News just broke that large events in Los Angeles County, California, will need to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test for all Guests. Per the report, theme parks in Los Angeles — i.e. Universal Studios Hollywood — are included in this mandate.

According to Los Angeles-based reporter Claudia Peschiutta, starting October 7, Los Angeles County will require workers and attendees at outdoor mega-events — those with over 10,000 attendees — to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Per the State of California, theme parks are categorized as large outdoor events, as tens of thousands of Guests visit theme parks every day.

Starting Oct 7, LA County will require proof of at least 1 vax dose for patrons & workers at indoor bars/breweries/wineries/nightclubs & strongly recommend it for indoor restos. Proof of at least 1 dose or neg test will be required for workers & attendees at outdoor events 10K+.

As for theme parks…”They will be included in this,” says  @lapublichealth Director Barbara Ferrer.

Peschuitta confirms that Los Angeles Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer states that theme parks are, in fact, included in this new requirement. We previously reported that theme parks like Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles County and Disneyland Resort in Orange County are categorized as outdoor mega-events by the California Department of Public Health. You can read more about what California describes as a mega-event here.

Sporting events events, such as Dodgers Games, and concerts will also be mandated to have the same requirements.

The order will also require proof of vaccination for all customers and employees in indoor portions of bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs and lounges in LA County.

“This modified health officer order aligns with the continued need to reduce risk of transmission and increase vaccination coverage,” Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors, per NBC Los Angeles. “This is a reasonable path forward that will position us to be better able to break the cycle of surges.”

At the time of this article’s publication, Universal Studios Hollywood has not yet issued a statement regarding the requirement for theme parks to ask Guests to provide proof of vaccination or negative test. As soon as we have an update from Universal, we will share it on our website. View the current health and safety message on the Universal Studios website here.

As a reminder, Universal Studios Hollywood is located in Los Angeles County, and therefore this new rule for outdoor mega-events (including theme parks) in LA County applies to Universal Studios. Orange County — where Disneyland is located — does not currently have this requirement in place. United States President Joe Biden is urging all theme parks and large event spaces across the country to require a proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test, though Disney has not announced that they will be requiring this at their theme parks at this time.
