tejada
I would go with the kids 2x times a month crazy crowd lines. Now with the Genie+ forget…i will take my family to better places and less expensive. We canceled our passes and we are Florida residents.
Linda
Its terribly hot this time of year in Florida. Daily afternoon rain/thunder storms don’t help with the heat or humidity. Could be why attendance is down. Plus the Covid resurgence and wearing mask in heat doesn’t help.
Patti
I agree, we went ma t times each year, but now it’s so priced out for a family of four! So sad.
JS
My guess is because the 50th Anniversary celebration is less than 4 weeks away plus this time of year always sees a huge drop. Wait 4 weeks and it will be a different story as the parks are almost all full on October 1st.
DianeMRL
Me too! We’re there the Saturday after Thanksgiving, although Sat. & Sun won’t be park days.
Any
The high prices and changes to Disney tradition are driving away many of us that spent $$$$ there and visited frequently.
Carol
I agree
CNeeky
Shhhh, don’t tell everyone or when I go in a couple weeks it will be crowded again. 😁
Dan
I visited Epcot today. Most wait times were 15-20 minutes with a couple hovering around 30-40 (Test Track & Frozen).
The land was open this morning and we got on with no wait about 30 minutes after park opening.
dw
the ongoing price increases for the park(s) and the add’l cost for some of the attractions isn’t helping the general tourist in their visits, either.
Jennifer D Bass
Deb
Bryan
Just left and I cannot agree more with Jen….I wondered if anyone still working at Disney even understands Walt’s dream. Yes it was nice the parks lacked crowds, but they never bothered me when the magic was there. Even with less then 5min lines it still seemed like the life blood has been sucked out of there. This all started pre covid anyway with the letting go of/changing of staffing contracts. Now the general staff is so unknowledgeable and even uncomfortable in the positions they hold because they have no clue. It’s very sad…..we will see only time will tell but something better change or it will just be like any other carnival.
Sonny
Jennifer, you took the words right out of mouth, we loved the convenience of the magical express luggage service and the free magic bands but then we started to notice the cuts of the perks and entertainment and the raising of costs and our trip in February was our last trip, the magic is gone, we did not renew our annual passes and will not return unless there is a complete reversal of how Disney decides to make the customers first and not how much they can charge and get away with.
Ellen
Also the ESCALATING NUMBER of covid cases in Florida could be a reason!!
Kij
It’s actually going down. Hospitals are starting to do elective surgeries again according to Advent health. They are predicting herd immunity in Florida soon. You can see in the charts things are improving. Personally I think folks have more important issues to tackle in their life that don’t involve going to an overpriced Disney park. Time to stop feeding the mouse. They don’t care about their guests and even less about their cast.
Sue
Stop listening to the mainstream media. Covid in Florida has been on the decline for 14 months now.
Sherry
Not true, I live here and have family members who work at 2 hospitals. The ICU is at capacity. My friend’s knee replacement surgery was canceled because his hospital is full!
Bernie
Agree
SupplyAndDemand
Except none of that is in effect yet.
Vera
They raised there prices ridiculous amounts, especially for pass holders with so many black out dates.
Patricia Duong
Maybe it’s also due to the fact they have raised their rates
Miller
I think it has a lot to do with COVID. Disney can thank DeSantos for the low crowds and the high infection rate. I want to go but I also want to live.
Steve
Joe
Only DeathSantis likes dead people.
Ed E Marks
I hope the crowds continue to stay low to send the message to Disney that they need to bring back the free fast passes and quit trying to charge money for things that used to be free. They also need to bring back extra magic hours instead of trying to make you stay in a more expensive hotel just to get extra time in the Parks at night. Disney has always been the superior to universal but if Disney keeps raising prices and changing all the things that people like universal is going to be number one.
Lik
It’s DeSantis and he’s set up 15 treatment sites. Did your state do that? SMH.
C B
Whats funny is Disney fans want to villify DeSantis and call him “DeathSantis” where hes giving freedom to Disney to conduct business but dont villify a governor like Gavin Nuisance in California whos making it hard on business including Disneyland during the pandemic. Desantis is giving people freedom during the pandemic and those that hate masks and new rules have a problem with Desantis. All because he’s Republican.
Suz
You all have the current POtuS to blame !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bill
Wow. So original. Do you need to go back to the store to stock up on green hair dye?
Ed
Don’t forget to mention that “cases” doesn’t translate into “deaths”. Survival rate is still over 99%…!
Steve
So true….they don’t like to hear that though its easier for them to try villifing the governor and fits their narrative easier
Tomasz
1 in 50 chance of death.
Long term nervous system issues.
Terrill Sheeks
Take it elsewhere.
Anna
Prices are too High and the magic is just not there. I wish (like a kids does) that Disney World would remember the “good old days” and remember the people that made Disney wonderful! It’s the people like me and you that come every year to get away from the stress of every day life to enjoy a few magical moments with thousands of other crazies together! Disney needs to remember the customers again!!! Start loving on your customers Disney!
Amanda
You clearly do not understand how to read and interpret the data presented to you. Do not comment on what you do not know. Also, it clearly is a Fox News story being as you had to throw that in without a citing your valid source. It’s cool you do you.
Sue
Chad
Florida has repeated had the highest rate of infection in the country. It’s good for the governor as one of his big donors is the company making the treatment he keeps pushing. Open your eyes.
kj
Maybe you should thank all of the immigrants that have been shipped there are infecting everyone – those with and without the shot!!!
Disney fan
We love Disney we’re there in July. All the changes and the added money is driving people away. A vacation is supposed to enjoyable and relaxing. The new fast pass system is high priced and high maintenance. Disney was perfect the way it was why change what worked. And people stay away because of the situation in Florida with Covid. It’s very sad
Steve
People don’t care about covid going to disney..if so why was June and July packed. Most people that care at this point got a vaccine and those that don’t are dealing with masks.
The fact that everything is under construction, broke or something not being offered (ie. Character meet and greets). And the prices are still going up while they reduce your experience. Its started to get out there that Disney is falling apart
Karen Taylor - Steward
Debbie GROSSOT
I hate to tell you guys that commented on ” because of the Covid bs and DeSantis no mandates” you are very wrong, I’m in the restaurant industry and all restaurants in Orlando have been extremely busier than before Covid! Disney was packing them in as well before school started.. honestly my thoughts are Hurrucane IDA and tge destruction it’s left behind and I’m thinking maybe people are boycotting Disney because they are implementing the mandatory vaccine on all who work there by October 18 2021.. Again,, another big Corp. that thinks they can over rule our 1st Constitution. I personally hope that’s the reason.. why other than raping people’s bank accounts for their ridiculous out of site prices!
frostysnowman
People aren’t boycotting because of the vaccine mandate, and there’s nothing about it that’s unconstitutional.
Steve
Actually there is a good case for it being unconstitutional based on the government compelling people to have it…now private industry on the other hand is different
Sue
Private industry is NOT above the law.
jon whaley
inwas there twonweeks ago and masks were needed i side and when u are close to people. everyone was cool with it and zero issues.
i had concerns about the state of florida having the most covid cases in america but we went anyway .
Sue
New York and California have the most covid cases and still lead the country in deaths. Florida ranks 28, had the least amount of deaths. DeSantis is the one following the science and the experts. Stop listening to the media.
Sue
It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to ask anyone to take a vaccine. The so called Covid vaccine is NOT a band aid fit all solution for everyone. NOT everyone can take the vaccine. Any corporation that imposes this needs to be boycotted and closed down. Remember this, it was Bob Iger that first introduced masks; masks are a symbol to silence the majority.
Dan
Where is that started in the constitution? I must have missed that line
Steve
So true…amen sister
jon whaley
dont use rape, thats stupid and insensitive. its 86 degrees and covid in florida is rampant. people aren’t boycotting disney they are staying away from the state and the governor!
Steve
Sue
THANK YOU!
Terrill
Jees Debbie, I guess that your restaurant doesn’t make employees wash after bathroom breaks, wear gloves to handle food or require hairnets while cooking. I’m glad that it doesn’t infringe on your rights but I still wouldn’t want to eat there.
Amanda
Good point Terrill. Well, at least to someone that is logical.
Sherry
I am so glad that I am taking a 4 and 6 yr old that have no clue to what they are missing. They are there for the magic and the rides. Their 45 yr old dad hasn’t been back since he was 13, when there was only the MK and Epcot. He won’t miss the extras either, because they never had them.
Wendi
my daughter and i evacuated Hurricane Ida and ended up at the parks on Tuesday/Wednesday. Definitely quiet…it was great! We rode everything in all 4 parks in 2 days, with time to spare. No rushing, just an easy, fun experience. I will consider visiting this same week again in the future. Almost like having the park all to yourself!
Adrian
lol debbie the golden corral in your neighborhood may be full but I promise the universe where people care at all about vax mandates enough to boycott disneyworld is very, very small.
Teresa
There is no way they were at only 35% the end of July. Wait times were very long and the crowds were huge. If it wasn’t at least 75%, I’d be surprised. Going in 31 days so I’m really hoping the crowds stay smaller. With the 50th Anniversary kickoff on October 1, I’m seriously doubting they will be. But… I can hope!
Paul
Honestly, that’s the real reason I believe the crowds are smaller, people are waiting for the 50th to start that would probably have just gone now if the 50th wasn’t close, I go in 43 days and I agree I hope they stay small but I doubt it lol
Patrick
Are the crowds expected to return in October with the 50th anniversary?
JAYB
I went earlier this year and the place is not magical at all. They were very insensitive with my wife having allergy barely being able to breathe and enforcing their demonic face mask policy. We will never in life go back and this puts a smile on my face to see it empty.
Sue
Sorry for your wife. And you are 100% correct. NOT everyone can wear the mask. My husband has polio and can’t wear one either. Besides no one should be wearing the mask in the first place as it does nothing to protect you but make you sicker. There is TB, pneumonia, strep, dirt among other things in the mask. The vaccine is not a cure all either. Everyone I know who took the vaccine are sick now.
Gabriel
I hope all you “facebook scientists” that are so knowledgeable about how effective masks are do not demand your Healthcare professionals wear them next time you or your loved ones are in our care. In fact, I think I’m going to start a petition so that we don’t have to wear them in the OR since they make breathing so difficult. I wouldn’t want to pass out while I have one of my patients on the table.
Erin
lol gabe I’m pretty sure the doctors and nurses aren’t wearing masks bought in bulk from amazon that actually say on the box “does not prevent the transmission of disease” like all the sheep are wearing, good luck with your petition!
William Scott Mousley
High price, and go Woke, go Broke!
Steve
Love that tag line
Angela
Hoping they are at least as low in the end of September!
Joe
Go woke and go broke. Keep erasing your history and pandering to special interest whiners and watch your crowds continue to decline.
Steve
Testify my brother😀
Jeff Hanshew
JAYB,
Same thing happened to me.
JWH
Sue
Disney’s interactions with guests have been on the decline for years. I’m handicapped and they way I was treated the last time was awful.
L
Disney’s rules are very clear. If you’re not going to follow them, then don’t go!
Sue
Totally agree.
Gabriel
Again…I hope all you “facebook scientists” that are so knowledgeable about how effective masks are do not demand your Healthcare professionals wear them next time you or your loved ones are in our care. In fact, I think I’m going to start a petition so that we don’t have to wear them in the OR since they make breathing so difficult. I wouldn’t want to pass out while I have one of my patients on the table.
Maybe at least try to finish high-school before you decide to tackle scientific/medical subjects? Jesus! 🤦🏼
Amanda
Right Gabriel! The amount of willful ignorance and blatant BS is astonishing. For a developed country that has information available on demand to not be able to discern credible information from mis/dis information is a travesty.
jon whaley
we were at disneyworld the week of august 22-25 and parks were uncrowded.
my wife walked onto teacups, peterpan, small world and more with zero wait. it was awesome. hollywood studios was not buy but it was 96 degrees and miserable. Never ever go in august!!!!
John
Was there a few weeks ago, same deal, little to no waiting. If you can stand the heat, it’s definitely worth visiting during August!
Kristin Briandi
Was just there August 21st to September 1st. It was crazy busy! Wait times we’re an hour no matter where you were or what time of the day it was so im not sure when and where these pics were taken. I can show you my pics of the Magic Kingdom for the light show and fireworks if you would like. Cuz my pics look totally different.
KJG
They will need to bring back the Magical Express and luggage handling in order for me to go again.
Kate
I agree
Adam
People, like me, I think are finally fed up with the money grabs, such as Genie+, and cancelling their trips. I cancelled my trip in January at port Orleans and booked a trip at universal.
Yoda
Considering that Universal tickets and parking cost the same as Disney World and their Express Pass costs more then Genie+, it seems like you are making a wise decision.
Karen Taylor - Steward
I have to agree disney got Greedy
Joco
School started. Most kids have gone back to school
Deb sherard
Drop ticket prices , and have deals on foods! Especially meal deals on guest who stay on your resorts high or low priced. You cannot recover the prices you lost during covid! Now you have the Varient! You better say; enter at your own risk.. All tickets half of 50 percent off! You losing. Take my advice and make enough to operate for now! Bits time to reduce staff. People are scared. Drop your prices!
SupplyAndDemand
🤣🤣🤣
Kate
Prices are too high, paying for Fast passes, Covid and the state having no control over Covid etc. It’s like no one cares about what happens as long as long as people can do whatever they want.
Nonya
I refuse to support any business that requires the vaxx for their employees or requires masks, period. Masks do nothing for respiratory viruses, and I won’t play along to make make half-wits feel better. Get over it or stay home.
Steve
Thats awesome….so true. These phobic nut jobs out there are annoying
TheTruth
Sounds like a lot of poor people are upset that Disney is pricing them out of the Parks. Maybe you shouldn’t have had 3 plus kids to try and get your mediocre DNA into the world.
Sue
You are truly insensitive which makes you apart of the problem.
Mom
And who do you think would work everywhere so you rich snobs could enjoy yourselves? Wow! You dimwits really do exist!
RobotsEverywhere
Robots. At Disney, college students, retirees, and overseas work programs.
Yep!
So much truth here. They seem to forget that the rest of the world doesn’t care about their spawns either. I’m glad to pay a higher price if it means all of these people actually stay away.
Sue
Totally agree. It’s time to close these places down.
Pat
I used to love going to Disney World and would love to take some of my family with me. But, I really wondered how people could afford to go and spend a lot of money getting in plus a place to stay and plus getting food to eat! From someone that still wants to be able to enjoy this beautiful place!!
Lauren Munroe
Yes, I’m bitter.
lisa ward
I agree!! I used to take my family yearly. The last time i went was 2016. We still vacation but spend our money elsewhere. We will not go back unless prices go down. Disney is now only for the wealthy. The rest of us cant afford it.
Natalie
Well if they didn’t charge so freaking much more people would come.. it’s a little crazy and outrageous!!
SupplyAndDemand
The low crowds have nothing to do with prices that aren’t even in effect yet. Try school is back, overseas vacationers are still blocked out, waiting for the 50th celebrations to begin in 26 days. Resorts are booked up Oct-Nov. Prices haven’t increased enough yet.
Bargain Holic
Emma and Ellie are there! Enjoy the shorter lines+
Novak
Well, they finally are giving the “enhanced customer experience” they were using to justify the increasing prices and reduced benefits.
Barb Peterson
We were there later in July and Magic Kingdom was frustratingly packed. No fast passes, lines were long, 2 hour wait on the popular rides. Pirates of the Caribbean completely broke down. They had to rescue us and all riders from the boats. Haunted Mansion also had issues. We stayed at Pop Century Resort. They failed us completely. Nothing was as I reserved. We felt the parks didn’t have enough staff to handle how many people they allowed in the parks.
SupplyAndDemand
Of course it was packed during the summer. Nothing new. Standby lines would’ve been even longer with FP+.
Jess
Could it be because schools are back in and there was a hurricane passing through a few states over that caused people to stay away/change travel plans?
JB
Florida residents seem incapable of using proper grammar. It is truly one of the most vile states in the USA. Maybe Alabama is worse. Dunno.
Jana
I basically grew up at the Magic Kingdom. My family all worked there. I was excited to take my husband there for his first time for our 25th anniversary. This was pre covid. I hadn’t been in years, and what a major disappointment. The magic is gone. The park was filthy. It’s no longer the happiest place on earth. I’m so sad kids today will never have the type of childhood memories I have.
Howard
Have been going since year. 2.Disney is getting to greedy.I have stayed on site and off.I am 71 and grew up on Disney tv programming.now a pensioner and can’t. Alford there new costs changing weekly. I will miss my trips to Disney and have to live with my memories.
Johnny Tejada
I would go with the kids 2x times a month crazy crowd lines. Now with the Genie+ forget…i will take my family to better places and less expensive. We canceled our passes and we are Florida residents. Disney went WOKE and Walt is in heaven like WTF!!!
Helen
You are forgetting many many schools start BEFORE Labor Day now, so families don’t have the time for a Florida vacation end of August/early September anymore!!!

I’m here now too. So far..
Animal kingdom: went on every single ride, watched every show available, went on all the animal walks and the safari; whole park was completed in 4 hours. We left at lunch time! AND went on several rides more than once (Avatar Flight of Passage, Mt Everest, Rapids)
Daniele
Epcot: on a Friday; same thing the longest line we waited in was Frozen in Norway. It was posted 45 min, but was only 30 once in line. Went again later, posted 25 min, but was only 15. The land was OPEN on Friday September 3rd. And worth it! (Science geek!)
Kaylee
I won’t be returning until hospital capacity isn’t jam packed.. I’d like to be taken care of if anything happens
Beth F.
We were in Animal Kingdom on Wednesday afternoon and were able to just walk on to Flights of Passage over and over again. It was remarkable!
Terry Mead
I would say it has more to do with the cost. We live an hour away. We used to go a couple times a year for long weekends. The cost of on site hotels and tickets have skyrocketed. (Presumably Disney’s attempt to recoup some of last year’s losses.) Add to that people who are just trying to make it during this ongoing “pandemic” and you have the perfect storm.
Heath
Disney is out pricing themselves and meanwhile Universal and Sea World are loving it because they are bringing in more revenue but it’s ok Disney keep doing what you are doing and eventually go bankrupt!!
lisa ward
I agree!
Todd
I agree.

TJ
We brought our 24 year old daughter in law for her first time in June, & discovered it’s no longer the happiest place. 75% of the people we saw who work there were no longer friendly or helpful or even happy. It was the saddest place and a truly sad experience.
Jerry Beaver
It is only a facade of what the Disney dream was. While I am fundamentally opposed to the moral compass of Iger, at least he had vision. Chapek is determined to drive it into oblivion. Board of Directors-WAKE UP before the creditors come calling!
May
It’s because of covid and 50th anniversary — people moved their trips to after October. In a month the place with be packed.
David
COVID VARIANT!!! Look at the data! Look at the case counts and deaths in Florida! Also, going back to school during the summer is primarily a southern thing. The majority of the country observes Labor Day as the end of summer.
Dan
There are plenty of variables to cause lower crowd volumes. As much as I’d like to blame disney jacking up the cost of everything, I have a different theory. If I was looking to book at this time of year, I would delay my plans until October for the 50th. I think that’s what we are seeing right now. Crowd levels will likely skyrocket next month.
Mike
In my opinion, since the start of the pandemic sales have dropped. The doors were closed for many many many months. Now since they have re-opened. The prices have increased and pushing out the middle class. Which in my opinion made up 80% of the customers. Also, hurts that people what the dining plans back before returning. I was planning to return for 50 year anniversary but decided to change. Because of these reasons
Tlaw
Extreme ticket pricing – (loss of magic + feeling special + rides that run) = no attendence.
If this was an algebra problem, solving for X = firing Chepak.
TB
I can only speak for my family. We’re from Michigan but we were down there 3 times a year. I use to do run Disney events every year. I was even a pass holder. But prices went up and magic went down. You use to pay more but get more to be in the bubble, now you just pay more. Plus you have to schedule every minute of your day. We’re not fans of Universal so my family is simply not going to Orlando anymore.
Ed
Too expensive $8500.00 For a family of 3 is crazy!! I’ll never go again. Theirs is better family vacations to take.
Becky
My family spent a week at Disney and returned home on August 22nd. ON August 23rd my daughter became sick, and tested positive on August 24th. She definitely got it at Disney. I wish we had canceled our trip.
Jennifer g
IT WAS MAXED OUT IN JUNE!!! ALL WAIT TIMES WERE ATLEAST 60 MINUTES…HOT AND RAINY…IT WAS PACKED.
Suzy R Garrison
Could it possibly have anything to do with the latest Covid surge and DeSantis not allowing any of the CDC guidelines to be used outside of the park? Perhaps visitors are afraid to come to Florida.
Lisa b
I am so glad to see every one else seeing what I saw 2 yrs ago. We cancelled our passes too. It was time to get out of the mouse trap. 36% of people that visit Disney have kids. They nickle and dime you to death, ignored the loyal passholders and gave priority everything to tourists. Then covid hit, tourist went away and all that remained was us ticked off locals and passholders. Floridians know there are so many more things to do in Florida for that kind of money. Disney is charging extra for the magic and we are not buying it.
Todd
It is because of the mask mandate which h is why Disney is not busy. People need to be given a choice about wearing masks. People cannot enjoy Disney with uncomfortable breathing restrictive masks in the Florida heat. Give people a choice about masks and maybe the attendance will increase.
Karen
Maybe everyone won’t come home with Covid if they can keep it this way.
Deborah
This is kind of typical. I have literally been in the parks the day before and then after labor day, and the difference is always dramatic. Crowds magically disappear.
It’s what makes the first 2 weeks of September one of the best times to visit.
Christa
This is common this time of the year. We have a “slow” season this time of the year. It’s not just Disney, it’s anywhere in the Central Florida area. It’s common for the parks and hotels to offer “resident” discounts to get people into the parks and hotels.
david fox
Hi I think the problem is that we can’t travel. We live in the UK and normally go most years but at ethe moment we are not allowed to go
Michelle
We’re here since yesterday and did Magic Kingdom today. It definitely was not empty.
MEL
Leslie
This was definitely NOT the case today. Hollywood studios was packed!!!
Ahuehuete
I was in Hollywood Studios last Tuesday. I wouldn’t call it packed, but I agree it wasn’t deserted. I was able to walk onto Star Tours and TofT. I rode Smugglers Run 3 times. 15 minutes tops for everything else, though I did ride M&M R R later in the day, the line was longer earlier. And I was able to ride Rise of The Resistance too.
Angela
No one can afford to go anymore!
James
Probably waiting for the 50th events to start. There was still a lot of things not open there a month ago and it was disappointing. Maybe people are tired of the cuts? I don’t care for the new boss at all.
Loweta
Did it ever occur to you that people CANNOT afford the outrageous cost of a trip to ” The happiest place on earth” ? A 1 day ticket for Disneyland age 10+ ranges from $104 to $154. Let’s say you have 3 kids @ 10+ years of age. That’s close to $500. Add in 2 adult admissions at $209 each for a total of $880 just to walk through the gate. There are constant expenses inside the park, food for 5, souvenirs for the kids. You’re looking at a whopping $1500 day trip. Not worth the price even if people could afford it.
Sean
Don’t complain.
Enjoy…
Angela
We just got back from Disney World. We were there 8/30 to 9/4. We go at least once or twice a year. This year was crazy with the low wait time. The longest we waited was 10mins and that was at the seven dwarfs mine ride. It was pretty nice.
Ahuehuete
10 mins for 7 Dawrfs? That’s pretty good. I had to wait 25 minutes on 9/1. Big Thunder, Splash, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Buzz and Haunted were almost walk ons. And Peter Pan was 20+ min, of course.
D
It’s probably due to the fact that Disney reinstated the mask mandate back in July.
SupplyAndDemand
😂😂😂 Nope
SupplyAndDemand
So many people complaining that “the magic is gone” 😂😂😂 Disney World vacations are what you make of them. If it sucked for you, it’s probably your own fault. You’re probably the same people I see berating cast members at every turn because you think you’re the only person/family in the parks.
Raising the prices means a better experience for all who can afford to go.
Amy
Ahuehuete
I didn’t miss Fast Pass last week. The standby lines were not long and they moved FAST. I would prefer that there be no FastPass, free or for a fee. If they sell them, that will be a big turn off for many.
MJ
Ahuehuete
I was also at AK on Sept 2. Arrived just after 8 AM and was done around 1 PM. Of the 4 parks, I would say AK was the lightest attended last week,
Claudette Grenier
the lack of people are probably the fact that Disney is not affordable anymore. I can’t believe how much it costs to get in and the fact that if you have a annual pass there are so many days you can’t go because of the blackout dates. I think Disney will see even less people with their new prices and rules on use for annual passes.
Claudette Grenier
i agree with you, all is way too expensive. We always LOVED going to Disney, but can no longer afford it. Thank god we went when our kids were young, at least they got to enjoy the Disney magic quite a bit when young, we wouldn’t be able to afford it now.
Will
The extra costs are pissing people off. Where the f did the magic go
Ant
Covid+Genie++Rising Prices+Staffing Issues+Corporate Greed = Poorer Experience and Customer Resentment, and a rapidly failing company. We visited 2/3 times per year from the UK. No more I’m afraid. Good Luck All.
PS – Red Tide on the coast also is a factor changing where our £ goes.
Ahuehuete
I was at WDW last week. The crowds were light and lines were very short. That said, I think your photos were cherry picked, because I remember more people than that. Sure, there were moments when you would see scenes as sparse as in those pictures, but I would say that those aren’t truly representative of what it was actually like, especially in the afternoons. Not saying it was crowded, because it certainly was not, but it wasn’t that deserted everywhere, all the time.
yoyo
now maybe the board will take notice of greedy man chapek and his efforts to ruin an ICON in Walt Disney. To expensive, no perks for staying on property. Only most expensive property has after hours options. Nickel, dime, nickel, dime. Enough. Disney has to be loosing money with low crowds. Way to go greedy man.
The PFlats
I won’t go over the mask policy. It is so hot and humid, I’m not opposed to masks, but I am in regards to what that must be like in those weather conditions and they are requiring masks regardless of vax status. It is uncomfortable in that weather without something also covering your face. That, for me, is a non-starter…
Cindy Fleet
It is too much work, planning a vacation to Walt Disney World now. Now I have to book air fare, hotel ressies, dining ressies, buy park hoppers, reserve a park???!, months before I even go. The part about reserving the park you want to go to for each day of your trip was the camel that broke the proverbial camel’s back. Not to mention, reduced hours and services. It is sad but “goodbye Disney”!
